Shikamaru thought that there might be trouble when the pair’s first introduction started with Ino’s beloved azaleas hanging mangled from his cat’s mouth. Shikamaru considered war imminent when the cat helped Ino by liberally marking her favorite scarlet stilettos.

(Ino failed to see the generosity of the act.)

“I’ve dealt with that little beast for weeks now, but I am finished! I am just NOT a cat-person, okay?!”

“Well, I’m not exactly a woman-person, but I don’t complain when you get nail polish on my scrolls…”

(Four hours of blow-drying paper later, Shikamaru thought that probably wasn’t the best reply.)

“I already do that.”

“…was that supposed to be insulting?”
