Okay Sakura, breath. The brunette instructed herself calmly, although her heart was thumping wildly in her chest. She guided Mr and Mrs Li through the park, explaining them the situation with surpising pleasantness and accuracy, eventhough her mind wasn't registering any words that she voiced. She had her many years of buisness to thank for her extreme professionalism. And finally the explanations ended. "So." Sakura asked, eyeing her clients. "What would you like for your wedding? Exactly where? And if you don't have any particular idea in mind, give me exact descriptions of your dream site and my team and I will do our best to find you a place that fits perfectly with your demands."
"Who or exactly what is your team?" Mei Lin asked, impressed by Sakura's buisness, though still sceptic.
"My team, is a group of people I have personally chosen that work for me and other companies to please clients such as yourself. They are people big in the buisness, Daidouji Tomoyo, Hiiragizawa Eriol, Fujitaka Akane and myself." Sakura smiled inwardly as she saw Syaoran's eyebrows shoot up instantly.
"Hiiragizawa Eriol, Daidouji Tomoyo and Fujitaka Akane you say?" He repeated dumbly, his beautiful amber eyes scrutinizing her. Sakura fought her blush nobly.
"What is the matter darling? Do you know them?" Mei Lin asked, gripping Syaoran's arm. "Because if you do, then maybe Ms. Kinomoto would agree on a fair price with us..."
"I do not do any sort of favoritism considering the price, Mrs. Li." Sakura responded automatically, her emerald eyes hardening in malice. "Be it a world wide known entrepreneur or a long ago high school classmate." She let that sentence linger in the air.
Mei Lin sniffed her diaproval. "Darling! Do speak to her!"
Syaoran looked at his fiancée, then at Sakura who was not hiding her annoyance. "Look." she said, disgusted. "I do not care what Mr.Li will say, my opinion does not change. Either it is the price I fix or its nothing."
"Have you forgotten, Ms. Kinomoto, that we the oppurtunity to make your enterprise known world wide?" Mei Lin retorted back.
Sakura merely shrugged. "I have contacts, many contacts, I'm sure my last client would find me a relative of hers who needs a wedding. And she's an international super star." Sakura met Mei Lin's enraged gaze cooly.
But before the blue haired had a chance to respond, Syaoran stepped in. "You are certainly one of a kind in affairs, Ms. Kinomoto, we accept."
A beep was heard. Mei Lin searched her bag frantically. "Fine!" she exclaimed. "Whatever you say Ms. Kinomoto, now darling you are going to stay with her just for the time that I go to this meeting." Giving a quick peck on the lips to Syaoran and a nod to Sakura, Mei Lin sped out of the park, leaving them alone.
Shortly after they started walking. After a long silence, Syaoran laughed, causing a questioning Sakuar to look at him. "I never thought you and the others would have stuck together through high school and college."He explained.
"But here you see the proof yourself." Sakura answered evenly.
Syaoran laughed again. "Yes I do. So, you four all made yourself popular?"
"Hell no, we've got pretty good back-up, you know other people working for me, assitants, chefs, that kind of stuff."
"And you're the one who's of the buisness?" Syaoran mused.
"Yes, I thought up all of it. But don't you get the idea that they work only for me. Eriol and Tomoyo have this agency and work for dozen of other companies - only you know, they like to work for me best."
"Because you're a friend of theirs?" Syaoran asked, staring at Sakura.
She shook her head. "Gosh no, in this kind of world, friendship should be out of your dictionnary. No, they like to work for me best because I impose the best conditions at the best prices. And Akane works for me full-time."
"Weird though, that you guys stuck up to each other all this time. I'm impressed."
Sakura stopped in her tracks. Syaoran stopped too and turned around. "The hell - "he said.
"So does it matter if we stayed friends through all these years? We're not all like you you know, leaving one day to some country without a word." Her voice was accusing. "And may I add in the tenth grade."
