Chapter Seventeen

When we arrived back at the camp, Alice was sitting on top of a small dead log, which I presume she found somewhere in the woods. Esme was sitting beside her, talking about getting the whole family out to do this sometime. Not as a hunting trip, but as a actual camping trip.

“Wouldn't it just be diverting to spend a week in the woods in tents and staying by a stream, sitting by the fire at night singing songs-”

“Singing songs is where I'd have to draw the line.” I announced. Esme turned to look at me, a skeptical look on her face. She didn't seem to notice our wet clothes just yet.

“Oh Edward, you know you would join in eventually, besides, Emmett and Holly would love it.”

“Yeah Eddie.” Alice said, jumping up and running over to Bella. “Wouldn't it be just like old times Bella?” Bella gave a small smile.

“Yeah. It would be fun to camp again. Plus, I'm not as clumsy as I used to be, so it'll be much better.” She turned to me, putting her hands in my jean pockets, pulling my closer to her. “You'd have fun Edward. Staying up all night, watching the stars, sitting by the fire all cozy and snuggly. . .” she trailed off, looking alluringly into my eyes.

“I don't know.” I said slowly. “We might not have any privacy when we camp.” I looked pointedly at Alice who looked away.

“You know I didn't mean to.”

“What, you didn't see it?” I asked in a low voice.

“No. I wouldn't have come if I knew.”

“I'm sure you-”

“What's going on?” Esme calm voice was confused.

“Nothing.” Alice said, turning away from me and taking her spot on the log. I looked over at Bella, who was giving me a reproving look. I sighed, looking back over at Alice.

“I'm sorry Alice. I was acting childish. I shouldn't have taken my anger out on you like that. It wasn't your fault.” I told her.

“You're forgiven.” she said stiffly. I placed the sticks in a pile next to the fire pit. I stuck a few logs on it, logs that Alice or Esme must have found, then placed some bark strips around it. Bella got the lighter out of the bag and handed it over to me. I clicked it on, and stuck it under the fire.

When the fire was nice and big, I sat down next to Bella on the log. She scooted closer to me, leaning her head against my shoulder. Alice started to think about Jasper. She missed him, she wished he was here too. I felt bad for yelling at her.

When Holly woke up the next morning, she didn't come down right away. I decided that I'd wait alittle, and if she didn't come down after ten minutes, I'd go up there.

I didn't have to go up. After a few minutes, she came down, trailing her blanket behind her. Her eyes were wide with sleep and her hair was tousled.

“Good morning kid,” Emmett said walking past her up the stairs.

“”morning person.” she replied. Emmett chuckled. Holly didn't say anything else. She just walked by us and into the kitchen. I glanced over at Rosalie who was looking sympathetically after her.

“I'll go get Emmett.” she said, and I nodded. She was gone in an instant, and seconds later she returned towing Emmett behind her. “-lonely, she needs someone to play with her. Go sit with her while she eats, then go bring her to do something? Okay?”

“I don't know.” he drawled slowly. “It's gonna cost you.” he gave her a playful smile, and she returned it, before grabbing him by the front of his shirt and pulling him close.

“Name your price, and it's done.” she growled. I could feel their lust and love, making me squirm uncomfortably. This was getting very awkward.

“Ahem.” I coughed gently letting them know I was still there. They broke apart grinning.

“Okay. I guess I'll see you guys later.” Emmett said, making his way to the kitchen.

Well, I can't say I wasn't happy when Rose told me that I should be the one to spend the day with Holly. I guess it's because we're both kids at heart, and I know how to have fun, and can offer protection in case anything happens.

Holly was sitting at the table, just staring ahead of her with a dazed look on her face.

“Hey kiddo.” I said, ruffling her messy hair. She jumped slightly before putting her gaze on me. “Are you hungry?” I asked. She nodded wordlessly. “Okay. What do you want?” I asked.

“Pop tarts?”

“Pop tarts it is!” I said grandly, going to the cupboard where I assumed the pop tarts were kept. It was fairly easy to find them. I just had to read the lables on every box, seeing as I don't know what they look like. When I found them, I pulled out a pack and opened it, bringing it over to her. “There you go!” I smiled, watching her pick it up and take a gigantic bite out of it.

“Thanks.” she mumbled with a mouth full of pop tart. Some crumbs fell out, but I didn't point it out.

When Holly was done eating, and Rosalie had her dressed and Jasper made sure she was feeling up to going out, I brought her out to my Jeep, placing her in the car seat and buckling her in. She was a little more lively now that she had eaten and was more awake. I went around to the other side of the car, getting in before she could even blink, an turned it on.

“So, are you ready to play some baseball?” I asked. Her eyes lit up.

“Baseball?”

“Yup, maybe a little football too?” I offered, remembering that I also had a football in the backseat.

“I don't know what football is, but it sounds fun!” she told me. I smiled, gaining speed. This was going to be fun.

Holly remembered how to play baseball, and she even hit a few balls within the first few throws. She had some good coordination.

“Uncle Emmy!” she called from where she was holding her bat a few yards in front of me. I couldn't help but chuckle on the inside when she called me that, it sounds like I'm a girl.

“Yeah kid?”

