Yay, I finally got to update! Read away!!

Chapter Eight: Day Before Prom

“How was school?” Jack asked as Alex slammed his backpack onto the living room couch.

Alex sighed. “Um, just the same?”

“Okay. Well, what do you want for dinner?”

“I don’t care. A salad?”

“Oh. Since when did you want to eat healthy all of a sudden?” Jack smiled.

“Pizza’s healthy!” Alex defended.

“For boy brains.”

“Whatever. I’m gonna do some homework now,” Alex announced as he crept away into his room.

Jack prepared dinner with two bowls, veggies and cooked a small pizza.

As soon as Alex got up to his room, he opened his bag and took out his math notebook. He took out a pen and calculator and began writing his calculus homework.

His cell phone started ringing. He thought it was Sabina so he ignored it and continues scribbling on his work. He couldn’t take the ringing anymore. He shot up and answered it.

“Hello?”

Hi, hi!” the voice said.

“Sabina?” Alex asked.

Sabina?” the voice coldly repeated. “It’s Paige.”

“Paige! Oh, um, I’m sorry,” Alex panicked. His heart began to race.

Whatever. Anyways, just to give you the heads up, I cannot wait for the prom!”

“Me too. Um, not to be rude or anything, I need to get back to my homework,” Alex explained in an apologetic tone.

Oh, sure. No problem.”

“Thanks. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”

Sure. See you,” Paige said as she hung up. She sighed as she slammed her body onto her bed.

Alex sighed as well. He turned his phone off in case Sabina called again. He didn’t want anything to do with her. So he thought. Just as he was about to get back on his homework, Jack came into his room.

“Hey, time to eat.”

“Sure,” Alex replied as he followed Jack down the stairs.

“So have you got a head start on your homework yet?” Jack asked as she took a bite out of her salad.

“Nope. Not really.”

“Why not?” Jack asked as she stood up and walked over to the oven.

“Paige called.”

“What did she want?” Jack bent down and placed the pizza on the table.

“Well, she wanted—pizza!” Alex exclaimed.

“She wanted our pizza?” Jack sarcastically asked.

“No. She was just informing me about the prom.”

“Ah. Well I’m just gonna take a shower before I leave to work. Can you do the dishes for me?”

“Sure.”

Jack left the kitchen and headed up to her room.

Alex lost his appetite as he placed his bowl and plate into the sink. He started the tap water and began daydreaming about his prom. He quickly washed the dishes, and by the time he was finished, Jack came downstairs with a towel on her head.

“Yeah, sure. Okay,” Jack spoke through the phone. “Alex, it’s for you. It’s MI6.”

“Ugh. What do they want with me now?” Alex groaned.

“I don’t know. Just take the call,” Jack pleaded as she handed him the phone.

“Hello?”

Alex, it’s Mrs. Jones. I hear that tomorrow is your big day,” Mrs. Jones said in a sweet and sincere voice.

“Yeah, it is.”

“Great. I just wanted to wish you good luck, and that we’ll be hoping to have you back in the headquarters.”

“Yes, you will. Thank you. Goodbye.” Alex turned the phone off and he jumped on the couch, watching TV.

15 minutes later, Alex dozed off to sleep as Jack came down with a black long skirt, champagne colored blazer, black heels and her hair into a ponytail. She saw Alex and smiled.

“Alex? Alex!” Jack shook him.

“Huh?” Alex groaned as he wiped his drool off his mouth.

“I’m heading off to work. I won’t be home till midnight so don’t wait up,” Jack instructed.

“Okay.”

“Get some rest for tomorrow. Tomorrow’s your big day.”

“I know.” Alex smiled.

“Okay, see you tomorrow,” Jack said as she kissed Alex lightly on the cheek before leaving the door. Alex took a deep breath and headed up to his room. He dug into his closet and took out his suit. He ran his fingers through it and smiled. Tomorrow was his big day and it felt like forever.

Alex took his cell phone out and sent Sabina a text message.

Sabina, please stop calling me because I’m dating Paige. I can’t wait to see you soon.

Love always, Alex Rider.

He click send message and over thought his message.

Was that too mean? Alex thought. He nodded and ran back downstairs to watch more TV.
