Chapter 2b: Red Hearts

Mina couldn’t sleep. She knew that something was wrong with Soma. She got up out of bed and followed him to see Arikado but she didn’t realize that Soma knew that she was there!

“Mina what are you doing out of bed?” The fair haired boy asked the brunette. She looked at him and blushed before answering.

“Soma I was worried about you.” She said as she held his hands in hers. He felt cold to her but she didn’t mind. She knew that he was going through another change. He would continue until his twenty first year as Arikado said he would. He was now twenty. One year to go. She still couldn’t tell him how she felt about him. Of how she loved him and how much she always worried when he risked his life for the sake of mankind. She wished that he could stop but she knew that his soul drove him. His heart wanted people to be at peace but what about his own? What of his life? With the way he was going, he wasn’t going to have much of one! He’ll end up like the Belmont clan! Yes they were great, they were famous and yet, they ended up alone!

“Soma, why do you have to put your life at risk all the time?” She asked. Soma looked at her with calm eyes and sighed.

“I do it Mina because no one else can.” He answered her solemnly. Mina looked at her crush and wanted to cry.

“Please Soma, please come away from this.”

“I can’t Mina. I don’t want you hurt because I decided not to do anything.”

“It is not your place!” Mina said. “There’s always going to be good and evil. You can’t upset that balance!”

“I’m not upsetting it Mina. I’m trying to contain it.”

“You can’t! You’re only a kid!”

“Mina,” Soma said gently as he held her by the shoulders. “I don’t want to lose you. I care for you too much. More than words can say. If I lost you, I wouldn’t be the same anymore. And I don’t want that to happen…”

“Soma, you won’t lose me.”

“Then let me do this. Please?”

“Fine…” Mina sighed as she looked at the young man before her. “Just…be careful…” She sighed as she looked down at the ground. Soma held her to him and kissed her on the forehead.

“Mina,” He whispered as he held her and rocked her. “No matter what happens, you’ll always have my heart… Remember that.” With that he turned to go down the stairs to the study and Mina went to bed, her heart soaring and her soul light. Soma was hers and that was good enough for her!
