“Miley will you slow down?” Lilly Chescott requested desperately as her best friend Miley Stuart practically dragged her in school.
“I can’t Lilly!” Miley wrenched her friend’s wrist all the way in front of her locker. “Do you realize what day it is?”
“Yes…I’ve been dreading it,” Lilly mumbled as she tenderly rubbed her wrist.
Miley ignored the sly comment as she jerked open the door to her locker, a pink letter falling immediately to the floor. The brunette gave a small squeal as she swept the paper happily from the ground. “He wrote me again, HE WROTE ME AGAIN!”
She peeled open the letter swiftly as Lilly appeared over her shoulder and the both of them read the next message, which briefly stated:
I will be waiting for you in the science room after school.
Miley’s chipper smile then faded into disappointment. “That’s it? No sweet little rhymes or catchy similes and metaphors? My prince charming is losing his touch.”
“Maybe he ran out of material,” Lilly suggested. “You know…you’re too beautiful…for words?”
Miley’s dreamy smile formed back on her face. “Oh Lilly, isn’t he sweet?”
“Who?” The girl’s best friend, Oliver Oakin, came to stand beside the two.
“Oh, Oliver, it’s my secret admirer again,” Miley said excitedly. “I’m so excited! He wants me to meet him in the science room after school. I wonder if I know him…”
“Most likely,” Lilly blurted out.
Oliver nudged her hard against the arm. “I hope everything goes all right with you two.”
“Me too Oliver,” Miley said with a happy sigh. “Me too.”
She closed her locker and began to skip to class, humming happily to herself. Lilly and Oliver watched her go before Oliver then turned to Lilly accusingly.
“You did it again,” he said irritably.
“Sorry! You know I’m no good with keeping secrets!” Lilly stated defensively.
“I know.” Oliver put a hand to her shoulder. “Miley can’t know that it’s me, okay? Just…when she brings I up, don’t say zip, got it?”
Lilly pantomimed zipping her lips together. “My lips are sealed. I hope everything works out for you. If it doesn’t…”
“I know, I know, I’m still ‘Smokin’ Oakin’,” Oliver finished with a roll of his brown eyes. “Come on, let’s get to class and get Miley.”
He hoped that by the end of the day, he would be the one to get the diva born girl.

Miley couldn’t even concentrate in class because she had been so busy thinking about her secret admirer. All the sweet poems and thoughts he had written made her reminisce about the good times. And if he looked anything remotely like Justin Timberlake, then she’d be just fine.
Oliver had acted uncharacteristically nice to her the whole day, such as letting her cheat off his work and carrying her books for her, trying to give her a hint. But she didn’t really seem to notice.
Finally, the last bell rang, and Miley threw all her stuff together to hurry and get to the science room.
“Tell me how it goes!” Lilly called after her as she rushed out of the room.
Miley threw her hand up, signaling an okay as she ran up the stairs and around the corner. Moments later, she arrived to the now empty science room.
“Hello? Mr. Secret admirer?” Miley stood there hesitantly when she heard footsteps approaching behind her and she was just about to turn around when a pair of warm, soft hands clapped around both her eyes, obscuring her vision.
Oliver’s heart was pounding so hard in his chest that he was sure Miley probably heard it. But when he spoke, it was calm and smooth, unlike his emotions. “Hey. Glad you made it.”
Miley found that her mouth had went very dry. His voice was so collected and put a rhythm in her heart that no other could ever do. “M-Me too,” she stammered out. “I…I got all y-your letters. They w-were…really beautiful.” Don’t screw it up, Miley, don’t screw it up…
“Don’t turn around yet, okay?” the mystery man asked.
Miley nodded, too tied for words to speak. Why did his voice sound so familiar…?
“I’ve been watching you for the longest time,” Oliver told her as he took out a long navy blue box and opened it. A diamond glittery necklace with a large silver M in the middle glistened through the sunlight in the window. “I couldn’t delay telling you how I felt anymore.”
Miley opened her mouth to say something, but the hands came right back around with a diamond necklace hanging from them. Her eyes widened in surprise as the hands began to lock the necklace in place. “Oh my gosh…”
“You wouldn’t even believe the lengths I went through to get this,” Oliver said quietly, stroking her hair gently. “You like it?”
“I love it.” Miley felt happy tears rising in her eyes. “No guy had ever did anything this nice for me before.”
“I’m a different kind of guy,” Oliver boasted.
Miley nodded in agreement. “I know. So, do my eyes really glow like the moon in the midnight sky?” she added innocently.
Oliver smiled. “They do.”
“And my smile?”
“Brighter than the sun peeking over the horizon.”
Miley smiled. “You’re too sweet. You really are Prince Charming.”
“I try to be.” Oliver put his hands on her shoulder. “Close your eyes and turn around.”
Miley did as she was told.
Oliver’s words immediately disappeared from his mind. As he looked at her, the only thing he could think about was how beautiful she really was this close, and how he was so lucky to have captured himself inside the moment. Without much thought, his hand rose, and he rested it against her cheek, caressing it gently.
Miley smiled a little. “You have soft hands for a guy.”
“Thanks, I guess.” Her heart began to pound harder when she felt his hands drifting down to her waist as he came closer. In response, her hands gripped his arms gently.
“Miley…” His voice changed slightly.
“Yes?” Miley said, her own voice barely above a whisper. She could feel his breath, cool with spearmint, leaning closer to her. She felt like she knew it before, it seemed so familiar. But her brain was fuzzy and spinning around; she wasn’t even sure she knew left or right anymore. All she knew was that this was the moment she had been waiting for. He was so close, and yet, he was hesitating.
“Are you gonna…?”
His lips were then pressed to hers, cutting her off immediately from the sentence. Her hands rose absentmindedly to his shoulders as he pulled her closer. Oliver had never kissed a girl before, and Miley being the first just made everything better.
After what seemed like ages, the two of them gradually pulled away from each other, slightly breathless.
“Can I open my eyes now?” Miley asked.
Oliver knew that once she opened them, things would probably never been the same between them. He took a deep breath. “Go ahead.”
Miley slowly opened them and looked at him. Oliver waited for the look of surprise, maybe disgust…but to his surprise, the girl in front of him slowly started to smile.
“I knew it,” Miley stated proudly, a huge grin on her face. “I knew it was you. You always use the spearmint-flavored mints. Plus I recognized your voice.”
It was Oliver’s turn to look surprised. “You’re…not mad?”
Miley shook her head, still smiling. “Of course not. I noticed you were acting a little nice today, so I figured, maybe it was Oliver? And now look. I couldn’t have chosen anyone better to be my valentine.”
With that she reached for his hand, intertwining her fingers with his. Oliver openly blushed but none the less grinning from ear to ear as the two of them headed out to class.
Neither of them noticed a certain blonde just around the corner, watching them with satisfaction.
“Way to go guys.” Lilly smiled as they disappeared around the corner before going her own way, humming “Here Comes the Bride” as she too went around her own corner.
