Brendon sat up and ran his fingers through his thick hair. He grinned as he remembered what day it was. Saturday! Beautiful Saturday! No school, no worry, just a whole day of lazy, useless thoughts and actions.
His dark eyes flicked round the room, it was still early. He could easily just lay back into pillows and waste the day, but he was thirsty. He swung his feet around the bed, and slipped them into white slippers, before staggering to the door and walking down the stairs.
He pushed the door of the modern kitchen open and walked in. He opened the fridge and withdrew a glass bottle of milk. Flipped off the lid and drank deeply, before a voice made him jump and drop the bottle.
“And what do you think you’re up to Brendon Urie!”
Brendon cursed as the bottle smashed and glass went everywhere.
“Mum, you scared the living daylights out of me.” He said as he flicked glass from his hair.
“Sorry Hunni, but you know you should use a glass.” Brendon smiled at her and moved from the kitchen to find a mop. He was in the middle of cleaning up the mess, when his mum started to laugh.
“What,” he said irritably, as his mum continued to chuckle. She slipped her phone from her pocket and with a click took a picture of Brendon’s confused face. She turned the phone round to show him the picture. His thin face was as immaculate as every apart from the small mustache of milk on his top lip. He grinned and wiped his mouth. His mother smiled, she was so lucky to have a child like Brendon. He was clever, understanding and not to mention very good looking, but she couldn’t understand why he was always so alone. He didn’t have any friends. He had never had a girlfriend. He just kept himself to himself, and that saddened her. She patted his back and moved across the kitchen, to make breakfast.
“Call them down please dear,” she said to Brendon as he mopped the last piece of glass into the dustpan.
“C’mon you lazy lot, Breakfast!!” he yelled in his singsong voice. A lot of clattering could be heard as his brothers and sisters one by one marched down the stairs. They all crowded round the small table, as Mrs. Urie served eggs, bacon, sausages and toast.
“What shall we do today then people?” Mrs. Urie said as she sat down next to Brendon.
“Dunno…Whatever…beats me…” was her reply. Brendon’s youngest sister clapped her hands together.
“Brendon we could go down to the ice rink and you could teach me to skate. Like you promised,” she said looking at her eldest brother with wide eyes.
“Did I?” was Brendon’s reply.
“Yip”!
“Oh, Em…Ok then, whatever. She smiled at him.
“Thanks Brendon!”
“Its fine,” he replied even though he wanted nothing more than to crawl back into bed and sleep.
That afternoon, Brendon and his little sister made their way to the Ice rink. They had thick warm cloths on and skates in their arms. When they got there, Brendon paid the fair and sat down on the bench to get his boots on. He hadn’t been skating in years and the boots hurt his feet.
“Look Stay here sweaty,” he said “I’m going to borrow some boots.” He wandered over to the stall. A tall boy stood their, he had a cheerful face, and bright eyes.
“Hi,” Brendon said simply, “size 7.” The boy turned to find some skates. When he returned, he passed the boots to Brendon saying,
“Are you new here?”
“Sort of…”
“Cool. Do you need any help?”
“I might. My little sister over there is learning.”
“Awesome.” He said. He walked round the counter and shook Brendon’s hand. “I’m Spencer.”
“Brendon.” he replied.
“What’s your sister’s name?”
“Kay”
“Hiya, Kay. Are you OK?” Spencer said. She smiled.
“Yes thanks. “
“Good stuff. So we are going to teach you to skate today. It’s just like rollerblading. Can you rollerblade…?” Spencer said as he helped Kay onto the ice. Brendon followed, and skated behind her.
After about an hour she was skating on her own, with no help. Brendon thanked Spencer for his help, and started to skate round the ice rink, occasionally looking back at Kay.
But then someone skated passed him at such speed it was like a flash of light. He looked at the person who had passed him. He was tall and skinny. He has a slightly feminine face and dark eyes. He was simply the most elegant and beautiful boy Brendon had ever clapped eyes on. He watched him skate, and perform the most amazing tricks. He glided like an angel over the ice, his boots hardly even touching the clear white surface.
Brendon was fascinated, and then all of a sudden, the boy changed direction and sped like a bullet towards the middle of rink. Brendon followed to see what he was doing. The boy sped towards someone who was lying on the ground. It was Kay.
Brendon yelled and skated as fast as he could towards her. At the same time three others did the same. Spencer was one of them. The elegant boy picked her up took her over to the bench. Brendon smoothed her hair.
“Kay, are you all right?” She nodded but put her hand to her head. She had bumped it.
She blinked around at the five people surrounding her.
“Who…What?” she said confused. Spencer went to get a cold cloth for her head. She sat up.
“Brendon, my head hurts.”
“You had quite a fall,” the elegant boy said as he brushed his long dark hair from his eyes.
“What’s your name?” Kay said smiling a little.
“My name is Ryan.”
“You saved my life!” She said. Ryan laughed.
“I didn’t save your life. I just helped, but look at all the people who came to your rescue.”
“Yeah,” Kay said looking around. “And what’s your name?” She said.
“I’m Brent and this is Jon.” Brendon sat down next to her, and hugged her shoulders.
“Don’t scare me like that!”
“Sorry Brendon” Brendon smiled.
“Just lucky Ryan was here.”
“Brendon I’m hungry. Can we go get something to eat?” Kay said.
Brendon laughed. “You just hit your head really hard and you want to go for food?”
Ryan scanned her head with his lazar eyes. “She looks alright…should we get it checked out?”
“No I’m fine Ryan!” She said smiling, “Please Brendon.”
“Eh…Ok.”
“Can Ryan come?” She asked gazing up at her big brother, “And Brent, Spencer and Jon. Please Brendon.” Brendon looked uncomfortable.
“I don’t think they would want to come with us Kay.” He said, stroking her hair.
“Do you Ryan?” She said looking at him with the utmost respect.
“It’s up to you’re Brother, I’m afraid.” They all looked at Brendon.
“Well if you really want to. I mean if you’re not too busy.” Kay’s smile was so big it could have swallowed her ears. She hugged Brendon and then Ryan, but just smiled at Brent, Jon and Spencer. They took of their skates and said goodbye to Spencer who had to finish his shift. They then all walked across the road to a little café. Kay insisted that Ryan sat next to her. Brendon sat on the other side of Kay and Brent and Jon sat across from them.
Brendon rarely socialized with anyone, but he found that he really enjoyed talking to them. They were all around his age. They all played instruments and they were all very talented.
When Ryan went to order the food Kay lent towards Brendon and whispered,
“I’m going to marry Ryan, don’t you know?” Brendon laughed.
“Another 11 years maybe,” he said, as he pulled out his phone. They all gave each others phone numbers and promised to keep in touch, and at 3 o’clock Brendon’s Mum came to pick them up.
Mrs. Urie glanced at Brendon in her mirror watching his expression. “Who are those boys’ Brenny bear?”
“Don’t call me that Mom.”
“Sorry.”
“They are boys’ we met at the ice rink, and I’m going to marry Ryan Ross”
Mrs. Urie laughed. “What one was that?”
“The good looking one, with the dark hair and big dark eyes! He plays Guitar, like Brendon.” Kay said grinning at her brother.
“Yeah they are a good laugh.” Brendon said.
Mrs. Urie smiled, as the car rolled into the small drive.
