It’s All Coming Back To Me
This could be the last fic I write for about two weeks because, joy of joys, I have my first exams this week and next week. Got my first Sociology one today actually. Only been studying the damn subject since September. Grr! Anyways, my Grandad wouldn't stop playing Celine Dion in the car over Christmas and I liked this song so...here we go with it. Oh and I suppose you might need a backstory because it's kinda confusing otherwise, uh, ok basically Grissom and Sara were together years ago but something happened, or didn't happen, and they split up. Have fun!
P.S. Yes Joey, it's Celine Dion, disown me if you wish
There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If I just listened to it right outside the window
A soft knocking on her front door, that she would not have heard had she not been laying so still to relax, startled her and she reached over to the bedside lamp to turn it on. The light burned her eyes and she squinted at the clock. It indicated 5am, and on Sara’s day off, a visitor was not what she wanted. She huffed and got out of bed anyway, grabbing her bath robe on the way out of the room.
There were days when the sun was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes were drying up forever
She got to the door and opened it, revealing…nothing. She sighed, thinking she had imagined the knocking. Perhaps it had been the wind. “Great, now I’ll never get to sleep.” She mumbled and began to close the door.
“Sara?” a voice stopped her from closing the door completely and she slowly opened it again, poking her head around the gap. Someone walked towards her. “Hey, oh, I didn’t wake you up did I?” he glanced at her attire and looked nervous.
“No you’re fine.” She smiled kindly at him and leaned against the door panel. “Do you want to come in or was it just a fleeting visit at 5am on my day off?” she chuckled to let him know she was joking, but he still looked unsure. “Look, it’s windy and raining, come in.” she left the door open and went back into the house.
I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when or how
And I banished every memory you and I had ever made
“Do you want something to drink?” she asked him, putting the kettle on to make herself a coffee. She turned back to him as the door closed and he entered her home.
“Yeah, thanks.” He looked around and took in her front room, it hadn’t changed since the last time he had been there over five years ago.
“Here.” She touched his arm and handed him a mug of coffee. “Milk first, two sugars.” The corners of his mouth turned up.
“You remembered.” He caught her eyes for a second before she looked away and sat on the arm chair with her own coffee.
“So, was there something you wanted Griss?” she blew across the top of the brown liquid before taking a small sip and placing the mug on the coffee table in front of her. Grissom sat opposite her on the couch and did the same.
But when you touch me like this, and you hold me like that
I just have to admit that it's all coming back to me
When I touch you like this, and I hold you like that
It's so hard to believe but it's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)
“I just wondered how you were.” He shrugged and examined the back of his left hand. “You know, catch up.”
“Catch up?” she repeated.
“Yeah, you know, because I’ve noticed that we haven’t spent that much time together for a while and, well…” he trailed off and picked up him mug again.
“Right.” Sara said. “Not that I’m complaining, but couldn’t this have waited until the day time?” she could sense where this may be leading, but she wasn’t sure.
“Not really.” He whispered. Sara waited for him to elaborate and when he didn’t she sighed. “I would have lost my nerve if I didn’t come now.” She laughed at this.
“You would have lost your nerve to catch up with me?” he smiled slightly and shook his head. “Aww, am I really that scary?”
“Sometimes.” She laughed again and he joined in. she took another sip of her coffee as Grissom stared at her and sighed. “What happened to us Sara?” she paused in lowering her mug and then stood up, heading to the kitchen.
“What do you mean?” she said with her back to him.
“You know what I mean Sara.” she jumped when she realised he was leaning on the countertop right behind her. “We were so happy once.”
There were moments of gold and there were flashes of light
There were things I'd never do again but then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure, it was more than any laws allow
Baby Baby
If I kiss you like this, and if you whisper like that
It was lost long ago but it's all coming back to me
If you want me like this, and if you need me like that
It was dead long ago but it's all coming back to me
It's so hard to resist and it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall but it's all coming back to me now
But it's all coming back
“That was a long time ago Grissom and you know what happened.” She poured what remained of her coffee down the drain but kept her back to him. “We drifted apart, it happens.”
