A really late Hallowe'en oneshot, but nevertheless one. Hope you enjoy it. : )
Disclaimer What do you expect me to say?
Whenever Hallowe'en came around, she almost always felt an awkward sort of fear - not because ot was a 'spooky' sort of holiday (as Beast Boy had put it), as that would have just been plain silly, seeing as she was, after all, the daughter of the incarnation of evil himself.
No. The cause of her distress was because every year, the mayor would invite them to a costume party, and a) she did not like crowds, and b)
Costumes were simply not her thing.
Normally, she would just opt to stay at the Tower but unfortunately, this year, she couldn't. If she didn't come along, Beast Boy would be proved right and she wrong, then the world she knew would come to a horrible, horrible end, and everyone would go mad.
... Well, maybe she was exaggerating, but anyway.
The things I do for pride, she sighed inwardly. She glanced at the mirror one more time before she left her room. Well, at any rate, she didn't look too bad tonight. She had genuinely liked the costume when she finished it. The head dress wasn't horrible, either.
"Don't my lil' sis look great tonight," a voice remarked behind her.
She smiled slightly, and turned around to face the owner of the voice. "Thanks," she replied, her lips trying to twitch her face into a full-fledged smile as she suppressed it. "You don't look so bad, either."
Cyborg had once again taken on his holographic appearance and donned on the classic formal, elegant tux. He beamed at her praise. "And don't I know it." He eyed curiously her cobra headdress and her glittering turquoise brooch and asked, "Who are you going as?"
She told him.
He grinned triumphantly. "I thought so." He thoughtfully added, "It suits you, you know."
Her cheeks coloured lightly at the compliment, and she thanked him demurely just as they entered the main room. Robin had already arrived, his back facing them.
Then, she saw his costume. Her heart sank as deeply as was possibly allowed.
Starfire would kill her if she knew.
Robin began to turn around, greeting, "Hey--"
Telekinesis froze him before he could see her.
"Don't. Turn. Around." Her quiet voice rang resonantly.
Cyborg glanced amusedly between them.
"All right," Robin said slowly, awkwardly, and the black energy released him. "Why?"
"Robin," came her serious voice, "Who are you dressing up as?"
He fingered nervously the edge of the long, red cape he was wearing and trained his gaze onto his sandals to keep himself from turning around and disrespecting her wishes.
He answered her question and told her.
She blanched, almost all colour leaving her face.
Oh yeah, how Starfire would kill her.
Cyborg began, "You're... you're..."
"Don't say it," she warned.
"You're..."
"Don't say it, or I'll blast you millions of dimensions away where you'll have to eat tofu for the rest of your life while slowly being devoured by magma infinitely hotter than those of the nearest volcano."
That silenced Cyborg effectively.
Finally, he couldn't resist the temptation, and turned around to face her, meeting her eyes.
Beast Boy chose that moment to charge into the room, wearing his Count Dracula attire. He goggled at the frozen two, and, unable to pause his mouth, his shrieking voice burst out for all to hear.
"No WAY! You guys are going as Mark Antony and Cleopatra?!"
