-1Hello! Thanks for deciding to check this out - this idea popped into my head one day, so I had to get it down! Grissom is a little bit OOC is this one, but he has to be to make it work.

I own nothing you recognise

Consequences of Actions

Sara paced up and down the living room, she couldn’t believe she could have been so stupid - she didn’t want to believe she had let this happen - but she had, and now she had to live with the consequences - whatever they may be.

Now that Grissom was due home any moment she would have to tell him, she would have to confess that she had been unfaithful to him in so many ways, that she had actually….

Sara sighed and stopped pacing, shaking her head she attempted to get the images of the night of her betrayal out of her mind, but she couldn’t the images were so vivid, the feelings so real and intense.

Grissom better get home soon, if he didn’t she may end up calling him and telling him first, before Grissom and that would really go down well.

With another sigh Sara went about staring at the door, as if it would somehow cause Grissom to appear there from thin air, scoffing at herself for being ridiculous Sara sat down on the couch and clasped her hands together, placing them on her knees.

Now all she could do was wait, wait and somehow get her story straight…

Sara was in the exact same position two hours later when Grissom walked through the doorway - double taking at the sight of her waiting on the couch.

“Sara?” Grissom asked, “Honey what are you doing - what’s wrong?” Grissom noticed Sara’s distress as soon as she rose from the couch and started to pace again.

“I let myself in,” Sara told him in a mumble, “I really, really need to talk to you…”

“Sara, I just got home - can this wait - please,” Grissom sighed, sounding exhausted.

“No, No!” Sara told him, stopping her pacing to turn to look at him, “This is important Gil, and its that kind of talk that… that…”

“What kind of talk?” Grissom frowned, “What in the world are you talking about?”

“You - and the way you, you…” Sara shook her head, “It’s like, sometimes, you don’t even care.”

“I do care Sara… I’m sorry its just been a long week… what’s wrong - please tell me, I want to know…”

Sara took a deep breath, “Okay, okay - you have to promise not to yell, or jump to conclusions or anything…” Sara waited for Grissom to nod before adding, “Griss - I’m pregnant.”

“Well, that’s a good thing - why would you think I would yell at you for that?”

“Let me finish!” Sara snapped getting frustrated, “I’m pregnant yes but… its not yours…”

There was a small silence, “I don’t understand I… the only way that would… if you… why would you… how could you…”

“You went away on sabbatical and … and you…” Sara had tears in her eyes as she tried to tell Grissom how she had felt, “And you never called, you never wrote - no contact… it was like you didn’t care - that I was suddenly very unimportant..”

“Sara… I can’t believe that would lead you to… to… you could have just told me.”

“I tried to,” Sara yelled through her tears, “But you were busy remember - I called you and you had no time for me… none at all…”

“That still doesn’t give you the right to do this to me!”

“The right?” Sara laughed, “I can’t believe this - do you know how horrible I feel, do you know how much times I’ve wished I could take it back…”

“You can’t take it back Sara, you never will be able to…” Grissom’s voice had an edge of bitterness in it, “I still can’t understand what would led you to…”

“You want to know why, what made me do it…” Sara’s voice was now riddled with tears, “I called you that night for some comfort Gill, I needed… I needed someone, I was attacked doing our perfect job okay… he was there - you weren’t…”

“You… you were hurt?”

Sara scoffed, “Right - now you’re sympathetic,” Sara wiped her eyes, “It doesn’t matter, all that matters, all that I care about - is what you are going to do now… how are you going to handle this….”

Grissom frowned at her, “Handle? Sara there is no way to handle this… you slept with someone else… you, you can’t expect me to be okay with that, you can’t expect me not to be angry or…”

“I thought you might be a little more understanding…” Sara whispered, “I need you right now Griss - please…”

“Understanding?” Grissom’s voice was rising every moment, “Why in the world should I be understanding… I mean you turned to some stranger and…”

“He was not a stranger…” Sara mumbled, “But does that really matter?”

“It matters to me that..” Grissom thought for a moment, then laughed bitterly, “I know him don’t I… my god Sara, don’t you think? Its someone form the team right?” He laughed again, “This is your mess Sara, none of this is my problem…”

“This is your problem,” Sara yelled at him as he went to walk away, “If you had been a little… warmer maybe this wouldn’t have happened….”

“Whatever Sara,” Grissom shook his head, “It was your choice - and you’re the one that’s going to have to tell him - good luck with that..”

Sara stared at Grissom’s retreating back, “So… so where does this leave us?”

“Nowhere Sara… we don’t exist anymore…” Grissom paused at the front door, “I’m going out - and I hope for your sake you’re not here when I get back…”

Sara watched in shock as Grissom left the apartment - completely indifferent about how he had handled it, completely oblivious to what state he had left her in.

