On Any Other Day
Uzumaki Naruto grinned as he threw open the door to his apartment and yelled, “Honey, I’m hoooome!”
His welcome home present was a kunai to the face. Chuckling as he caught it between his middle and pointer finger a few scant inches before it could imbed itself into his skull, he shrugged off his boots and jacket and made his way to the kitchen, where he knew a certain dark, sullen shinobi would be nursing a cup of tea.
He leaned in the doorway with the nonchalant ease of a man perfectly at home in his surroundings. And he was. Even the ‘Die. Die now.’ vibes Uchiha Sasuke was giving off couldn’t deter him. Whistling jauntily as he made his way to the top cupboard in search of some instant ramen, Naruto glanced back at his best friend’s face of doom and held in another snicker.
“You know, Sasuke-bastard, the least you could do is thank me for letting you use my place as a hideout.”
For his troubles, he received a glare that would’ve petrified a lesser man. Naruto just grinned cheekily in response and dumped his noodles in the now-boiling water.
“Ramen?” he offered innocently, dumping his own noodles into a chipped bowl. Sasuke pursed his lips and put a great deal of effort into not throwing his tea at the blonde idiot’s face.
Moaning appreciatively around the noodles in his mouth, Naruto hurriedly swallowed and continued, “Come on, show some freakin’ gratitude! It’s not too late for me to throw you out on the street, ya know.”
The twitch in Sasuke’s left eyebrow dared him to try it. Pouting, Naruto tried another tactic. “Such a cold hearted bastard. I’ll have you know I suffered through several fangirl riots today because I wouldn’t tell them where you were…you should be falling at my feet for saving your ass!”
Sasuke snorted softly in response, taking a delicate sip of his green tea. “I don’t need your help, dobe.” He drawled, chin lifted and condescending sneer in place. “There are plenty of other places I could go.”
Naruto chewed the mouthful of ramen slowly and got up to place his empty bowl in the sink. “Course.” he frowned softly, angry at himself for feeling hurt. “I was just convenient, right?” Like I always am. The thought went unspoken.
Sasuke scowled at the blonde’s stiff back before standing up and making his way around the tiny dining table. Damned dobe never understood what he was trying to say. Scoffing slightly, Sasuke adamantly refused to acknowledge that maybe he hadn’t been very clear in his motives to begin with.
Feeling his former teammate’s presence wavering behind him, Naruto turned on the tap and sluggishly began washing the dishes that had been accumulating in the small sink for weeks. He’d so looked forward to coming home today and though he was loath to admit it, it was the thought of Sasuke waiting for him that constituted for his good mood. And now the bastard had to ruin it all by---
“Dobe.” Sasuke muttered irritably, hesitantly touching just the tips of his fingers to the blonde’s back. His uncommon uncertainty vanished when heard Naruto’s soft intake of breath and felt the sharp rise in chakra come off. Confidence returned with a side of arrogance, Sasuke boldly reached under the blonde’s arms to wrap his own around his midsection. He leaned forward and gently rested his forehead on Naruto’s shoulder with a soft sigh.
Naruto had stopped breathing the instant he had felt the five distinct pinpoints of heat on his back. Sasuke rarely, no, never willingly touched anyone, so to be embraced like this was… was too good to be true. He held his breath, afraid that even the slightest movement would scare the Uchiha back into his cold, aloof self.
“I didn’t…” Sasuke started, and was horrified to hear his voice crack. Unconsciously tightening his arms around the blonde and pressing flush against his back, he coughed and continued.
“I didn’t come here for protection, dobe.” He mumbled, rubbing his nose slightly into Naruto’s shoulder.
Stilling for entirely different reasons, Naruto took in a shuddering breath and cautiously turned to face the dark haired shinobi. Kami, please don’t let me be wrong about this…
“I came here for you.” Sasuke’s voice was as steady as ever, but the uneasy roll of his shoulders and the way his head ducked imperceptibly gave him away. He lifted his gaze to see the blonde’s reaction, but before he could, a large hand cupped his jaw, tiltled his face to the side and warm, pliable lips covered his.
His breath left him in stuttering gasps as a hot, slippery tongue moistened his lips and then gently pushed inside. He opened his mouth wider to fit the blonde’s properly, and delighted in the way their lips met and clung over and over again.
Naruto made a soft sound of enjoyment and softly tugged on the brunette’s tender bottom lip with his teeth. He lifted his mouth from Sasuke’s and lovingly breathed in the air he exhaled. He nuzzled his nose lazily against Sasuke’s cheek and was about to pull back enough so he could appreciate the light blush on his rival’s face, but before he could even properly process the thought, a hand pressed against his chest and pushed him backwards.
A startled sound escaped him before a hot mouth smothered him and a quick, slick tongue invaded his mouth. Hands possessively ran over his chest and back before coming to rest on either side of his face, tilting his head to match the other’s and forcing him to open his mouth wider. Naruto snickered internally. He’d been wondering when Sasuke would snap out of his stupor and try to gain the upper hand. He briefly debated fighting the dark haired man for dominance, but decided to save that confrontation for later.
For now, he submitted, rubbing his tongue leisurely against Sasuke’s and murmuring soft words of encouragement between kisses. As they pulled apart to gasp in a quick breath of air, he moved his mouth to the side and began rubbing his face against the other man’s, pressing warm, wet, open mouthed kisses as he went.
Sasuke took in a gasping breath, feeling his lungs expand and his heart pound and his chakra go haywire. He was drowning, suffocating, he needed air, he needed to breathe, he needed… he needed Naruto’s mouth on his again. With a sharp, urgent noise, he tugged on the blonde head in an attempt to move it where he wanted it to go, but Naruto caught his hands and stepped back quickly.
Leaning back as Sasuke leaned forward, an unmistakable look of annoyance on his face, Naruto bit his lip hard to keep from laughing at his rival’s eagerness. He squeezed one of Sasuke’s hands in apology and held the other up to his chest.
“Hold on,” he said, voice rough and husky from arousal. Sasuke’s eyes snapped up from where they had been fixated on the blonde’s mouth and narrowed in impatience.
“What should you say?” Naruto teased, blue eyes twinkling and lips tugging up in his trademark grin.
Sasuke scowled at Naruto’s underhanded tactics. Under any other circumstances, he would have told the blonde haired shinobi exactly where and how to shove it, but now… now, he just wanted that mouth. And preferably the rest of that delectable body, afterwards.
With a sharp nod, decision made, Sasuke yanked Naruto forward by the shoulders again.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, idiot.” He snapped shortly before hungrily pressing his lips to Naruto’s and effectively ridding him of that misplaced smirk, fully intent on continuing where they’d left off.
Happy Valentine’s day, indeed
