A/N Well here it is, my very first Twilight FanFic. Hope you like it! Please review, reviews make me happy, and then I write faster :)

By the By, I don't own Twilight or it's characters, though I wish I did.

xo Courtlyn.

He looked her over, though he had her memorized bottom to top, the edges of his memory of her had become blurred in the 5 months that they had been apart. He still couldn't figure out why she'd run, why his wife had fled when she needed the support of their family the most. He'd done what she'd asked, though he was reluctant to take her mortal soul, he'd done it for her. He could never deny her.

The process had drained him, though he'd kept that little detail to himself. He thought that perhaps he was being a bit paranoid, but he knew, deep down, that something had gone awry when he changed her. Some of her scent had lingered, her features remained oddly soft, and he was fatigued after the process was initiated. None of it made sense to him, but along with his memory of her face, his memory of that night and the following days were a bit fuzzy.

Now he was sitting next to her in a high school biology class (a familiar scene for the pair of them) in a small town in New York State. They were tucked away in the Adirondack Mountains, with plenty of clouds and rain and plentiful deer and black bears. Bella had done her homework, or perhaps she'd just gotten lucky playing a game of pin the tail on the U.S. map. Either way, she would have little need to hide and even less reason to avoid hunting when the big game were literally in her back yard.

He focused in on her, taking in every inch of her being. Her hair was the same mahogany mane he remembered, the same hair she'd used to shield herself from him the first time they'd been lab partners. Her tawny eyes informed him that she'd stay true to their ways, and had recently indulged in the elimination of the local wildlife. He silently wondered what her preference was. Her sharp features and full lips put all others to shame, though she'd retained some of her human softness and the heart-shaped face that was purely Bella.

He could smell her, though her scent was different now. It was sharper, the scent of vampire mixed with the intoxicating aroma that she'd always carried. Though he was still unsure of why she seemed so human, he knew that she was still, very much a vampire. He was her sire, her husband, and by the look on her face the last person that she had any interest in seeing.

He recognized the pants and shoes she wore as items that Alice had picked up during one of her marathon shopping excursions, one that he had excused Bella from, keeping her busy with other, more adult activities; activities that Alice had probably watched, whether she'd intended to or not. The sweater she wore was much too large. The sleeves were pushed up to her elbows, but the bottom of the shirt nearly touched her knees. The shirt had once been his, and she would never admit that she'd kept it for his smell and that she wore it when she missed him the most.

As he scanned her petite frame, a figure that he knew by heart and he longed to touch again, she kept her alabaster hands in her lap. She seemed to be shaking slightly, though he couldn't tell whether she was angry or nervous. She kept her eyes pointed at the front of the room while he stared at her. As his eyes went over her once again, he noticed one small, immensely human detail.
