With Leisel

House/Cam

Drama/Family

I’ve seen many stories leading up to Cameron’s pregnancy; however, I haven’t read any (to my 6 second short term memory) that is focused on AFTER the child is born…Wait, I’ve read one...scratch that. ENJOY!

Prologue

It was meant to be perfect.

Right from the word go, it was meant to be a happy time, where mother and father could show off their new addition to the family, where family and friends could shower the newborn in gifts etc.

But for two people, it just wasn’t meant to be.

Chapter One

Both Allison Cameron & Gregory House woke in a split second due to the same purpose.

“It’s your turn.” Allison moaned, before turning back over in the bed that the pair shared.

Greg moaned inwardly, “Okay.” He said, before getting out of the right hand side of the bed, to comfort the crying child.

Leisel Grace House lay there in her crib, letting out screams of which either meant ‘I'm hungry’ or something else that House primarily avoided. But to both of them, Leisel’s screams were like a foreign language, untranslatable.

House limped over to where Leisel lay and picked her up. “Shh…” he hummed, before checking her nether region for any sign of a stench. He nearly breathed a sigh of relief.

“She’s just hungry.” He announced, as if it was the winning answer to a competition.

Cameron let out a ‘duh’ groan from the bed; she then switched on the light to illuminate the room. “Here, I’ll take her while you go and get a bottle -”

House nodded, on his way there, he sympathised for his wife, her breast milk was late developing, thus couldn’t feed Leisel. They had to rely on the bottle until her breast started to develop. He knew that it was killing Cameron because of this, all she wanted was to have a normal experience as a mother, and already she had to rely on other methods.

He recovered the powder, and then reached for the bottle.

“Honey, remember to-” Cameron called from inside the bedroom.

“Sterilize the bottle, yes Ally, you’ve only told me a thousand times.” House called back, putting the bottle in the microwave.

Five minutes later, Leisel was happily suckling away at the bottle while Cameron held her.

This gave Cameron a chance to admire her daughter; she had done this time after time however she couldn’t get over how much her baby girl looked like House. She had her husband’s blue eyes, which seemed to light up Cameron’s mood every time she saw them. She had Cameron’s nose, small, but significant with her features.

Leisel’s smile, which was yet to be decided as the baby girl was only 17 days old.

She reminded herself to call Cuddy that day to arrange a date where they could all go out for dinner, as Wilson & Cuddy had barely seen the child. Sure they had been in the delivery room when Cameron had given birth, however the child was quickly whisked away to the nurses to get weighed and for a gynaecologist to examine her.

It had taken both Cuddy and Wilson to calm Cameron down when the newborn was taken from her seconds after birth.

It was quite saddening, that House hadn’t even seen the birth, which upset both House & Cameron.

That week, they had 4 patients, all at the same time. It was hard enough on House as he kept trying to sneak into Maternity while he was supposed to be doing clinic duty.

The nurses threatened him with calling security, then calling Cuddy, however, they softened and ended up eventually letting him into see his two baby girls, however it was 3 hours after the birth and both child and mother were asleep.

Before the birth, Cuddy and Wilson had been named godparents, which they were thrilled with.

Chase & Foreman had been unofficially been dubbed ‘God-wombat and God-dawg’, much to their annoyance.

By that time, it was around 4am, leaving little time for House to have a proper rest before having to wake at 6.

Cameron’s older sister, Annabel was arriving that day from New York to help with the little one.

After finishing her first bottle, little Leisel was then burped and put back to sleep by Cameron.

House was half asleep, when he heard a soft whimpering.

He was about to call out to Cameron to go attend to Leisel when he realized.

Cameron was sitting on the edge of the bed, with her head in her hands. Her shoulders were shaking from her continuous sobbing.

House gently crawled up to his distraught wife, and instantly wrapped an arm around her. “Hey, hey, what's wrong?” House cooed in his softest voice as he could manage.

“Oh, nothing. I'm okay.” Cameron looked up from House’s arms. Her eyes were circled by black lines which indicated less sleep than she was used to, her hair was in a messy bunch which hung in an odd direction, she hadn’t showered as indicated by her smelly fading white dressing gown that she had worn for days in a row. “I'm fine.” She tried to smile, but faltered.

“Honestly, I'm just…just…” she struggled to finish her sentence, yawning in the process

“You’re just TIRED, okay? Go have a nice warm bath, if cherub wakes up, I’ll tend to her. I’ll even change her if need be.” The last sentence was forced by House with all his might, and Cameron knew that.

She weakly smiled, “Okay.” She whispered, before receiving a kiss on the forehead and a hug from her husband.

House knew that Cameron was struggling to cope with the growing demand of Leisel’s needs, he also knew that nobody, no matter how strong they were, could cope with a newborn on their own, so therefore he promised himself that he would force himself to help out as much as possible, and to not let all the responsibility fall on Cameron’s shoulders.

He promised.