“Oh god, no, no this can’t be happening,” Sara slumped down into the couch, “Oh that is not how I imagined this would go….” Tears spilled down Sara’s cheeks, she was all alone, totally alone, she had hoped that maybe Grissom could have seen past everything….

Sara shook her head, wiping the tears from her eyes as she made her way over to the phone, she wasn’t totally alone - hadn’t he told her that?

Taking a deep breath, Sara picked up her cell from where she had left it and dialled a well known number.

“Hey.. Yeah its me… what, no I’m okay I mean… I will be fine… I just, I really need to talk to you now… yeah now would be real good… Sorry, okay yes, I’ll met you there… thank you…”

Sara finished the phone call with a sigh, she looked around the apartments that had been her second home for the past year and sighed again.

It was time to leave it all behind, and maybe, just maybe, start a new life with someone else…

He was waiting for her outside the café he said he would, he greeted her with a smile, motioning for her to sit down at a table with him outside.

“You didn’t sound too good on the phone Sara, what’s going on - are you okay?”

“Grissom… Grissom left me…” Sara mumbled, “We’ve been together for the last year and now… he just… he…”

His face was confused as he watched Sara look nervously around the café, “You, you and Grissom… a whole year… Sara that means.. That night, you two were… oh shit…” He sighed, then noticed the tears in her eyes, “You told him… and thought you could have worked it out?”

“I didn’t tell him it was you, and I think he would have been okay if that was the only thing…” Sara was obviously nervous, “Okay, I’m just going to say it…” She shook her head and took a deep breath, “I’m pregnant… and, and its yours…”

An eerie silence ensues Sara’s comment, it was deathly quiet for about ten minutes before Sara decided to speak again.

“Greg, Greg could you please say something?”

Greg blinked once, then twice before asking, “pardon?”

Sara sighed, “Greg, if, if this is too huge for you, then just say so okay. Say it now and I’ll walk away, you’ll never have anything to do with it and I’ll… and I’ll do this alone..”

“Whoa, whoa Sara, I never said that,” Greg gave her an awkward smile, “I didn’t say that did I… Its not like I would leave you like that… It was just a slight shock…”

“You - you want to be a part of this?” Sara asked, astonished at how there was no yelling, no pointing of the finger, “You’re, you’re not going to yell at me and tell me that this is all my mess.”

“Is that what Grissom said?” Greg sighed, “Sara - this is my mess too, and I’m not going to let you go through it alone - what kind of person would I be if I did…”

“Oh… Oh Greg, you have no idea how, I …” Sara blinked back tears, “I never intended to do this to you… I… hope you know that it was totally sincere…”

Greg raised his eyebrows at Sara, “I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it was…” He paused and looked around, “Do you want to go somewhere a little more private?”

Sara blinked, “yeah, yeah we have a lot to discuss,” She got out of her seat and smothered Greg in a tight hug, “Thank you so much - I really thought I would have to do this alone..”

“I will never leave you alone,” Greg told her, leading her away from the café, he smiled at her before adding, “I thought I already told you that?”

“You did,” Sara smiled back, getting into Greg’s car, “And I will always be grateful for that but…” She bit her lip as Greg started the car, “What are we going to do with… work?”

“You let me handle it,” Greg told her, knowing exactly what she was thinking he added, “Let me talk to Grissom.”

x-x-x

Greg and Sara came to work together the net day, raising questions in the lab as some people saw them arrive. They did not, however, care one moment what rumour were started that morning, they didn’t care the raised eyebrows they got from people in the lab, or the questioning looks they revived from Nick, Warrick and Cath as they entered the break room.

“Does anyone know where Griss is?” Greg asked, ignoring the looks he was getting from his fellow night shifters.

“In his office, where else?” Nick answered, looking from Sara to Greg in confusion, “You know people are saying…”

“Do you always believe what people say Nick.” Sara snapped, glaring at him, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to snap at you I… Cath, could I have a private word please?”

Catherine blinked, “Um sure Sara, what’s up?” Catherine followed Sara out the door, to somewhere were they could talk privately.

“I need to speak to Griss,” Greg mumbled, leaving the break room before Nick or Warrick could ask him any questions.

The walk to Grissom’s office seemed way to short for Greg’s liking, he and Sara had discussed how this conversation may go, but now he was here - Greg’s mind had gone blank.

Greg took a deep breath before knocking on Grissom’s office, opening the door quietly to reveal Grissom sitting at his desk, “Um, Griss, am I interrupting?”

Grissom blinked, “No, no Greg - what can I do for you?”

“I… I think we need to talk.”

The look that passed across Grissom’s face gave Greg the impression that he knew exactly what about, Grissom sighed before indicating to the chair beside his desk,

“I think you’re right - have a seat Greg - lets talk.”
