Bitter Sweet
---------------
He reluctantly got out of bed as the bell resonated throughout the place yet again, throwing the covers to the side and trudging down the stairs. He pulled the door handle and rubbed his eyes deftly, making sure that he was seeing things clearly, because the last thing he wanted to see was…
“Echizen, yo.”
…Fuji-senpai.
“…what are you doing here, Fuji-senpai?” inquired Echizen as he yawned loudly, then shot a glare at his upperclassman.
“Nice pajamas, Echizen,” replied the tensai of Seigaku, smiling as he cocked his head to the side.
“…”
“Saa, something wrong?”
“…answer the question, Fuji-senpai.”
“…here.” He handed his underclassman a nicely wrapped gift, about the size of an average novel read. Peering at it suspiciously, Echizen tore it open to find a box of chocolates inside, and he looked up at Fuji for an answer.
“It’s your belated Christmas gift that I forgot, Echizen,” he explained, his smile broadening. “Go on, try them. I made them myself.”
Ryoma shuddered to himself as he saw his senpai’s smile widening; he knew something was up. But then again, Fuji had made these chocolates himself, so it was a possibility that he could be poisoned by his homemade gift. Well then again, how would he know if his senpai was planning something behind his back? There were many possibilities to this, after all; he could be given something delicious to eat (although he didn’t eat chocolate much, anyways) or he could be food poisoned and brought to the hospital the next second. It was his decision, really, whether to eat it or not. His fate lay in his hands, you could say.
So was he going to open it, or not?
Shrugging his shoulders, he carefully lifted the cover of the chocolates to make sure that there wasn’t anything dangerous or explosive in there. He observed the small chocolate pieces that were molded into the holder given inside the box. Echizen took a piece and studied it a bit before popping it into his mouth, chewing and savoring it to the end.
Only to find that it wasn’t to his taste at all.
“Ugh, this chocolate tastes like…wasabi?!”
Fuji nodded his head in agreement, “That’s right, Echizen. I added wasabi paste inside the chocolate. It tasted good, so I thought you might like it as well.”
“…tastes…great…” he murmured, closing the package and throwing it to who-knows-where. “Thanks for the gift. See you at school tomorrow, Fuji-senpai.” He readied himself to close and slam the door in front of his senpai’s face when Fuji pulled Echizen towards his body and into a light but passionate kiss in the doorway. The first year found it actually, quite comfortable, for it complimented to the horrible taste of the homemade chocolates.
“…and that’s your birthday present, Ryoma-chan, that I could not resist to forget.”
