“My lord, you’re really bad at this.” Hikaru commented as a the rubber ball that he, his twin brother Kaoru, and Tamaki had been playing with rolled past Tamaki for what felt like the five hundredth time. “You’rew supposed to kick it!” He kicked his left leg out to demonstrate, then paused and glanced over his shoulder at his brother, “This is so boring, ne, Kaoru?” Kaoru nodded in response. “The whole host club’s been really boring lately, maybe we should just quit and move onto something more… Fun….”: Hikaru murmured seductively, pulling Kaoru into an embrace, winking inconspicuously at Kaoru’s surprised look to show he was only joking.

“KYAAHHH! Hikaru, Kaoru, don’t quit!” Some of the fan girls shrieked, forming a half-circle around the trio.

“You two devils! Don’t even joke about that! Daddy’s very angry with you!” Tamaki scolded.

“Who said I was joking? Maybe I’m serious!” Hikaru asked, releasing Kaoru from his grasp.

“Common sense. The two of you would never quit the host club.” Haruhi commented, walking up to them with the ball, she glanced at Hikaru, noticing an empty space beside him. Maybe Kaoru had to go to the bathroom… She thought, not saying anything about it.

“Haruhi-kun why’d you have to ruin all our fun?” Hikaru whined, and for a moment, Haruhi questioned if perhaps this was really no, Kaoru wouldn’t have even suggested the idea… “

“You monsters! Demons! How could you lead daddy on like that! MOMMY!” Tamaki sobbed, but when Kyouya walked up, he offered no comfort, as usual.

“Tamaki, it really is common sense. They both know by now that if they quit, they would be causing me to lose profit…” He glared at Hikaru, making note of Kaoru’s absence. The Low-Blood-Pressure-Evil-Lord himself.

Tamaki retreated to his corner of woe, “Just because you two are so smart doesn’t mean it’s common sense…” He mumbled.

“Hikaru, you really shouldn’t joke about that. You know how sensitive senpai is.” Haruhi said quietly.

“We were just kidding, right Kaoru?” Hikaru glanced over at the empty space where Kaoru should have been, “Kaoru? Kaoru!” He stumbled slightly, then ran off to the one and only place Hikaru could think of.

Hikaru didn’t know where Kaoru was? That’s strange… Maybe a first even… I wonder what happened? Haruhi shook these thoughts out of her head, remembering why she had come over in the first place, “Princesses, there are snacks by the tree over there, please help yourselves.” She announced. Naturally, Hunny’s sweet tooth had lead himself as well as he and Mori’s crowd to the treats. Hunny was eating cake like a professional. The rest of the fan girls soon joined him as Hikaru and Kaoru were soon forgotten.

“KAORU!” The younger twin jumped as he heard his name, and turned to see his brother panting in the doorway of the third music room.

“H-Hikaru… What’s wrong?” Kaoru slid off the windowsill on which he was perched and walked up to his brother, “Are you okay?”

“Don’t run off like that Kaoru… You scared me…” Hikaru for once, was looking up at his brother, seeing as he was bent over, breathing heavily.

“Sorry Hikaru… I just had a lot on my mind, that’s all.” He held his hand out and Hikaru took it in his own.

“Like what?” Hikaru pressed.

Something I don’t want you to worry about. Kaoru thought, but he simply said, “Not much, really. Don’t worry about it.” He lead Hikaru to the nearest loveseat, and the two sat down together.

“Kaoru, you tell me everything. Why is this different? You still trust me, don’t you?” Hikaru asked, looking rather hurt.

“Of course I do! It’s just… I really don’t want you to have to worry about it.” He smiled sadly, “Don’t think about it, Hikaru.”

Hikaru sighed, defeated, “Haruhi made some cake and cookies, you wanna get some before Hunny eats them all?”

“Nah, it’s almost over now anyway. Let’s just wait up here.”

“Okay.” Hikaru grinned, happy to be reunited with his twin. Even if it was only a few minutes, he hated Kaoru being out of his sight.

A few moments later, the rest of the host club walked through the double doors, talking about the day’s events. Haruhi blinked, “There you are! You ran off so suddenly, we were worried.” She approached the twins and sat down on the couch across from them.

“Are Hika-chan and Kao-chan okay?” Hunny asked from his perch on Mori’s shoulders.;

“Yeah, we’re fine.” They replied in unison.

