konekomh’s ramblings: Another extremely short one-shot – slightly longer than the last two instalments though. Hope you like it!!
This can be considered as a stand-alone or a sequel to Nocturne Op. 1 and 2.
Balamb Garden, Dormitories
It was in the middle of the night when Seifer found that he couldn’t really sleep. The various gossips he overheard during the day kept ringing in his ears like some broken CD player…
Hey, did you notice something’s different with the Commander lately? He seems more approachable?
How so?
Did you see that? He’s smiling for Hyne’s sake!!!
He’s a human being. Of course he can smile!
But don’t you think he smiles more often and more openly? See? Like that? Have you ever imagined he’d smiled at the cafeteria lady with that killer smile?
mmm… maybe you’re right. But how come?
I heard that he’s got a lover…
Say what???
Sh…Ian passed by his dorm last night. Guess what he heard when he walked by the Commander’s room?
No way… you must be kidding me…
With a frustrated growl Seifer turned around again in his bed. Sparing a quick glance at the alarm clock the blond decided he should pay a visit to his lifelong sparing partner.
The night was a bit cold as gentle winter breezes graced the blond’s handsome cheeks. But the gunblader didn’t mind at all as he strolled through the quiet corridor purposefully. He then let out a breath that he didn’t notice himself holding when he stood in front of the door of his destination and raised his hand intending to knock…
"Hn…" A soft moan slipped out from the room. Despite the sound being soft and muffled it felt as though it hit Seifer square in the face as his heart suddenly stopped. The blond had gone completely petrified when a cold chill suddenly ran down his spine and frozen him on spot when there was a soft rustle of clothes.
"I’m not in the mood to play, not tonight. Ok?" Seifer narrowed his eyes when he noted the gentle tone that Squall rarely used now being delivered at full force. But he sounds slurred…his brain must still be sleep muddled… the blond pacified himself internally.
"…"
"I’m too damned tired…"
"…"
"Don’t look at me like that… It doesn’t help if you are feeling hungry in the middle of the night."
"…"
"What? You’re hungry for me? You must be joking. The reason I let you stay over was not to let you devour me."
That made Seifer press his ear to the door.
"Hey, don’t lick there… It’s…"
(gasp)
"Stop it!"
"Hey! I said stop…" Squall sounded frantic when the rustle of clothes grew louder. Seifer frowned and tightened his fist as his body started to shake. Torn between running and staying the blond’s decision was taken out of his hands when there was a loud thud followed by painful scream.
"Ah!!!" Squall was panting loudly. "Damn it hurts!" The soft sob became the trigger that shook Seifer out of his stupor. Forgetting about Garden protocol the Head of the Disciplinary Committee quickly punched in the access code and barged into the room with Hyperion unsheathed.
Bracing himself for what he’d expected to witness Seifer stood frozen at the doorway.
Squall was lying on the floor panting hard. Pain tears were dropping from the corner of his beautiful eyes as the brunet struggled to pull himself together. Like a surveillance camera Seifer scanned the whole room and found no one else other than the boy that seemed to be suffering from immense pain. A black kitten was nuzzling the pale face as if helping the boy to wipe off the cold sweat that had covered his forehead.
Without thinking twice the blond immediately dropped his weapon and knelt beside the brunet. "Hey, Leonhart. You with me? What happened?"
"I fell. Got my shoulder dislocated." Despite being seasoned soldier it still hurt like hell when accidents like this happened. Squall hissed in pain as Seifer gently picked him up from the floor and put him onto the warm bed. The black cat immediately followed and sat in the boy’s lap with big puppy eyes.
"So the cat tickled you and made you fall off the bed?" One fine golden brow raised Seifer asked teasingly.
"What are you laughing at?" Squall scowled when he noticed a hint of a smile from the corner of Seifer’s lips. "It’s not funny at all I tell ya."
"Myself." ‘Hyne what was I thinking…’
"Hn?" Squall’s confusion was left unanswered when Seifer decided to cast Scan on him.
After nodding to himself the blond gunblader look straight into bluish grey, "Squall, do you trust me?"
Using his good hand Squall immediately grabbed a towel lying haphazardly near to his bed, rolled it up and then put it into his own mouth. Baby blue eyes showed complete trust as he directed his gaze towards Seifer.
"Ok, then brace yourself." Rolling up his sleeves Seifer moved over and got hold of the injured arm with another hand on the slightly swollen shoulder.
It then happened all at once.
"You’re brutal." The brunet complained in a hoarse voice. "Next time you should try being at the receiving end."
"Sorry." For once the blond looked sheepish as he patted the messy chocolate brown mob. With a chuckle the renowned troublemaker than added, "well at least your cat dealt out enough damage for making you scream."
Squall then smiled when his eyes landed on the various scratches on the man’s face.
"Did you hear it last night?"
"Hell yes! It went like this…"
"Man I’d never ever imagined it would be him of all people!!"
"But it was really hot don’t you think? I got a nosebleed towards the middle…"
"No wonder he’s got those little scars all over his face…"
"Hey! Here comes the Prince… Hyne what’s a sling to do with last night? Don’t tell me it was that rough…"
"Hush!"
The buzzing in the cafeteria immediately died as Squall entered with a frown. For once the Commander was dressed down in an open-collared dress shirt and loose jeans, but a sling had blocked everyone’s view of his well-defined muscles.
"So Dr. K refuses to let you go without some rest?" Seifer kicked a chair to offer a seat to the brunet who was approaching his table.
Slipping into the offered seat Squall nodded with a tired sigh. "Have to be out of commission for a whole month. So what’s with the cadets? They seem a bit restless today."
With a smirk that Squall had always found annoying Seifer only shrugged and said, "Hyne knows."
