Okay, this is where Edward and Bella go to tell Charlie of their engagement.
I think Edward would be pretty nervous, because not only is he marrying Charlie's only daughter, but he's taking her away forever and taking away her mortality. Not that Charlie's aware of the last part. And also, I've been getting a lot about how people think that Charlie would like freak out when they told him, but I'm thinking that he knows how much Bella loves Edward. And he knows that if he turns it into a big scene, Bella will just run off on her own with Edward and never let Charlie say goodbye. But that doesn't mean she's not going to get an ear full once Edward leaves.
Edward held Bella’s hand as they walked up the path that led to Charlie’s house. He’s going to kill me, Edward thought. Or at least, he would kill me if he could. Edward wished he had the approval of her, now, fiancée’s father. The months of wedding planning would be pure hell with Charlie breathing down his neck, trying to convince his daughter to reconsider the engagement.
But as much as that bothered him, Edward couldn’t help his frozen hands burn with excitement. Bella had finally agreed to marry him. She was finally going to become Mrs. Bella Cullen. It sounded so beautiful in his head; he couldn’t wait to find out how it sounded out loud.
As they neared the door, Bella squeezed his hand, snapping him from his fantasies. Looking into her chocolate eyes, he wondered how much longer he had to see them like this. He stroked her pale skin. She kissed his frozen fingers, sending a sensation of warmth through his hand. “You ready?” she whispered, meeting his liquid gold eyes.
“Ready when you are.” Edward pressed his lips to hers and let her guide him inside.
Charlie sat in the living room, watching ESPN, as usual. As soon as he saw the two of them, he turned the volume down and opened his mouth, preparing to say something insulting to Edward. Bella interrupted him. “Charlie, we need to tell you something.”
Bella’s father tensed, as if he knew what was coming. Edward began to fidget with Bella’s fingers. He didn’t remember being so nervous before. Bella stroked his arm. “Dad,” she began. Edward could hear her heart thumping. She did a good job of hiding her anxiety from reaching the surface. Looking her father square in the eye, she opened her mouth to speak.
Charlie beat her to the punch. “You’re getting married, aren’t you?” His eyes left his daughter’s and down at his shaking hands.
“Yes,” Bella replied proudly.
“I figured you would just run off to Las Vegas and just get it over with.”
Bella left Edward’s side and walked over to Charlie. “It wouldn’t be much of a wedding if I didn’t have my father there to give me away.” She bent down and kissed him on the cheek.
She ushered Edward over to the couch. He sensed Charlie’s muscles tense. Reluctantly, Charlie met his daughter’s fiancée’s eyes. “So,” he began, “are you going to take care of my little girl?”
Edward took a breath. “Yes, sir. I’ll make sure nothing ever happens to her. I swear on my soul.” He could see Bella’s face light up; he had accepted that although he was destined to be damned for life, his soul still remained. It had to, for it now belonged to the love of his life. And it would remain hers for all eternity.
