This is a ballad for In the Heat of the Night. Actually based on the book version. Done for English class. Sorry, but the stanzas didn't work. There are four lines in each. Please R&R!

A/N: We had to do a ballad about In the Heat of the Night for my English class. Umm, warnings I guess for spoilers. Also, I don't own it, so don't sue me.
Sam Wood was on patrol
When he found the body
A shock like that he'd never had
Before discovering Mantoli.
He arrested Virgil Tibbs for murder
Simply 'cause he was black
But after bringing him in
They found that it was not him who attacked.
After this misunderstanding
It was discovered
That Virgil was a homicide detective
And the murderer he might uncover.
There was much protest,
But the mayor insisted
That Tibbs had to stay.
So unwillingly he was enlisted.
Much investigating was done,
People were interviewed,
Bodies were examined,
But only Virgil had a clue.
Even in the midst of sorrow,
True love can occur
When Mantoli's daughter
Believed Sam's conviction was erred.
The racist southerners were manipulated
To do what Mr. Tibbs pleased
Which was just great
When opportunity was seized.
The murderer it turned out,
Was the counterman, Ralph.
Who killed on accident, only to rob
But didn't care in the end, since he was from the south.
