Tony was on his way to his daughter's house. His eyes where bloodshot from all the worry. He had lost Luna and Katie. Now he had to tell Virginia.
After the girls went missing the first time, both Virginia and Wolf had kept a watchful eye on their children. Of course they where thankful that the girls had saved their father and where a family again,
but that never stoped the worry of Luna and Katie suddenly fanishing from their lives.
Tony recalled a time when Virginia and Katie where out shopping in the local market. Katie had been reading quietly behind her mother and Virginia lost the since of Katie's presence. Virginia spun around with her arms extended, and with such worry and fear in her eyes called out Katie's name.
"I'm right here Mommy." Katie soothed. "I havn't gone anywhere." Virginia,of course, had just shook it off and they continued shopping.
He also remembered Luna and Katie's first night home. How they had cringed when the palace doctors had cleaned their cuts and bruises. They had just had a feast to welcome them home (Thanks to Wolf)
and they had been so happy that day. How unfair for the day of such joy to end in pain!
But, the ever optimistic Luna and Katie, didn't let anything get them down. That's something Tony would ever admire them for.
Where they going through pain now? Wondered Tony. Are they suffering?
He would never be able to forgive himself if something happened to them on his watch. Virginia had even told him to keep an eye on them today! Not only did he have to tell Virginia and Wolf that their daughters where missing agian. In away, he would also be admitting his failure as a grandfather.
The carriage finally came to a stop. Tony got out of his seat walked up to the front door, and knocked.
Wolf answered.
Tony definitely didn't want to tell Wolf first. He had seen the way Wolf acts when he goes through emotional pain.
"Well hello there Tony," Wolf said, "what brings you here?"
Tony noticed Wolf had a very odd smile on his face. One Tony knew to be his excited smile which he only saw when Wolf had food on his plate.
"Did you bring Luna and Katie with you?" Wolf asked, his smile getting bigger. "We where just on our way to tell them something."
"I need to talk with Virginia." Tony stated blankly, He was already fearing of what was going to come next.
"Ok," Wolf said puzzled, "She's in the living room."
Wolf led Tony to the living room.
Virginia looked up with just as big a smile as Wolf's.
"Hi Dad." Virginia said. "Sit down. We have something to tell you."
All Tony could do was obey.
"Dad, we have some great news." Virginia said as she grabbed Wolf's hand.
"We're going to have another baby!"
Tony froze.
Why did he have to tell them today? No. He couldn't do it. He couldn't ruin his daughter's happiness.
Why now? Why him? Why them? Why did this happen? Why? Tony's mind was so full he didn't hear Virginia's question.
"What?" Tony asked.
"I said, are the girls with you? We want to tell them." Virginia repeated. "They'll be so excited!"
Tony just looked at the floor. He couldn't look at their eyes and happy smiles.
Virginia and Wolf's grins fell. Worry filled their faces.
"Where are Luna and Katie Tony?" Wolf asked.
Tony, still looking at the floor answered. "I don't know. They're missing agian. I'm so sorry Virginia"
Tony now looked up at his daughter, and he wished he hadn't.
Virginia's eyes misted over. They where the same eyes that must have looked at Katie that day at the market. The worry and fear ate at Tony's heart. He will never forget those eyes.
Tony glanced at Wolf.
Wolf's face was red with anguish and unshed tears. He embraced Virginia.
There was an awquird silence between the three. The silence was enough to make Tony feel as if he was the only living thing in the room, as if the news had killed them. And in a way, Tony knew, it had.
The silence was finally broken by Virginia's sobs.
"No. Not Luna and Katie. Not now." Wolf whispered through clenched teeth.
I did this. Tony thought. Not only did I hurt them, I made this unborn child, a happy memory to be held dear, a memory of sorrow.
