Welcome to my Theatre

Character: Kankuro

Song: Kill the Rock by Mindless Self Indulgence

-- General P.O.V. --

While Kankuro’s status as a master puppeteer is admirable, it began far from aspiring to be as such.

It began from a selfish desire of a lonely child.

Kankuro was always used to his father not being there; was used to being left behind with his mother; was used to being picked on by his sister. Sure, he had only been one and a half when his mother had died of childbirth, but in that short span of time, he had become so attached to his mother that her death rendered his insides into millions of tiny fragments.

It was this that made him cling to his two year old sister and resent his new baby brother. He had been so attached to his mother by that point that he decided that his mommy’s spirit was always going to hover over him and protect him.

Of course, he wanted to make it so that his mommy would always love him and never abandon her watch, so he tried to make himself as cute as possible to catch her attention. Hence, he donned a cat hat which he made by himself thank-you-very-much from one of the old curtains in his sister’s room.

He knew that, as a younger brother, his mommy would be proud of him if he put up with his older sisters antics, such as drawing on his face with some of mommy’s lipstick at the time period that she had decided she wanted to become a brilliant makeup artist. After the first couple of attempts, they both decided that purple looked best, and yes, he made a rather cute kitty prince(ss).

He was at about the age of three when his little brother got a hold of one of his sister’s dolls. Being a good older brother, and also quite a bit afraid of his little brother’s sand control, he allowed himself to be dragged into playing with the dolls for said little brother’s amusement. It wasn’t his fault that puppets were so similar to dolls.

He even put up with the brutal teachings of the Kazekage, who was no more his father than his siblings were, and learned to be a cold hearted ninja of Sunagakure. He learned from watching the civilians that this was not the only emotion he could feel, just the only emotion he could show.

It’s true, Kankuro is a well accomplished, well adjusted ninja dedicated to his siblings and his village. But, truly, all he is now came from his being a lonely little boy wishing to impress and captivate his dead mommy.
