Chapter 4

A flicker of awareness seeped into his hazed mind. He stopped what he was doing. Nothing could ever distract him when he was in the middle of such pleasure except one thing...

He smiled in greater pleasure at the women who sat bound with her arms above her head next to the wall. Her dull brown hair had lost his luster pretty soon. She whimpered in fright at his smile. He crouched down to her and ran his finger down her cheek and further down to her nakedness. He chuckled as his fingernail cut through the skin on her breast. He followed the blood that poured down toward her nipple. He quickly swept down and licked it.

She weakly cried out in denial to his freedom of her body. He grinned at her reaction. His other hand trailed up her thigh, blood following in its wake. She silently sobbed seeming to run out of strength.

“I liked your screams,” he told her. He quickly ripped her stomach with his hands. Her screams filled the room and echoed from the walls until they finally died long after she had. “But I love another’s so much more!”

He closed his eyes in ecstasy lost in his memories.

“What happened?” someone whispered. I looked up to find Jasper looking at me. He was the one who had spoken. He knows how I’m feeling, I thought. Edward tensed beside me. I vaguely realized that Edward knew, too, by reading Jasper’s mind. They knew I felt great despair and acceptance.

“I escaped,” I told them. “I escaped.”

“We can help you,” Carlisle said sadly. “You can forget.”

“Forget?” I glared him. I heard his screams in my dreams every night. “I will never forget.” Especially when I’m always on the run.

“We’ll protect you,” Edward declared. I glanced at him and searched his eyes. How could I trust someone such as he… a vampire?

“Vampires protecting me from their own kind,” I chuckled without any trace of humor. “I don’t trust your kind.”

“We don’t trust yours,” Rosalie snapped.

“We have no intention of hurting you,” Esme said softly. I narrowed my eyes at her. The ones who were so soft spoken were, especially, not to be trusted.

“You have nothing to fear, Bella,” Alice smiled slightly. “I promise.”

“You’re safe,” Edward told me. He seemed so honest. I felt the desire to trust him but knew I couldn’t. Yet the desire didn’t leave me. Maybe it was because I’ve been alone for so long.

“You don’t really trust us,” Alice pouted.

“We’ll keep you safe from the bad bats,” Emmett grinned flexing his muscle. His smile was so contagious that I could barely hold back my slight smile.

“Acceptance of what?” Jasper, suddenly asked. I had hoped he wouldn’t ask.

“Of my life full of vampires,” I lied.

“I will protect you, Bella Swan,” Edward vowed. “I promise.”

THIS IS IT FOR THIS CHAPTER. SORRY IT’S SHORT AGAIN. I WANTED TO PUT CH. 3 & 4 TOGETHER BUT IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN LONGER TO UPDATE… :-D
