Okay, here’s a little background info on the decision to create this fic: After I read the 6th book (which is also when I was introduced to listen to the little thing on my profile that tells you otherwise, since as I said on my profile, I used to be under a different penname), I decided that I liked only the canon pairings and that nothing else would do it for me. Then I loosened up a little once I looked more at and saw the wide diversity of pairings. I started to become okay with certain pairings, this one included, while still preferring the canon pairs. But, a couple of days ago, I decided (for reasons unbeknownst to me) that I didn’t like Ron at all, unless he was being used in a retarded sense, like I use him in my Funny Fics story. Therefore, by not liking Ron, I no longer liked the Ron/Hermione pairing. Now, I prefer Hermione/Draco, and I decided to write this fic to get myself in the D/Hr sections of this beautiful website. This is also helping myself transition from one pairing to another, so there will be small amounts of R/Hr at the beginning, but I promise that it will end up being only D/Hr by the time it ends.
To those of you who read my little (yeah right) paragraph there, I thank you, and now present you with the first chapter of my fic. To those of you who didn’t read my paragraph, but rather just skipped over it, I present you with the first chapter of my fic. One more quick note: This fic will remain nameless until a later chapter when the perfect name pops out at me, like I know it will. Thank you for reading (or not reading).
The Fic That Is (So Far) Nameless
Chapter 1
Hermione walked alone along the dark road, with no idea where she’d go. She tried to fight back tears as she remembered why she was where she was. Was it truly her fault that she’d stopped loving Ron? How could she deny what was in her heart? Sure, she’d felt a connection with Ron on the first day they’d met, and had told him that many times over the 3 years they’d been together after their last year of Hogwarts, but what if that connection was purely one of friendship?
After all, if she were being honest with herself, she’d also felt a connection with Harry, which she now classified as friendship mixed with the love a sister feels for her brother. Even though Hermione wasn’t in any way related to Harry, they’d spent so much time together (with Ron, of course) that is was as if they were. Could it not simply be the same with Ron?
She shook her head. No, she knew that wasn’t true. She knew that she’d loved Ron as more than a friend, probably starting in their fourth year. So that wasn’t it. Could she not have just fallen out of love with him? She knew it was possible to do. She’d tried to explain all this to him, but he’d just refused to listen to her. He had said, “But Hermione, how could you not love me? We had something special!”
She’d tried to explain that she couldn’t control what her heart felt, but that hadn’t worked either. He’d just looked hurt and closed the ring box, putting it back into his pocket and sitting down. The hadn’t said much through the remainder of the dinner, but at the end, finally said, “Why didn’t you tell me before this? It would have saved me from feeling like an idiot.”
And before she’d been given the chance to tell him that she’d only noticed this change a couple of days before, and that she’d thought she’d been imagining things, he’d put his half of the money on the table and left. Hermione had been left with no choice but to pay the rest, get her coat, and leave.
That was how she’d come to be walking in the middle of the night, wearing a knee length scarlet dress with golden high heels and jewellery to match. She was so absorbed in her memories that she didn’t notice two things; one was that it’d started to rain, and the other was that she’d turned down a dark alleyway.
“Hey, sexy,” she heard from behind her. She turned around and saw a very drunk looking man eyeing her almost hungrily. “What is a pretty girl such as yourself doing out this late? Want some company for the night?” He winked seductively at her, and her eyes widened in fear. She turned and ran, looking for a house, any house, that had lights on in it. Her jacket flew off of her in a sudden gust of wind, and she stopped to take off her shoes in order to run faster. Hermione looked behind her to see the man still in pursuit, taking advantage of her momentary stop to get even closer. She screamed and ran on, leaving her shoes behind. Finally, after what seemed like ages, she saw a giant mansion with all its light still on. Not caring who lived there, she ran up the steps and pounded on the door. It opened to reveal Draco Malfoy standing there. He looked surprised.
“Granger?” he asked. “What are you doing here?”
Hermione looked behind her. The man was almost at the path leading to the mansion, and he was running fast. She turned back to Draco. “Please, Malfoy let me in! There’s a drunk man chasing me, and I think he wants to rape me, and-“ Before she could finish, Draco grabbed her arms and pulled her inside, closing the door and locking it. He held her in his arms, and the last thing she saw before fainting was his eyes full of concern.
Well? How is it so far for my first D/Hr fic? This was really just an introduction to put in most of the storyline so far, and explain what had been happening. If anybody can help me come up with any names for the fic, that’d be greatly appreciated. Review!
