Only If

By FTC

Disclaimer Harry Potter is the property of J.K.Rowling.

Summery: Rose Weasley finds herself visiting the library more often, becoming smitten with Scorpius Malfoy, and breaking old family rivalries.

Author’s Notes/ This is my first fanfiction I have actually written that isn’t cannon/oc. I didn’t make this story with much detail and instead made it a very light read. It felt very different not going into detail with the characters lives and such. Oh, just a warning: It is an extremely bubbly and cheesy story. I really do apologize.

I am still trying to comprehend the comma and the semicolon, so helpful writing tips would be appreciated. No flames. I hope you enjoy

Snow fell thick outside, surrounding Hogwarts in a stunning crystal covering. Rose Weasley admired the beauty winter brought, but only from inside the confines of the old school. As she peered out one of the long, thin windows lined along the corridor she grinned, watching as students filtered into the courtyard. It was a brilliant Saturday morning and as she saw people were making the best of the winter weather. On the other hand, she wasn’t to keen of the freezing temperature and came to spend most of her free time in the library during the winter season; the exact place she was heading.

Ungluing herself from the seen below, she began walking down the hall, fingering the rather large tome she had in her hands; an interesting book on wizarding history, including the infamous battle between Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter- she was a history enthusiast and couldn’t resist a book chalk full of the past. Turning the corner she sped up as the entrance to the library came into view, crossing the threshold in a flurry as if being chased by a mob of Death Eaters.

Slipping her book into the return slot she fled the front desk before Madam Pince caught sight of her; she often liked to point out minor imperfections of any students that wandered into her sight, becoming more short-tempered as she aged. Making herself disappear behind one of the many rows of books, she walked casually down the aisle, turning the corner and then skipped to the right as if she could barely contain herself.

Coming to a standstill at a dead-end she stood in the shadows of two bookshelves and made sure nobody was insight; with shaking fingers she plied to leather-bound books apart.

Suddenly her heart started to pound rapidly in her chest. He was there, sitting at an empty table leaning over a piece of parchment, delicately writing on its manila surface; his pale blonde hair hanging over his eyes as he bent his head forward. Her cheeks grew warm, becoming tinged with a light pink. She had become infatuated with Scorpius Malfoy.

Scorpius was a Slytherin in his sixth year and the Seeker for his house’s Qudditch team. He came from a rich and prosperous family, his father and mother pureblood wizards, and a pampered only child. Roaming the passages of Hogwarts he was arrogant, and tended to make many enemies in Gryffindor house, but was respected by Slytherins from year one to seven. Girls fancied him and stalked him down the halls nonstop, getting into cat fights to decide who would get to sit next to him in class and with his cunning cleverness sucked up to the staff.

The library had always been like her sanctuary, always the first place she went during free periods. It was about three weeks ago when Scorpius began to show up everyday. She remembered getting flustered when he made his regular seat directly behind her. His presence made her so nervous that she could no longer sit and read, and instead hurriedly checked out books taking a quick glimpse of him before she left. Eventually this had become her daily schedule and she found herself yearning for his company. She tried to deny her budding emotions for the young man, she didn’t even now much about him, but as he relaxed his face he looked so kind and tender.

No matter, it was a silly thought. Besides the famed Gryffindor and Slytherin rivalry, there was an opposition among her family and the Malfoys; dating back to when her parents went to Hogwarts. Only if pride and personal opinions didn’t get in the way of other peoples relationships.

He glanced around the room, his eyes lingering on the seat before him and then he began to roll up his parchment and bottle his ink. When all of his supplies were packed into his messenger bag he stood up, looking once more around the room as if he expected someone to be there; letting out a low sigh when no one turned up. With his arrogance revived, he strode away, vanishing from view.

Rose echoed his sigh. She wished to talk to him. Swallowing a hard lump that formed in her throat she gained her composure, grabbing a random book from the shelves; Hogwarts, a History. Walking halfheartedly to the checkout she collided with somebody coming from around the corner.

Becoming very embarrassed, she apologized profusely; hoping it wasn’t madam Pince or she would get a tongue lashing.

“It’s okay,” Assured a drawling voice.

Looking up she gaped, the words tumbling from her mouth and her mind going blank. Scorpius gazed down at her with soft grey eyes, a small smirk playing his lip. She turned to leave, but he caught her forearm before she scampered off.

“Are you not Rose Weasley?” He asked, “A Gryffindor sixth year?”

Still at a loss for words she only nodded, keeping her head low so that her hair fell over her eyes. She listened as he addressed himself in that smooth silky voice, every word encased in a thin layer of ice. His hand was still rested on her arm and she felt dizzy; her mind reeling.

As if he sensed her unease he dropped his grip upon her arm. “I’m sorry to have imposed on you like this.” He paused as Hugo, Rose’s younger brother walked into the library.

“I think he’s looking for me.” When Scorpius gave her a questioning look she added quickly, “I was going to help him with his Potion’s essay. It’s got nothing to do with you.”

It seemed Hugo had spotted his sister and his brows immediately furrowed at the sight of the Slytherin.

Scorpius leaned towards her, whispering rapidly. “Would you mind going to Hogsmeade with me next weekend?” He flashed anxious glances between her and the swift form of Hugo maneuvering through the bookshelves.

Rose couldn’t stop herself as she beamed foolishly, her voice cracked with giggles. “Of course,” She replied enthusiastically; her heart hammering in excitement.

“Okay, I’ll…I’ll see you around then?”

“Absolutely,” She chuckled. “Now you better get a move on or Hugo might have something to say about it.”

Free from worry, Scorpius bid her farewell, gently brushing the hair out of her face with his pale fingers.

“What do you think you’re doing to my sister?” Hugo asked sharply. “Hey, I was talking to you.” He shouted as Scorpius idly strode away.

“Hugo do you want to get a talking to from Madam Pince or get that essay finished?” Rose asked firmly, directing her brother to an aisle of books which possessed valuable information on potions.

“What was Malfoy doing?” Hugo questioned. “He didn’t do anything to you did he?”

Tucking Hogwarts a History under her arm, she plucked a couple books off the shelves. “Now, don’t go and have a heart attack. He was just asking me something, that’s all. And right now I suggest you focus on your work or you’ll never get done.”

“But-“

“No buts.” She said, wagging a finger in his face.

Losing the battle, Hugo sighed and together they whisked away to an empty table.

Rose found it very difficult concentrating on the text in the book; which contracted many concerned glances from Hugo. She was still feeling giddy. His face had been so close and he smelled like the air after snow had freshly fallen. Next weekend seemed so far away and it was so hard to suppress her pleasure. Rose suddenly wondered what her friends would say when she told them she was going to have a date with the Scorpius Malfoy?

Author’s Notes/ I hope it wasn’t to devastating to read. I made Scorpius quite the popular ladies man and Rosie a shy bookworm; do you think those characterizations fit them? And I made Hugo an overprotective brother. I think all brothers are; no matter if their younger or older. Now, how would her family react? Again, no flames, but writing tips would be greatly appreciated.
