Chapter Eighteen (Last chapter)
Leaving?!
Ed Pov
It's been a week and a day since Bella, Alice, Esme and I had come back from hunting. Everything has calmed down quite a lot. Holly's gotten used to everyone and the house. Of course, she still isn't real keen on being alone for too long without one of us with her. But we fixed that a few days ago when we began to send her to a half a day, day camp.
We bring her there from nine in the morning and pick her up around twelve or twelve thirty. At first, she wasn't really interested in going, but once she got there she made some nice friends. Rosalie was nervous of sending her at first. She thought that Holly might accidentally spill our secret. But Alice kept a look out for that happening and we reminded Holly that she wasn't allowed to tell anyone. So far she hasn't told anyone. She told us that her friends never asked about us and that even if they did she wouldn't say anything.
But now I am beginning to think that sending her to camp wasn't such a good idea, because now she is going to have to say good-bye to her friends, now that we are moving to Denali. And once again, I have been appointed to be the one to tell her. Until I convinced everyone that we should all do it together, which is why we are all sitting in the living room, Holly looking at us like someone died.
“W-we're moving?” she squeaked, her delicate eyebrows coming together.
“That's right.” I said softly. “We're moving in one week, to move up to Denali.”
“Where's Denali?”
“Alaska.” I replied slowly. Her eyes seemed to bug out of her head.
“Alaska!” she squeaked again. “That's so far away! I don't wanna move to Alaska!”
“I know you don't sweetie, but Grandpa has been offered a job up there, a job that will pay more.” that wasn't a complete lie. He was offered a job, but it payed pretty much the same, maybe slightly more.
“But—but, but my friends?” she whispered.
“You'll find new friends.” Alice told her confidently, yet softly. “Trust me.” Holly looked from Alice to me, then to everyone else. Then she left out a sigh.
“I don't want new friends.”
“Why not?” Bella asked softly.
“I like my friends right now.” I wanted to point out that she only knew the other kids for a few days, but knew it wouldn't be a good thing to do.
“I'm sure you do,” I said comfortingly. “But there may be other people in Denali that are just like some of your friends here.”
“Really?” she asked doubtfully.
“Of course! I'm sure that you'll have no problem finding friends. After all, you are a very pleasant, benignant, endearing child.” I told her. She raised her eye brows at me and tilted her head to the side.
“I don't know what that means.” she said after a while.
“It means you are a nice, kind, lovely little girl, and that anyone that doesn't want to be your friend would be crazy.” I clarified.
“Edward is right, Holly.” Esme injected. “I'm sure you'll have no problem at all finding friends.”
“But I couldn't make friends at the orphanage, so how will I make friends there?” she asked quietly.
“Holly, those kids didn't have nice families like you had before you came.” Bella told her. “They didn't know that it's not nice to exclude people because they think they're different.”
“Am I different?”
“No. You are a normal, lovely girl, and I'm telling you, there is nothing to worry about.” Bella assured her. Holly looked down at the blanket on her lap.
“I guess I can make new friends.” she whispered. “But will I be able to say good-bye to everyone and everything I will miss before we go?” she asked. I nodded.
“Of course. We can bring you tomorrow if you want. We have to start packing anyway, send everything up to Denali that way it will be there when we arrive.” Holly looked down at her hands, then back up at me.
“I wish we didn't have to go.” she whispered, her big eyes glossy with unshed tears. “I like it here so much.”
“I know you don't want to go, but its whats best for us all.” I assured her. She nodded, before getting down from the couch and heading upstairs. I looked over at Bella, and she shook her head. I looked to Esme, who gave me a sympathetic smile, then to Jasper.
“She'll be fine.” he told me, comforting my nerves.

Its been a week since we told Holly we were going to move, and today is the day we are leaving. Yesterday we brought Holly to say good-bye to all her favorite places and people. First, we brought her to the meadow, then the clearing, then to the hospital, and almost every other place in town. She went to day camp until the day before yesterday, and she stayed all day, wanting to play with her friends as much as she could before she had to leave them.
Esme felt sad for her, knowing that it must be hard to leave something behind when you had just gotten used to it. But we can all feel for her on that. It was the story of our lives.
“Can I sit at the window seat?” she asked me excitedly as we passed through security.
“You can sit anywhere you want.” I replied, smiling warmly down at her. Her eyes were shining radiantly with excitement.
“Really? Cause I've never been on a plane before, and I wanna see how small everything looks from up there! I've seen planes in the air, but never been in one so I'm really excited! Aren't you excited daddy?” She asked, talking a hundred miles an hour.
“Well, I've flown so much it doesn't have an affect on me anymore.”
“What about you mommy? Do you like flying?” She turned her attention to Bella.
“Oh yes. I prefer to fly than drive.”
“Will it be scary?”
“Well, the sky isn't clear, so it might be bumpy. I can't be the judge on whether or not it will be scary for you.”
Alice pipped up, appearing behind us. “Jeez. Can you believe that they almost made me strip down because my hair clip had metal and they couldn't figure out what it was?”
“That's why you don't wear metal when you go to the airport, Alice. Even you should know that.” I said wearily.
“Yes Edward, because we're all so perfect like you.” she said airily before hanging back to wait for Jasper and Emmett.

The plane ride was bumpy like I had predicted. Holly was clutching the armrests of her seat in fright. It was to cloudy to see the ground from where we were, which made it all the more uncomfortable for Holly. She wouldn't relax in her seat, and every time the plane dropped or shuddered, she would squeeze her eyes shut and grip tightly onto the arm rests.
I tried to get her to sleep several times, and each time she wanted me to hold her in my arms, but because of all the bumps, everyone had to keep their seat belts' on and remain seated.
But finally, after many hours of flying, we touched down at the airport located just south of Denali. Holly practically jumped into my arms once we were out of the plane, hanging on tightly to my neck.
“That was scary! I hated it! I never wanna fly again!” she told me. Bella gave her a sympathetic look and rubbed her back gently. Jasper walked over and wordlessly asked permission to calm her down. I nodded, grateful when she relaxed.
“How are you feeling now?” I asked her as we walked out of the airport. The sky was dark, it was very late.
“Tired. Hungry. Cold.”
“Oh my lord!” Esme's voice cut through the night. “Edward, you forgot to put on her jacket!”
I quickly let Holly onto the ground and looked around to see who had her coat. Jasper quickly grabbed it out of one of the duffel bags he was carrying and threw it to me.
“I'm sorry sweety.” I told her, helping her into her jacket. She yawned in response and held her arms out to me. I lifted her up and held her close. She rested her head in the crook of my neck, and was asleep before we even made it to our car (Which had been shipped along with everyone else's on a ship a few days ago).
Our house wasn't too far of a drive. We made there in a half an hour. It was a very big log cabin, that looked like it would fit several family's. Just what we needed.
I pulled into the huge driveway. Holly was asleep, so I quietly unbuckled her and cradled her in my arms. I was half way to the house when she opened her eyes.
“Are we there yet?” she asked hoarsely.
“Yes, we are. Welcome home.” I told her.
