Look After You
1. Another One
The sight of him still makes her go weak at the knees, even thought it had been a month since their close encounters together. Since then she’d avoided him at all costs and tried to distance herself from him, but that hadn’t stopped the thought’s running through her mind. She constantly considered him kissing her, holding her, running his hands through her hair. She’d often found herself looking at him in his tops and wondering what kind of body he had underneath then scolding herself for ever looking at one of her employee’s in that way.
DI Samantha Nixon sat in her office when there was a knock at the door, she called for them to enter, only for it to be DS Max Carter. She almost groaned aloud, he’d occupied her thoughts for so long and now he was close to her; she felt scared of what she may do out of desperation. She had images of her throwing herself at him in a most embarrassing fashion, only to be knocked back then met with an extremely cold DS.
“A young woman’s been brought into St. Hugh’s. She has a slash across her back and is claiming to have been raped.” Max told her.
Sam sighed sadly. “Another one?”
He nodded. “She’s got bruising to her wrists and ankles; it looks like she’d been tied up for a while.”
“That’s new.” Sam replied, a frown settling on her face.
“Maybe our guys gaining in confidence, he thinks he can abduct them and hold them for a while now too.” Max provided.
“Yeah, has anyone been reported missing recently?” Sam asked.
“Stevie … err DC Moss is just checking.” He corrected himself.
A deeper frown settled on her features as the feeling of jealously pumped through her veins; Stevie. They were on first name terms already, did they have a ‘thing’? She shut her eyes and used her thumb a forefinger to rub her eyes; she was being stupid. The rapes were getting to her, she was tired after staying up late the night before and trying to link the three women who had been raped. Now she had another one to go and see. The problem was that the women had been hit over the head several times and couldn’t remember much of what had happened the night before, which really didn’t help her.
“Do you want to come with me to interview the new victim?” Sam asked.
“Sure.” He replied.
He gave her a soft smile as if knowing that she was tired and had been working hard on this case. “I’ll just get the girls details from DC Moss then come.”
Sam stood from her desk and turned the monitor off, she followed him out and grabbed her coat. Max got the correct files, without so much as a glance at Stevie. Sam wondered if he knew what she’d been thinking but then realised how foolish it sounded, he passed her the paper, already knowing that she’d probably like to catch up.
“Thanks Max,” they began to walk away together and she looked over her shoulder and called; “Thanks Stevie!”
They arrived at the hospital and easily found Daisy who was sat staring at her hands.
“Hi Daisy.” Sam greeted, he young girl looked up at her. “I’m DI Nixon from Sun Hill Police Station, this is my colleague DS Carter.”
“Hi.” She replied weakly.
“I would like to ask you some questions about your rape, if you’re okay with that?” Sam asked.
“Fine.” She replied.
“What happened before you were raped?” Sam asked.
“I … I’d been in a club with some mates.” Daisy replied, she looked round fearfully.
“Is that why you had a fake ID saying you were eighteen?”
Daisy nodded. “One of my friends got it for me, I don’t know where she got them from. Anyway, I was in this club, it’s quite an A - list place you know. To be honest, I was on the look out for footballers who could whisk me away.”
“I thought you were seeing Ashley Brooke?” Sam asked.
“No, he dumped me last month for someone a bit older. I don’t need him though, he weren’t that great. What with all the drugs, I’d had enough in the end and was glad he ended things.” Daisy explained. “Anyway, last night I got a bit worse for wear and I remember stumbling out of the club. Someone grabbed my arm, but they helped me up. I think it may have been a barman or doorman or something like that. Anyway he walked me along the road and steadied me along. I think he hailed me a cab then went back to the door. I fell asleep or something, when I next woke up my arm’s were tied above me to the wall by rope and my ankles were tied to a ring on the floor with rope. I was sat on the floor. It was really dark and dingy and I couldn’t see much but after a while the door opened and light just flooded into the room. I couldn’t see because the light was too bright though, the door shut behind someone and then … he did it.” Daisy trailed off. Her eyes prickled with tears and Sam took her hand.
“It’s okay.” Sam rubbed her thumb against the back of Daisy’s hand. “What happened afterwards?”
“Well I fell unconscious because of the pain.” Daisy sniffed. “And then I woke up because I was being moved, by this point something was over my head. A bag or something. They lead me around and there I was sitting down, I think I was in a car because I was moving and the noises. Next thing I know the car is speeding up and I’m being thrown out the side; a doctor was pulling the bag off of my face and I was outside here.”
“Okay, well we may have to interview you again at some point.” Sam told her. “Have you got any family that are on their way?”
“I don’t know.” She said, it was the first time she’d thought of her family.
“Okay, well we’ll get your details off the system and arrange it for your family to come here.” Sam said kindly.
“Thank you.”
Max and Sam were about to leave when he realised something and turned back, he spoke in his calm, even voice; “What was the name of the Club you were in?”
“Dance 78.” Daisy replied.
“Thanks, you’ve been a big help.” Max finished before he and his superior carried on.
“Well done, I didn’t think about asking her that. I probably wouldn’t have thought of it for a while either.” Sam replied.
“That’s why there’s two of us, so we can help each other out.” He replied casually.