“No, Sara, it doesn’t happen, what we had was different, not everyone can have that.”
“Exactly.” She span around to face him. “Not everyone can have it, it obviously wasn’t meant to happen with us.”
“I don’t believe that.” He said.
“Then why did you let it end?” she said. He just looked at her. “You let your work consume your life, you still do it now.”
“It takes two to tango Sara.” Grissom seethed. Sara laughed mirthlessly.
“Oh and don’t I know it.” She shook her head and walked closer to him. “Have you seen much of Kate since you slept with her?” Grissom jumped forwards off the countertop.
“I did not sleep with Kate, I told you that the day you walked out.”
“Is it any wonder why I walked out?” she raised her voice. “You spent every moment you could with her and gave me no reason as to why, what the hell was I supposed to think?”
“That I was doing just as I told you and trying to work.” He matched her voice.
“And there’s that word again, work, the most important thing in Gil Grissom’s world.”
There were those empty threats and hollow lies
And whenever you tried to hurt me
I just hurt you even worse and so much deeper
There were hours that just went on for days
When alone at last we'd count up all the chances
That were lost to us forever
“Until I met you.” He stressed but Sara barked with a hollow laugh. Grissom turned and walked away.
“Oh that’s it, just run away like usual, don’t face up to the problem you started Grissom, you might hear something you don’t like.”
“I’m not running away Sara.” he rubbed his face.
“Well it’s what I’m used to so you can excuse me for expecting as much from you.”
But you were history with the slamming of the door
And I made myself so strong again somehow
And I never wasted any of my time on you since then
“Sara,” he turned back to her. “I’m not running away, I want to fix this.”
“You want to fix what Grissom?” she snapped.
“Us Sara.” he stepped forwards. “I want to fix us.”
“There hasn’t been an ‘us’ for over ten years.”
“I know that and I’ve regretted every day since then.” He reached for Sara’s hand but she pulled away. “Sara-”
“Please don’t.” she stepped past him but he caught her arm. “Please Griss.”
“Why?” he moved closer. “Why can’t you let me try Sara?”
“Why didn’t you try the first time around?” she tearfully said.
“I know.” He sighed. “I made lots of mistakes and the biggest one was letting you go.” His hand came up to caress her cheek and she closed her eyes. “I loved you back then and I still love you now, I never stopped.” He whispered. Sara looked at him. His eyes flitted between hers and her lips. She raised her head closer to him and he brushed his lips across hers.
But if I touch you like this, and if you kiss me like that
It was so long ago but it's all coming back to me
If you touch me like this, and if I kiss you like that
It was gone with the wind but it's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)
There were moments of gold and there were flashes of light
There were things we'd never do again but then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure, it was more than all your laws allow
Baby, Baby, Baby
He pulled back slightly but Sara pulled his head back down to continue the kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck and his other hand moved to her hip. The kiss became passionate and their tongues clashed with each other. After a few minutes and when the need for oxygen became to great, Sara slowed and pulled away. Grissom tightened his arms around her and pulled her into his embrace.
“Why do you make me feel like this?” Sara sobbed. “Why do you make me forget all the bad times?”
“Because I want to forget them too. I just want my life with you back.” He rubbed her back soothingly and kissed her shoulder. They stood holding each other for a few minutes, just content to be near one another.
When you touch me like this, and when you hold me like that
It was gone with the wind but it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this, and when I see you like that
Then we see what we want to see all coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies all coming back to me
I can barely recall but it's all coming back to me now
“I do love you Sara, I’m sorry for everything.” Grissom mumbled.
“So am I.” Sara whispered back. “Forgive me?”
“Only if you forgive me.” He kissed her lips softly.
“There’s nothing to forgive.” she ran a hand through his curls. “The past is in the past.”
If you forgive me all this, if I forgive you all that
We forgive and forget and it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this, and when I see you like that
We see just what we want to see all coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies all coming back to me
I can barely recall but it's all coming back to me now
(It's all coming back to me now)
And when you kiss me like this
(It's all coming back to me now)
And when I touch you like that
(It's all coming back to me now)
If you do it like this
(It's all coming back to me now)
And if we...
The End
