When Tarlach arrived home, there was a message in the answering machine.

"...Tarlach... problem... Mabi High... look out... don't follow... buzz... click!"

That was the last he ever heard of his master Mores.

MABINOGI HIGH

Piffle Prologue

Tarlach knew little about his master's detective-like trade, except that it was somewhat dangerous and often led to Mores going in and out of the house at the most random hours of the day. He knew that Mores had taken up a new case recently, which involved a high school far on the other spectrum of the land and a sinister mystery that apparently surrounded it. The message on the machine had merely confirmed his suspicions that Mores had bumped into something nasty on this job, and had not been able to make it back like he usually did.

Three months had passed since Tarlach first heard the message. High school summer vacation came and went. Mores did not show up.

Tarlach decided that he had to know what had happened.

And besides, there was no longer any food in the fridge.

When official approval for his transfer to Mabinogi High came, Tarlach was already packed and ready to go. He had been poking around the files Mores kept in his room, but did not find out anything he did not already know about Mores' latest job - except for the name of client who commissioned the case.

Morrighan.

The principal of Mabinogi High.

It would take a while to get to his new residence - a small little rented room near the vicinity of the school - so Tarlach took the time to think about what exactly could have happened to cause his master to practically fall off the face of the earth. Did he meet up with an enemy? Was he locked up or incapacitated somewhere? What was the exact nature of the mystery he was investigating this time, and was it somehow related to his sudden disappearance?

Was he dead?

Would Tarlach ever see him again?

And more importantly.

Was there air-con in the new room Tarlach was going to move in to...?

As questions continued to plague Tarlach's restless mind, the train he was on slowly rattled onwards to its final destination.

Mabinogi High.
