Chapter 2

“Come on Yuki, it’ll be dark soon, we better get back to the school.” Zero said

Yuki nodded and the two started to walk towards Cross Academy. Zero was walking in front of Yuki, a lot on his mind.

‘Now that she doesn’t have a weapon I need to protect her more then ever now.” He thought with a sigh.

“Zero we better take the short-cut to the school.” suggested Yuki

The two were now half way to the school when it started to get dark out. Yuki and Zero heard a strange sound, but the two couldn’t tell where it was coming from. Zero’s eyes bolted around trying to find the source of the eerie sound, as a precaution he pulled out the Blood Rose, ready to fire when needed.

“Yuki get close to me.” Called Zero into the darkness.

But there was no reply from Yuki, just the eerie sound growing louder.

“Yuki, where are you.” asked Zero “Come on answer me.” A trace a fear sprang in to his voice.

Zero saw standing in front of him was a tall Level-E vampire. Yuki was being pinned to the wall next to them by her throat. Her left arm was limp, while she right hand was gripping the rouge vampire’s wrist.

“Yuki!” exclaimed Zero as he raised the Bloody Rose, prepared to fire.

A shot rang in the air, the Level-E collapsed in to dust. Yuki fell to the ground, blood staining her blouse.

“Yuki, wake up.” Chocked Zero in fear as he cradled Yuki’s limp body in her arms.

She was breathing but just barely. Zero picked her up very gently and quickly carried her to the Academy.

(Later)

Zero was sitting in the infirmary next to Yuki’s bed. Yuki’s left arm was bandaged to just bellow her elbow. Her neck was wrapped as well, thankfully not because the Level-E had bitten her, but because its claws had scratched her deeply. Yuki’s stomach was wrapped as well, Zero’s figured that the Level-E had injured her there as well.

“Will she wake up soon?” asked Zero with a sigh.

“We’re not sure yet, she may soon, or…” replied the Headmaster, truly not wanting to finish his sentence.

Zero looked at Yuki, sorrow in his eyes. Headmaster Cross walked out of the infirmary and to his office.

“I’m sorry Yuki, I wasn’t able to protect you.” sobbed Zero as a tear rolled down his face.

(Mid-night)

Zero was still sitting next to Yuki, his eyes drooping. But he resisted the urge to sleep. Then the sound of footsteps met his ears.

“You were suppose to protect her.” yelled Kaname as he grabbed Zero’s shoulder and pinned him against the wall. “I told you I was only allowing you to live so you could protect Yuki, now look at her.”

Zero didn’t do anything, not even resist the pureblood’s hold on him.

“I should kill you right now.” hissed Kaname as he held a pointed claw at Zero’s throat.

“Go ahead, but just so you know Aido destroyed Yuki’s Artemis Rod, she had no way of fighting.” replied Zero not looking at Kaname. “But you’re right I should have kept a closer eye on her.

Kaname glared at Zero then released him. He (Kaname) sat on he edge of Yuki’s bed and sighed. The pureblood reached over and touched Yuki’s forehead, his fingers brushing her skin lightly.

“I’ll deal with Aido, tell me if anything changes.” Kaname said, not looking at Zero. The pureblood stood and walked out of the infirmary.

Zero sat back down in his chair and sighed.

“You need sleep.” said Headmaster Cross from the doorway.

“I’m not leaving her side, not until she wakes up.” replied Zero, not looking at the headmaster.

Cross sighed “Well you in luck, the night class has off this week, since it’s a vampire holiday. The Day classes are shortened to make it some what fair. So don’t worry about your Guardian duties.

Zero said nothing but nodded. Te Headmaster left after he told Zero that he(Zero) was allowed to stay in the infirmary.
