Flashback
A 9-year-old Gabriella Montez took a shaky step back, away from the older boys who were towering over her.
“All we want is your ice cream,” one of them sneered. She let out a little whimper. She turned around and started walking away, she turned her head to see the 2 boys quickening the pace. She walked a little faster. Looking for someone she knew, she started running towards the park. She heard their loud footsteps behind her and ran as fast as she could, her piggy tails flapping in the wind. As she turned around again, she didn’t notice that someone was in her path, until she was knocked to the ground. Looking up, her eyes connected with a pair of blue and she immediately knew who it was. Standing up, she ran behind him and covered her face, from the bullies.
“Brie? Are you ok?” he asked, his young voice laced with concern. She nodded silently. Her and Troy had never been the best of friends, but they knew each other.
He felt her tense up, directing his attention to where she was looking, he came face to face with 2 boys.
Panting heavily, the bigger one spoke up, “Dude, get out of the way. She owes us our ice cream.” he said glaring.
But Troy didn’t back down. Even though he was only 9 years old, he was very tall, and wouldn’t let them hurt her.
“No.”he said sternly.
The older boys looked taken aback for a moment, before the other one cleared his throat, “What did you say?”
Troy rolled his eyes, “I said, no.” He said as if he were talking to a four year old. The boys took a step forward, as did he. The older boys had nothing on him. He was as tall as them, and he met them with a cold, hard stare.
“If you don’t leave right now, I’ll make you.” He growled. The bullies looked at each other, before running back to where they came from. That kid was scary.
Troy turned around, to see Gabriella, who had watched the whole thing with wide eyes, with tears in her eyes. His eyes immediately softened as he pulled her into a hug. She hugged back. This was new for them. Sure, they knew each other, their parents were friends, they were friendly, but they didn’t really know each other.
“Brie? Are you ok?” he whispered, pulling out of the hug, but keeping his arms around her waist. She nodded, “Thank you so much Troy.”
He smiled and she returned it.
“It’s ok. What are friends for?”
End Flashback
Her best friend let out a squeal causing people in the hall way to look at the pair.
Gabriella Montez laughed and hugged her friend, “I’m happy to be back too Tay.” They pulled away and started walking towards Taylor’s boyfriend’s locker.
“So you and Chad, aye?” Gabriella asked raising an eyebrow. A lot had changed in the 4 years she had been away. Taylor blushed and nodded as a goofy grin made its way onto her face, “What can I say? He’s so sweet!” Gabriella laughed at her love-struck friend as they made their way through East high.
Chad Danforth: Taylor’s boyfriend, and also like a big brother to Gabriella. Even though the last time she had seen him was 4 years ago, from what she had heard from Taylor, he was the same old Chad.
“So what’s been new?” she asked.
Taylor shrugged, “Well, not much really. I’ve told you it all on the phone. Me and Chad are going out. Sharpay isn’t so icy, Zeke and her are going out, and Troy’s a player.”
Gabriella nodded, “Ah, still the jerk?” Taylor shrugged and looked at her best friend, “you know as well as I do that he wasn’t always a jerk.” She pointed out.
Gabriella rolled her eyes, “Puh-lease. We were 9 years old!” she exclaimed. Taylor gave her a knowing look, “Uh hmmm, sure. Whatever you say.” Gabriella playfully glared at her, before breaking out into a smile. Linking her arm through Taylor’s, she changed the subject, “So where is this boyfriend of yours?”
“Just look for the bushy hair,” she answered. Gabriella giggled, “He’s still got the afro?”
Taylor nodded, “Yep.” Suddenly, Gabriella spotted the outrageously bushy afro from a distance, quickening her pace she and Taylor stopped a few feet from him and the rest of the basketball team.
“Chadster?” she called out. He immediately turned around and a grin appeared on his face, “Gabster?” she nodded and he pulled her into a hug, swinging her up off of the floor. Squealing, she hugged him tight and he put her down.
“I can’t believe your back!” he exclaimed.
Gabriella laughed, “well I am so you better get used to it big brother,” she said nudging him. He nudged her back, “Missed ya little sis’” she giggled and looked over at Taylor. Turning back to the boy beside her, she whispered in her ear, “I think you should go greet your girlfriend now.”
Smiling gratefully down at her, he walked over to Taylor and kissed her. Blushing as they pulled apart, she hugged him. Gabriella smiled at them; she had always wanted someone to be with. To love. But with moving all the time, it was a bit hard. But, since she was here until graduation, things might change.
“Eh hem,” someone cleared their throat, she looked up to see her old friend Zeke smiling at her, “What about us?” he asked. Laughing, she went over and hugged all her old friends, Zeke, Jason, Ryan, Kelsi, Martha, and some other basketball players. Seeing, a blonde standing out of the crowd, she turned to face her, smiling.
Sharpay returned the smile weakly and spoke up, “um, hey Gabriella. Look I know i was like a total ice queen before but I’d really like if we could be friends,” she spoke quickly. Gabriella walked over to her, who was avoiding eye contact and surprising everyone hugged her. She hugged back and they pulled away, “of course we can be friends! From what I’ve heard a lot has changed. It’s all in the past.” She told her, as a smile erupted onto her new friends face. But Sharpay’s attention averted to something behind her, causing Gabriella to turn around and she came face to face to Troy Bolton.
In the past four years he had definitely grown up. Gone was the sandy blonde hair, and now he had darker hair, but his eyes: his eyes were as blue as she could remember.
Little did she know he was thinking the exact same thing. She wasn’t the little girl that wore piggy tails and needed protecting from big, meanies. No, now she wore a short skirt and her brown curls were flowing down the back of her tight shirt.
“Forget me, Brie?” he asked smirking.
Gabriella rolled her eyes, ignoring the fact he had used his old nickname for her, “How could I forget you? After all I’ve heard.”
She watched him falter for a second, before he covered it up with a knowing smile, “you’ve been asking about me.” He stated.
She smirked, “And from what I’ve heard, you’ve been asking about me.”
Which was true, he had. Taylor and Gabriella had stayed in touch throughout the four years, and every once and a while he would ask how she was, and of course, Taylor would tell Gabriella.
His eyes flicked over to Taylor, who was finding her hands very interesting. She looked up and gave him an apologetic look. He turned back to her, smirking, “Maybe I have.” Before he could say more the bell for homeroom rung, turning on her heel, she linked arms with Sharpay and they walked off to homeroom.
Troy stared after her. She had definitely changed.
AN: Well, the flashback in my opinion wasn’t very good. Neither was the ending. But, please review! And remember the poll! And anonymous reviews too!
