As the travelers from the future faded away in a bright glowing haze, Anakin looked over at Obi-Wan, and smiled. Thanks to their friends… and his descendents… the galaxy would now be saved from decades of Sith rule.
Everyone in the room was happy, except for Master Yoda, who was shaking his head slowly. Obi-Wan was concerned. “Master Yoda… what is it?” he asked softly, so as not to be overheard.
Yoda sighed. “Destiny,” he replied simply, then walked out of the room.
Obi-Wan scowled. Master Yoda had been against changing the future, even though, if they hadn’t, it would have meant the extinction of the Jedi Order. He had insisted to them that it could not be changed, that destiny was set. Yet, they had proved him wrong, and now Palpatine was dead, and the Republic still stood. Anakin had been accepted by the Council, despite the fact they knew he was to be a father, and Padme had been elected Chancellor, an office she had agreed to take after their twins were born. Palpatine’s influence, while insidious, was slowly but surely being corrected, and they could even feel the Force brightening a bit.
So why was Yoda so depressed?
Shrugging, he bowed to Mace Windu as the Jedi Master approached. “Master Kenobi, I would like to thank you and Knight Skywalker, on behalf of the Council, for your actions of bravery… and for saving the future. We are in your debt,” he said to them, regally, and bowed slightly before taking his leave.
Anakin snuck a grin at Obi-Wan as he left. “Obi-Wan… if you don’t mind… I do have somewhere I need to go…”
Obi-Wan smiled mischievously. “Go check on your wife, Anakin, and tell her I said hello,” he said warmly. Anakin nodded, and left, smiling happily.