“Throw the ball!” I realized that I was just holding it, watching her. I threw it, apologizing as I did so. She swung hard at it, and tipped it. “Again!” she told me, tossing it back, a little lightly, so I had to reach forward. I threw it again, and she swung higher this time, missing by a few inches. “Again!” she told me, determinedly. I chuckled, catching it and tossing it again. This time she swung and hit it a good ten feet. Well, a good ten feet for her. “Yes!” she dropped the bat and began running around the make shift bases I made. I ran in slow motion to the ball, and when I reached it she was at second base. I began running at her, and she laughed madly.

“You can't win!” I told her, making my voice deep and slow, as to match my movement. I guess I was right, because she fell down into a heap laughing. I sped up and grabbed her off the ground and began running the rest of the way around the bases.

“I beat you!” she said, taking a few steps forward and stomping her foot on the make shift base we used.

“You did!” I groaned. “You beat me! I feel like I'm no good at baseball anymore. You are too good for me. I should be playing with someone who isn't as good.” I told her shaking my head. She just grinned at me.

“You're funny uncle Emmy.” she told me, her teeth showing.

“Why thank you.” I looked around for the foot ball. “How about we play some foot ball now?” I asked. She nodded, and I went to get the ball. This would be harder for her.

Ed Pov.

We finished out hunting, and were now on our way home. It was around Ten in the morning, two days after we left. Bella and I were running behind Esme and Alice, holding hands as we ran.

We were about three minutes away from home, and I was getting anxious. It wasn't until late last night that I started to get worried about Holly. She spent the rest of the day alone, the day we left, and a full day without us, and now it was morning, and she was still alone. . .but not for long.

I couldn't stop thinking about her the entire time we began our way home. Esme and Alice thought about her occasionally as we ran, but not as much as I was. When we finally reached out house, I felt relieved. I slowed to a walk when we reached the porch. I could hear someone out back, and guessed that she was outside. I made my way out back, followed by Bella.

Then I saw them. Emmett, Jasper, Rosalie, and Holly all out back playing some kind of game that involved Holly to move around with her arms out and eyes closed. I guessed that it was some sort of blind tag.

Rosalie was the first to see us, and she smiled big. She waved me over, but warned me to be quiet with her thoughts. Oh wow! It's great you're back! She's been waiting ever since you left! It was sad at first though, but it got better.

I nodded in understanding. Holly was making her way closer to Jasper, laughing, her eyes still closed. I looked pointedly at Jasper, who nodded in understanding. I went over quietly and took his place, not moving as Holly got closer. When she felt me in front of her with her hands, she yelled.

“Found you!” and ripped opened her eyes. She didn't say anything for a moment, trying to make sure what she saw was really true. Then, she screamed and flung her arms around me. “You're back! You're back you're back you're back!” she giggled, hugging me as tight as she could. I couldn't help but smile and return the hug. “I missed you! I was lonely at night!”

“I'm sorry.” I told her honestly. I was really sorry, and I missed her a lot. Bella came over next to us. Holly saw her and flung her other arm around her, still holding onto me.

“Yay!” she laughed.

I couldn't help but smile down at her, watching as she smiled brightly at me and Bella. She seemed to be more adorable than the last time I saw her.

“I have so much to tell you!” she said excitedly, then went into describing her day as fast as she could. “Uncle Emmy brought me to play some more baseball, and I hit the ball like a thousand times, and then he tought me how to play football, which I was okay at but I couldn't throw the ball cause it was to big for me to hold, and then I came back and Uncle Jasper let me watch another movie, but the first day you were gone we watched High School Musical two, and the second movie I gots to watch was Barbie Fairytopia! It was so good but Uncle Jasper didn't seem to like it too much, and then I had a hamburger for dinner, then Aunty Rosalie painted my toenails! See!” she paused to show me her bare foot, only for a moment before continuing to go one. “and then Uncle Emmy read to me like he did the night before, but he read me alonger book last night, and it was so cool and it had horses in it and they could talk and stuff!” when she stopped she breathed out big. I was rendered speachless for a moment.

“It sounds like you had fun.” Bella said.

“Oh I did, but I really really really really really missed you.” she said matter of factually, the paused. “Did you miss me?”

“Of course!” Bella exclaimed. “We missed you so much!”

“Yes we did. I was thinking about you all day.” that was true.

“Really?” she squealed.

“Of course.” I confirmed.

“That's so cool. Maybe we were thinking of each other at the same time!” she paused looking from Bella to me.

Alice appeared behind her.

“What, no hug for me?” she asked. Holly let go and hugged Alice. “That's more like it!” she sang.

“Aunt Alice, guess what?” she sang.

“What?” Alice asked. Holly reached out and tagged her.

“You're it!” and ran. Alice stood confused for a moment. Then began running after Rosalie who was standing there watching us.

“Hey no fair!” Rosalie yelled, running out of the way. “You have to close your eyes!”

“No!” Alice said laughing. “You can't make me!”

Bella laughed from next to me and joined in, pulling me with her. Then before we knew it, everyone was playing. Emmett, Jasper, Rosalie, Alice, Bella, Holly, and me. It felt like we never left.

I know you all must be sooo mad at me for abandoning this for a little. . .okay a while. . .but I had a writers block, even though I had everything planned out. . .I just couldn't get passed this part, so its really bad. Oh, and I decided that I am going to stop this in like a few more chaps once they move, and then I'm going to most likely start the sequel when she turns fourteen, and when I finish that, I might do some one shots about her between seven and fourteen (years old)
