So, our schedule was planned out for the next few weeks. We spent those weeks at school during the week, making up all the work that we missed for our absence…we’re talking MAJOR bummer here. And then, every weekend, we flew back and forth to and from New York, working on our album…. which was good ‘cause on weekends, we normally do absolutely nothing but playing in the garage.
Like I said…we’re a bunch of losers. ANYWAYS….
Craziness, madness…madness, craziness….that’s all how I could describe our schedule. I just couldn’t wait until the school year was over. Unfortunately, it was only December, and we would have to wait five more months for that to happen.
But on the plus side, we would all get to spend Christmas Break in New York, doing nothing but making music…What could be better than that?
Luckily, since we were nobodies and losers, no one at school knew about our record deal. Hopefully, it will stay that way.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Everything was pretty normal for the last couple of months…that was until Randy came at us while we were in the studio with an announcement.
“Ok, ladies…I just talked with the bossman, and he is aware that you guys will be finishing school soon. And he thinks that now would be a good time to at least give you guys a little bit of limelight….”
All of us were ecstatic. Finally…we weren’t gonna hide in the shadows anymore…Three weeks from now, we were gonna be somebodies. My mind drifted off to a fantasy sequence, ya know….screaming fans, big stadium …the whole nine….
I was snapped back to reality when Selene pinched me, quickly and quietly bringing me back down to Earth.
“Ok, here’s you guys’ surprise…today, we’re gonna be working on a track with a special guest…this is actually gonna be released to the public in about three weeks, so get ready to come out of the underground. I think you guys know this girl…R&B princess Rihanna!”
I guess Randy was expecting us to be excited ‘cause we were working with such a “big star,” but obviously, he didn’t know us as well as he thought he did. After hearing the news, we were dead silent. Heather tried to be nice by showing a little bit of enthusiasm, but it was no use.
Randy scoffed.
“What’s wrong guys? I’m giving you a great opportunity here. You’re gonna be working with a big star…this could be a launching pad for your own career.”
“Randy, Randy, Randy…we’re a rock band. What is Mr. Carter thinking…putting us together?” I said skeptically.
“Um…he’s thinking like Kanye West and Timbaland…meshing two worlds together. Come on guys.”
“But I bet you we don’t get to do our own thing. And for our first single to be with someone who we’re not even a fan of? Come on, Randy.” I rebutted.
“But, Maddie…just think…we’ll be out there. We’ll have more than just a profile on MySpace. We’ll be somebodies…isn’t that what we all want to be?” Cassie remarked.
Traitor, I thought.
But then, the rest of my bandmates started agreeing with her. I seemed to be all alone in this fight. Majority ruled.
I guess I just had to swallow my pride and go with the flow.
