Disclaimer: I don't own Tsubasa or any of it's lovely characters.

A/N: Not much to say about this. I was working on chapter three of "One Hundred Drabbles About Love" and one of the prompts inspired me. This one-shot is terribly short, but I think it turned out fairly decent. If you sense even a tad bit of OOC-ness, tell me in a review, please. As always, reviews are appreciated, but I won't beg. Enjoy!

There was no such thing as a silent night in the world of Infinity.

The walls were like paper - everyone could hear everything going on in the general vicinity; every word spoken and every movement made. At night Syaoran could sometimes hear muffled crying coming from the magician’s room next to his own and at other times he could hear his elder companions arguing. They would try their best to keep their voices down, speaking in harsh whispers, but every bit of it reverberated off the walls and into his ears. The arguments were sometimes different, but they always ended the same. Fai always won and the ninja would always slam the door, making the walls vibrate a little, and then it would come to a stop. What remained was the bouncing of the springs in his Princess’s mattress as she slept less-than-soundly and the thundering of engines as cars moving too fast roared down the street stories below.

As he lay on his back, staring up at the brown stains on the ceiling and trying to ignore the muffled moans and groans of the couple having sex downstairs, he wondered if silence even existed in this god-forsaken place. It wouldn’t seem so.

Eventually, his eyelids grew heavy, falling smoothly over amber eyes, and he drifted into sleep.

What could have been hours or minutes later, Syaoran woke with a start when he realized that one of his constant, lulling noises had come to a complete stop. Sakura wasn’t tossing and turning in her bed across the hall. He only had to wonder about this for a moment before his question was quickly answered .He heard feather-light footsteps on the tiled floor and the door to his room open quietly as was possible.

He didn’t speak, not even when she silently stepped in and padded across the room to his bed and sat down gingerly beside him. His eyes were wide open - she knew he was awake - so he couldn’t help but wonder why this was happening. Sakura had maintained a careful amount of distance between them from the moment his counterpart had abandoned her in Tokyo. She knew he wasn’t the same Syaoran. It was easy to imagine that she was absolutely repulsed by him - the boy with a familiar face but a foreign existence. He couldn’t help but wonder if there was any logic at all behind this impulsive change.

Suddenly, Sakura was looming over him, nearly laying on top of him. Her hands splayed across his chest and she leaned down, pressing her lips fervently to his. And as desperately as Syaoran wanted to - as involuntarily in love with her as he was - he did not respond because he suddenly understood just what it was that she was doing. She was trying to find solace in him; trying to regain the sense of comfort and safety that she had lost through him and he did not submit because he knew it would be wrong in too many ways to count. He lay still, motionless as her hands slid upward and knotted in his hair painfully, making her frustration apparent.

Finally, it became evident to her. Her lips pulled away abruptly and her eyes opened, revealing to him all the pain and regret within them. For a moment, jade bore into amber and then she was gone, rushing hurriedly toward the door of his room and slipping out soundlessly.

For the very first time, he did not welcome silence.
