Sometimes, he preferred his eyes dark—and not bright with the Sharigan

DARK EYES
Naruto sighed to himself as he walked quietly behind Sasuke and Sakura as they walked from the mission reports office. Obviously, they had completed a mission and had turned in the report, but that wasn’t why he was sighing. Nor was it that he wanted to go back onto a mission because he would miss actually doing something until the next one, or because he was relieved that they had finished it and they could now do nothing.
It was just that… this mission required Sasuke to use his Sharigan, and Naruto didn’t like that. He knew that the Sharigan was a useful tool against enemies, or it was for those who had it. Who wouldn’t want something that allowed them to copy their moves and allow them to see through illusions? It would make training a lot easier if he were able to just watch someone do something when it was activated and he could do it perfectly then!
But… his eyes turning from that familiar dark, dark brown to a fiery red still scared him. It reminded him of days when they were more enemies than friends or teammates, back when feelings of inadequacy took over them and made them do stupid things all too easily, and when the darkness that lurked behind them was all too overbearing.
“Dobe,” Sasuke said harshly. “Hurry up,”
Naruto looked up, and noticed that he had fallen really far behind, and that Sakura had already gone off somewhere. Most likely Sasuke chased him off or Ino dragged her somewhere for whatever reason. Girls.
“Ah, sorry!” he exclaimed with a bright grin.
“What was so interesting that you had to stare off into space?” He asked once Naruto had caught up. It was obvious that he was more annoyed than usual.
Naruto shrugged his shoulders. “Nothing too important,”
“How typical of you.”
“Hey! I’m capable of thinking! Just because I act like an idiot doesn’t mean I am one!” Naruto yelled, ready to pound his fists into the smirk that now covered his friend’s face. Sasuke merely rolled his eyes at the blond.
“Prove it,” Sasuke dared.
Scowling, Naruto tried to think of something that would impress him and prove that he could think on a higher level than most people at the same time. Saying some wise quote or repeating some long poem wouldn’t do. Memorization was too easy and simple for all of the things they had to learn and memorize. “You’re eyes!”
Sasuke blinked in confusion. “What?”
“Your fangirls keep saying how your eyes are this dark inky color—like the sky at midnight or something equally as mushy. If they looked hard enough, they’d see that your eyes are just a really dark brown.” Smiling, he crossed his arms proudly and waited for Sasuke to admit his intelligence so he could gloat.
“And the reason for finding out what color my eyes really are is…?”
“Uh…” Naruto mentally smacked himself on the head. If this wasn’t a stupid and embarrassing situation, he didn’t know what one was! And the worst thing was that he hand put himself into it! Why couldn’t he keep his big mouth shut?! “Uh… I… Gotta go meet Iruka for ramen! Bye!”
Sasuke started blinking in confusion once more as Naruto ran away in a burst of dust.
Why was he blushing like that?
