A/N: Um... I'm back with another character-study fic. Enjoy?

Ryou is happy during the day. He’s at school with his friends, his classmates, and his fellow schoolmates. He’s happy because he feels the presence of his friends around him.

He listens to the teachers as they discuss about different topics. It amuses the boy to learn something new, especially something that he first thought of as impossible.

Afternoon comes, most students go home, but still some others stay. Ryou is still happy. He’s with his team at practice, and he can play tennis.

He practices with the regulars, and he accommodates the non-regulars who want to test their strength. He is all but happy with this simple cycle.

Before he realizes it, it’s almost sundown. He makes a face when Davide makes yet another pun about the days that pass. He laughs when Bane starts to kick the second year in the head.

He feels contented when he walks back towards his home.

But the content he feels will not last long.

He arrives back at home, and as soon as his feet touch the wooden floor he immediately feels the lonesome aura of his family.

Atsushi is gone, and no one but his younger twin knows when he will come back.

There is no one to greet him when he comes home. No “Welcome back, Ryou!” to make him smile despite the tiring day.

His—their—parents are quiet during dinner. They eat in silence; they bask in the thought that there is no one to make their meals lively. They used to chat about the day’s work when they were complete. They had such fun times, but now they know that those times may never come back.

After dinner, Ryou temporarily forgets his loneliness as he is busy with his homework. But again, his concentration will not last long.

On most nights, Ryou just lays on his bed. He wants to fall asleep, but he can’t. He holds the false belief that maybe, just maybe, Atsushi will come back while he’s asleep.

He misses their stories before they fall asleep; he misses hearing his brother’s voice. Yes, Atsushi still calls, but there is more to cherish when you actually see the person.

He misses their goodnights to each other, and he misses the person who used to sleep on the bed in the other corner of their room.

It’s at night when Ryou is definitely alone.
