Roses Are Red

Axel - Roxas/Sora - Kairi

“Axel...” Seveteen-year-old, Fukushima Roxas sighed as he poked his best friend, Takeyama Axel.

Axel looked over to Roxas, red hair sticking out in all directions, and his emerald green eyes shining. “What, Roxy?”

“Don’t call me that.” The blonde retorted immediately.

The red head mentally smacked his forehead before continuing. “Just answer the question.”

“What is the point of that holiday?”

“What holiday?”

“He means St. Valentine’s Day.” Roxas’s twin brother, Sora, spared a glance at the two before returning to his video game. “It’s tomorrow, remember?”

“Oh, yeah!!” Sora’s girlfriend, Ueda Kairi, suddenly jumped up and ran to the kitchen. “I forgot something!!” She called. Moments later, she arrived back with a huge heart-shaped cake with red icing on it. “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

“Oh... my gosh.” Roxas slapped himself.

“What?” Kairi complained childishly. “I made it for all of us!”

“S’ok, Kairi.” Axel waved his hand dismissively. “It’s just Roxas who’s like that. Sora and I will eat your cake.”

Sora chuckled, “Anything for free food, huh, Axel?”

The red head shrugged in response. “Eh. It’s cake, and for my favourite holiday.”

“That is your favourite holiday?” The spiky blonde stared in disbelief at his best friend. “It’s too mushy and gushy. How could you like it?”

“Excuse me, Roxas.” The only female in the group cleared her throat. “I like Valentine’s Day.”

Roxas pointed a finger in her direction. “But Sora’s your boyfriend.I’m single.” He clarified.

“You can... not be single, y’know?” The blonde’s twin made exaggerations using his hands. “You could go out with Olette, you know she really likes you.”

“Yeah, but she’s more like a sister to me.”

“Namine’s your sister, and you treat her like crap. Explanations?” Sora paused his game to listen to his brother.

Roxas gave his brunette brother a sharp look. “You know what I mean.”

“Well, I don’t.” Axel raised his hand, “Mind finishing?”

“Yes.”

Roxas earned a pinch from Kairi.

“Geez, alright.” Roxas rubbed his arm before continuing. “Namine’s like a mom to me, even though she’s younger. Anyways, it’s not like we really had a mom.”

“So, you’d treat your mom like crap?” Sora interjected his previous comment.

“NO!”

“Then...?”

Roxas sighed. “She already knows I appreciate her, okay? Alright? I’m done.” He stormed to his bedroom before the other three could interrogate him anymore.

“You know...” Axel started once he heard the door slam. “Does Roxas play for the other team?”

“Roxas-... what?” Sora spat, giving the red head a confused frown.

“He means...” Kairi started fiercely, “Is Roxas gay?”

Sora let out a strangled laugh. “Are you kidding me?! Of course he is!!”

“...Wow. Sorry, Sor, but I never expected that. Ever. Not even if I was dreaming.” Axel stared blankly at the brunette.

The other male wiped his nose to stop him from laughing more. “Well, since that day is tomorrow, you’d better get your behind to the mall.”

“What... OH!” The red head jumped up quickly. “Thanks Sora and Kairi!!” He yelled as he ran out the door.

Kairi gazed at her boyfriend when the other had left. “Sora, how did you-?”

“Well, he has a picture of Axel and himself next to his bed... Plus, he never turned Axel down when he asked to hang out, when he’s done to plenty others.”

“So...”

“He totally likes Axel.” The two whispered in union, before Sora went back to his game.

“Hey! Roxas!” Axel shouted as he ran into homeroom the next day.

“Hey- Oh my gawd. AXEL!” Sora turned around just before Roxas did.

The blonde scowled.

“Axel, I’m not a girl,” Roxas stated when the said boy shoved a bouquet of roses in his face, “Besides, Valentine’s Day is for couples, not best friends.”

“Maybe I don’t wanna be best friends.” Axel gave a suggestive smirk.

“NO WAY.” The whole class joined in on the drama.

Roxas carefully took the roses out of the red head’s hands, and placed them gently on his desk. “It’s about time!!” He pulled on Axel’s shoulders and pressed his lips to the other’s.

As surprised as Axel was, he wasn’t going to let this perfect opportunity slide. He closed his eyes as he pushed back against Roxas with equal force.

Suddenly, Roxas pulled away, a blush creeping onto his soft features.

“Why’d you stop?!” Green eyes gazed at the wonderful being in front of him with complaint in his eyes.

“Everyone’s staring...”

“Let them STARE!” Axel wrapped his arms around Roxas’s waist, pulling him into a more forceful, passionate kiss. As they parted, blue eyes lost in green, Axel whispered, “I told you this was my favourite holiday.”

Roxas giggled tenderly, “And you just made it mine.”

“Happy V-Day, babe.”

“Just shut it, Axel. You’re ruining the moment.”