With this, everyone settled into seats, “My lord, you missed a mushroom.” Hikaru commented, pointing to the blonde’s head and smirking. Tamaki tousled his hair until a small brown mushroom finally fell out.

“Thanks Kaoru.”

“Guess again.” Kaoru said in a bored expression, letting himself fall into Hikaru’s lap.

“Alright, I brought all of you back here for a meeting I have an announcement.”

“Booooring.” Kyouya was cut off by the Hitachiin twins, but he ignored them.

“We’re going to have another ball.” He glanced around, waiting for someone to complain.

“We had one already, and it turned into a total disaster.” Haruhi was the one who finally protested, remembering what had happened and blushing along with Tamaki, who had shared her memory.

“It also turned out to be quite a profit,” Kyouya rebutted, “In any case, I think I’d like to make this one different, but I want to work out the kinks before I announce it, so I’ll let you in on the details later, I just wanted to make sure you were all aware of it before hand.” When there were no further complaints, Kyouya added, “If none of you have anything else to say, you can go home.” He stood up, and everyone filed out the door.

Hikaru went to the bathroom when the two of them arrived at their house, and Kaoru proceeded to their bedroom and sat down on their oversized bed, staring out the window. He heard a toilet flush, and a few moments later, their bedroom door clicked closed.

“Kaoru…” Hikaru climbed onto the bed and sat facing his brother’s back, “What’s wrong Kaoru? You’ve been a space-case all day.” He said softly.

“Are you mad at me?” They both asked at the same time.

Kaoru turned to face Hikaru and allowed him to answer first. “No… I just don’t get why you ran away so suddenly…”

“I don’t know, I guess I’m getting kind of sick of it. The same old act over and over…” Kaoru winced as he said the word ‘act,’ and this didn’t go unnoticed by Hikaru.

“You know, I was really just kidding when I said we should quit, but if you want to, we can…”

“No, that’s not really it Hikaru.” Kaoru sighed deeply, then smiled at his brother, “I told you not to worry about it, remember?”

“How am I supposed to do that?” Hikaru asked, “Kaoru, you’re not making sense… Can’t you tell me? The fact that you won’t just makes me more worried you know.”

Kaoru looked at the sheets, “Sorry Hikaru,” He glanced out the window, “We stayed at the host club pretty late.” He commented, changing the subject.

“Yeah, I guess so.” Hikaru followed his brother’s gaze. The sun was setting in a beautiful explosion of red and gold. Kaoru began to tug his shirt off. “What’re you doing Kaoru?”

“I’m tired. I think I’m going to go to bed early.” He said softly, now working at his pants. Hikaru started to take his own clothes off.

“I’m pretty tired too.” He agreed. When they were both in onlt their boxers, the two slid underneath the covers and rolled over so they were facing each other. Hikaru smiled and pulled Kaoru into a hug.

“Hikaru?” Kaoru looked up at him.

“Night Kaoru.” Hikaru said softly. Just like that, they fell asleep. Everything was okay again.

Kaoru’s dream:

“Hikaru! HIKARUUU!” He called, trying to locate his brother, “Hikaru, where are you?” He whimpered, frightened. He was always with his mirror image. Always, always, ALWAYS, “HIKARU!” His voice reverberated through the air of the corn maze where he stood. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes. As his vision blurred, he saw Haruhi’s disembodied head floating before him. “Haruhi? Where’s Hikaru?”

An evil grin crept across her face, “He’s left you Kaoru. And you can never get him back…”

“Kaoru! Wake up Kaoru!” Hikaru’s voice broke though to him as he snapped awake. His body was shaking and he was drenched in sweat.

“Hikaru…” The tears that bad built up in his dream came pouring out, and he buried his face in his brother’s chest, “Hikaru….”

Hikaru held his brother protectively, “It was just a dream Kaoru.”

“No, it’s not a dream.” Kaoru shook his head, “It’s not…”

“What do you mean, Kaoru?”

“It’s breaking…” Kaoru whispered, his eyes closed as he cried himself to sleep.

“What’s breaking Kaoru?” Hikaru asked the night air rhetorically, sighing and clinging tightly to Kaoru, “What do you mean?”

I really didn’t think I’d post this, but… I like it…. I dunno, I just felt like I should.