Syaoran remained quiet for a long period of time. His hands found his pockets, and his amber eyes were fixed to the ground. Sakura, on the other hand, was watching his every moves intently.
"Well?" she urged. "What do you have to say?"
"That I never took you out when I promised to." He extended his hand to a baffled Sakura. She glanced at it, speechless, and then at him.
"You're changing the subject." she replied, blushing slightly.
Syaoran shrugged. "I'll explain everything once I take you out on that date." He gripped her hand before she could respond.
"Syaoran!" she cried out, blushing still. "You're engaged!"
He shrugged again. "So what? Its not like I'm going to try to have sex with you or cheat on my wife."
"But - "
"Oh come on Sakura. Stop acting like we were fifteen." The brunette still hesitated, broken in between taking his hand and going wherever his heart wanted them to, or sticking with her principles and backing down.
"To reminisce old times." he coaxed.
"I thought it was to pay me a date."
"Well you never know." he grinned mysteriously.
"I'm not sure this is right..."
He quirked an eyebrow. "Don't tell me you're afraid of having a date with an old friend?"
Sakura paused and thought about that. She never really liked being called a coward, much less a 'scardey cat', those terms were never appealing to her and always brought a fresh wave of anger and a new energy.
Apparently, Syaoran remembered those few details about her. But apparently, what he didn't know, was that people change.
"Sorry." was her cool reply. "But I have to refuse."
--
"Aargh! I hate him!" Sakura through a pillow angrily at a nearby wall. "Who does he think he is? Asking me on a date when he knows perfectly he's getting engaged!"
"Sakura drop it off." Came Tomoyo's reply. "You refused, you have done the right thing. I mean imagine if his wife - "
"Fiancée, I'm getting them married, remember?"
"Right." Tomoyo's eyes narrowed. "Imagine if his fiancée found you with him in a some restaurant, laughing and talking about old times. It's bye bye to your international career!"
"Yeah." Sakura said, pausing in between grabbing and throwing another pillow. "That has some sense."
"Of course it does! And it saves my poor walls from other attacks!"
Smack
"Unfortunately it doesn't save you from other attacks, Tomoyo-chan."
"You are so going to get it!"
Both girls giggled as they wrestled each other, none of them being able to take over. Finally, after some time, both of them fell in exhaustion. That was when Tomoyo's cell rang.
"Hi?" she asked, after picking it up.
"Its me Eriol."
A pretty blush dusted Tomoyo's cheeks and a smile crowned her lips. "Hey Eriol, how's it going?" Quietly, Sakura pushed her ear on the reciever, earning a 'you-are-so-immature-Sakura-we're-not-fourteen-anymore' kind of look from Tomoyo. Sakura shrugged and grinned sheepishly.
"I'm fine. How about you, not putting too much pressure on yourself?"
Sakura mimicked an 'aw thats so sweet'. "Don't worry, Eriol I'm fine. So, why are you calling?"
"You know me too well, don't you Tomo?"
"Yes I do. So, dish out, why are you calling?"
"Well, I got an interesting call from someone we both know who's inviting us to dinner with Sakura."
"Oh." Tomoyo and Sakura glanced at each other questionatly (sp?). "Well, don't leave me in the dark, who is it?"
"Syaoran Li."
Moments after the call, Sakura was fuming and had started throwing pillows against the wall again. "Argh! The nerve of that guy!"
"I think its cute." Tomoyo giggled nervously at Sakura's stare before handing her another pillow. "Well, look at it like this, Syaoran obviously wants a talk with you so badly he had to call one of his former best friends."
"Thats what makes me angry! He's much too arrogant for his own good, I mean seriously!"
"But you like that type of boy, don't you?"
Sakura halted, pillow still in hand. She stayed silent for a while, pondering what Tomoyo asked - no, stated. But, at the back of her head was a little voice that shouted, "Yes that true Sakura, no point in lying to her! She knows you and I know myself! You like that type of boys, but mostly you like Syaoran."
And the pillow finally hit the wall.
