Ok readers,
Here is some help so you do not get confused. This story has MANY flash backs. I will post main story in the chapter titles but you HAVE to read the flashbacks to understand the story line. I’m sorry but this is the best thing that I can do to stop you from getting confused. It confused me at one point while writing (not good I know because I’m the one who wrote it)
Anyways, Carry on…
Chapter One (Flash Back)
His hooves were thundering against the hard ground of out back Australia. Alex’s heavy drizabone stuck to her back. Who knew that weather could change so fast in 20 minutes? Her pack horse trailed behind the horse and rider, lugging their gear.
They came over a ridge and pulled to a stop. Below them stood her old home town, Willow Creek.
Viper pawed the ground in anticipation, sweat was pouring off his young body not only because of the heat, but his determination to get to the river. The hill looked into a valley. 20 kilometres into the distance stood the faint outline of Pine Hollow Stables, this was Alex’s destination. She looked around again, her pack horse Jesse had finally caught up with Viper and herself; Jesse’s long grey forelock fell into his dark brumby eyes as he looked around his birth home. He lifted his head, sniffing the air. He nickered as he remembered the smells of the town.
Alex dismounted from Viper’s saddle and landed on her feet. She ground tied Viper and grabbed a lead rope from her saddle, she then walked over to Jesse; clipping it onto his halter.
“Yeah Jess, we’re finally home.” Alex petted Jesse’s forehead, then leant her cheek against his. She looked around and down and looked towards the children’s park where laughter and talking was heard not too far away. She pulled a pair of binoculars out from one of the saddle bags that were attached to Jesse and raised them to her eyes. She spied a water trough not too far off from the children’s park; it was on the other side of the fence.
“We can rest down there boys. We aren’t going to start moving again till about three.”
She looked at her watch; it was 1:15pm. Viper started to dance, his muscles rippling underneath his black coat. Alex walked over to her colt, picking up his reins and whispered his secret name.
“That’s my baby boy, you’ll be turning three soon won’t you?” He bobbed his head in response. Jesse nudged Alex’s back with his nose as if saying. What about me?
“It’s ok Elidor, you’re still my favorite” Alex whispered to the dapple grey horse. He shook his head, she laughed, pulling her stock hat further over her eyes and took her jacket off. Once it was attached to the saddle, she removed her water canteen from the saddle and remounted. Subconsciously she began resting herself against Viper’s neck; memories of her childhood and old home came flooding back.
