Nothing would stop him; nothing would stop Sirius crying that night, the Doctor would come in occasionally to check on his son but would not attempt to calm him in any way as it would just have made matters far worse than they already were, however time drifted on and although he tried to ignore the protests of his infant son he just couldn’t. So he carefully reached into the crib and retrieved the crying baby, holding him with such care that the boy could have easily been mistaken for the most precious individual in this or any other galaxy, which was exactly what he was in the eyes of his father.

In time, Sirius’ cries died down and the Doctor was finally able to rest with his son placed safely on his chest, the boy’s gentle breaths soon lulled the already weary Time Lord into a deep sleep.

He stood in some sort of silver paradise so assumed that he was dreaming at least he hoped he was dreaming for otherwise this would be a seemingly strange reality.

Three wolves appeared out of nowhere and headed straight towards him but before they could reach him, the Doctor took several steps back and to his amasement the wolves advance stopped. The leader of the pack who was a large grey male carefully sat down beside his partner who was equally as large but had the most beautiful golden fur that the Doctor had never seen in this species before, finally the smallest member of the pack came to snuggle up beside his parents and the Doctor noticed something that he had missed before; these wolves seemed strangely familiar to him yet he was sure that he had never seen them before. Then a thought hit him what if these creatures were not wolves at all? What if they were people or at least meant to symbolise people, meant to symbolise himself and his family. He would have thought on the matter a little more had it not been for Sirius who started to cry once more but stopped again once he was awake, he then cuddled the little boy, put him back in his crib and took down a picture that hung from the wall before switching off the light and exiting the room. He returned to his own room and placed the picture on the bedside table whispering to it “Someday I’ll reach into the abyss and bring you home” before returning to a well-deserved rest.
