The Fall of Haven
Book 1
-Fallen-
Chapter 1
Jak breathed in deep, the forest air clearing his head. He unfolded his hover-board but didn’t step on. It flouted by his ankle obediently waiting for him.
The slightest tinge of smoke tickled his nose but he shrugged it off figuring it was just a stove fire from the city. He ignored the tiny voice in the back of his head that kept saying it was to big to be a stove fire.
Daxter had seemed uneasy and jumpy earlier for some reason. No body knew why, not even Dax himself. He decided he needed rest or that he was breathing too much of the Haven fumes. The city had been redone but a thick layer of pollution still hung over the city. Daxter had caught the next air-train to Spargus.
When everyone came back from Kras, Ashelin declared a permanent treaty with Spargus. Sig had taken and Ashelin invited the wastelanders back to Haven. Some complied but others like Sig, Jak, and anyone who loved the desert refused. Then Ashelin asked an airtrain hover pad be built in Spargus. They did as did Haven. When both where finished, an airtrain schedule was made. It allowed free passage to and from Spargus and Haven.
Jak lived in both cities. He had a privet residence in the higher class section of Haven and lived in his sisters room at Spargus. He rotated as called for or just went to the other just to do so.
Ha stepped on the board and it bobbed for a moment, adjusting to the weight change. He egged it onward, smiling gleefully to himself. Since the Metal Heads didn’t exists out side the Desert Clans, Haven Forest was safe. Not that anyone ever came out here. No one really knew that the Desert Clans were sophisticated. They really only fought amongst themselves. Over territory between tribes, hunting grounds, tribe merges, etc. They leave the Elvin cities alone for the most part. Only really attacking Marauders, but that was a territorial thing.
Jak heard that a young male from the Chunan Tribe got a hold of a car. It liked driving and got good at it. He went to Kras and almost won the tournament. He got disqualified for lying about his heritage.
Jak had to admit. Most of the tribes magic was mediocre compared to Zetzumie’s, but his disguise was brilliant. No one really suspected what he was till he got first on the Green Cup Grand Prix and yelled out a self congrats in his own tongue. It turned out that someone from way up north needed a translator. That guy recognized the language and made his accusation. Only Metal Heads could speak that language. So he got busted. He mangaed to get back to the desert before the other racers got a chance to kill him. Apparently, thay didn’t like being showed up by someone neither Elvin nor robotic. Jak found the whole situation very funny.
Jak missed his sister dearly. He had wished he had gotten to know her better than what he did. He got information from any one she had known when she was alive. He even traveled to the Desert Clans’ own Tritukon Tribe. The tribe that Koro and Kiva had been apart of. The largest and strongest of them all. When the found out who his mother and sister were, they welcomed him with open arms.
Lucky for Jak, Zet’s room was stacked with books and books of Metal Head languages. Sig had said there were more but he was tight lipped about it. Although he did admit that Jak should know where it is since he had been down there before. Jak cursed his pour memory. He wanted to know more about this secret library. He had searched and searched for it but only found trapdoor and hidden hallways that lead to no where in particular. A servant that had been there since Jak was a child, she was very doughty over him, said that it was protected by ancient and complex spells. Nasty curses that took day to conjure up. Shifting hallways and puzzling patterns. Zet had notes some where, she said she remember watching her write them in her pentacle while she was doing spell work but she doesn’t know where she kept them. The most likely way was the safe in her room but that was also protected with a spell.
The hover-board took off at speed over the water. He banked hard around a corner and switched direction. The air suddenly got thicker in the crevice between the rocks. The hover-board shot upward in the sudden change. Jak toppled over and fell from the board. The ground grew closer, closer, closer till thud.
