Watching Over You

Chapter One: Team Dynamics

Non-Massacare Canon ; They would always remember their first training session, because it was the day Sasuke learned to play nice, and they all learned not to skip breakfast. Team 7 dynamics

Haruno Sakura had been quite pleased when she had found out she was on the same team as one Uchiha Sasuke, and slightly perturbed as to why Uzumaki Naruto was excited to have her on his team.

Sasuke had scowled at them both and Sakura had felt just the slightest bit of irritation flare up in the back of her mind. The strong inner persona of her subconscious growling, did he think he was above them?

But Sakura merely blushed slightly and turned away, yes, she had a crush on the Uchiha, what with the way he looked, the perfect features of his clan etched deeply into his heritage and blood. He was a twelve-year-old girl's perfect crush.

You could just ask anyone in the classroom.

Sakura glanced behind her at her blonde friend Ino who was sighing wistfully while daydreaming, staring unseeingly at the chalkboard down in front while they listened to Iruka rattle off something or another about what a 'shinobi should aspire to be' now that they had graduated.

Sakura turned her attention to the brown haired man at the front of the room and tried to listen to him, to no avail, instead her thoughts began to drift and before she knew it they were standing up to go to the individual rooms to meet their sensei.

Sakura flushed as she glanced, angrily once again at the clock ticking away above the smaller classrooms chalkboard. Naruto was beginning to get impatient, which was amazing considering a staggering two hours had passed since the last sensei had come to meet their team.

Looking around the room Sakura recognized it as the room she had first seen Ino in. The girl had come to Sakura after a particularly nasty bout of bulling that had left Sakura crying. To this day Sakura looked to Ino for support, but she had become much stronger since she was young child getting picked on at the playground.

The pink haired girl had aspired to beat her blonde friend and her blonde friend had taken up the challenge. When Ino had mentioned her crush on the Uchiha Sasuke Sakura had blushed and mentioned she thought he was rather cute.

Ino had grinned and told her that she was now her rival in love as well, even though Sakura was much too shy to act on it.

But that had been when she was much younger. The now twelve-year-old genin was much more outspoken, but not so much as Ino, Sakura was also slightly more violent then Ino… though Ino had chalked it up to all those years of being picked on.

Sakura was snapped out of her thoughts when a giggling Naruto grabbed an eraser from the chalkboard and preceded to set up his prank, Sasuke scowled something fierce and Sakura wondered what had him in such a bad mood, he had graduated with top marks in his class.

"You idiot, no self-respecting jounin would fall for that trick."

Naruto scowled at the bad tempered Uchiha and Sakura once again wondered what could possibly have made him so grumpy. Frowning at the thought Sakura glanced at the eraser Naruto had stuck between the door.

"He's right you know," both boys turned to look at her, it had been the first time she had spoken since they had been assigned teams.

Sakura flushed slightly in irritation at the 'duh' look on Sasuke's face, he was really beginning to make her mad! What had she ever done to him, she was just agreeing with him the- the jerk!

Biting the inside of her cheek to calm herself down she turned her attention to Naruto to find herself fully distracted by the sound of footsteps coming down the hallway.

Naruto immediately jumped up and scooted the chair he had been using back to the desk jumping up on said desk to take a seat on the edge.

Sakura swung her legs slightly and cocked her head to the side as a shadow descended in front of the cracked door.

Long pink hair fell over her shoulder as she watched with mild fascination as a head popped in the moment he opened the door.

"PLOP"

Emerald eyes stared in surprise at the white haired man, Naruto popped off his desk and laughed in glee, "Haha, he fell for it!"

Sasuke gave the white haired man such a disbelieving look Sakura almost thought it rude, "Well, well, well, my first impression of you all… I hate you."

Naruto immediately stopped his laughing, Sasuke's eyes narrowed and he scowled, obviously he really didn't give a damn. Sakura however, couldn't believe it, this was her team leader?

"T-that's not fair!" The males turned to regard Sakura, she hoped down from the desk she had been sitting on and pointed an accusing finger at the tall form of the jounin she assumed to be her sensei, "That's not fair Mister! You totally fell for that on purpose!"

Her only response was an upturned eye and more irritation was pushed to the back of Sakura's mind.

"Well, I suppose I should introduce myself, I'm Hatake Kakashi your Jounin-sensei, I'm required to find out a little more about you, like your hobbies, interests, blah, blah." Sakura could just tell the sliver haired man was so interested in his job.

Naruto scratched his head, "Hey, why not help us out here sensei? Like by going first?" Sakura nodded her head in agreement.

The sliver haired jounin sighed, "Right, as I said I'm Hatake Kakashi and I'm the type of person that doesn't like talking about his likes or dislikes, my dreams are none of your business and I have lots of hobbies…"

Sakura was beginning to think everyone was out to annoy her, stifling down her irritation she curled her toes in her black ninja shoes. "Right, so let's start with you, blondie."

Naruto was too excited to start to be annoyed at the jounin, he was also too excited to notice the calculating glint in Kakashi's eye, Sakura, however noticed, and had Sasuke not been looking like he would rather be any where but here he probably would have noticed as well.

"Right, my name is Uzumaki Naruto and I like Ramen!" Sakura drowned some of Naruto's existent ranting about ramen out until he got to something she didn't recognize as having anything to do with ramen. "My dream is to one day be a better shinobi then the Hokage! Then all the villagers will have to acknowledge my existence."

Haruno Sakura was actually a very nice person, if you could get past her sometimes violent spurts of irritation or quiet contemplating nature or frightening, protective best friend, so when she heard Naruto's words she felt a twinge in her heart strings, making a mental note to be nicer to the blonde hyperactive ninja, even though she had never actually been mean to him in the first place, having suffered years herself from bullies…

It would still be nice to make a point of smiling at him more often.

"Right then, next."

"Whatever, my name is Uchiha Sasuke, I hate sweet things, I like training, I don't like wasting time, and I don't have any dreams, my goal, however, is to surpass my brother."

Sakura glanced at Sasuke curiously, she had heard he had a brother from Ino, of course the girl had been too busy gushing to tell Sakura anything significant, but still.

Suddenly Sakura's incredibly sharp mind picked up on why Sasuke was so grumpy, she had heard from Ino that Sasuke's brother had graduated top of his class at the mere age of 7!

The pink haired girl had been amazed at that, but that was beside the point! If it was Sasuke's goal to surpass his brother then of course he'd be upset to be so far behind him already.

Having no siblings Sakura didn't truly understand the significance of surpassing someone older then you and in the same family but still...

"Hmm, and finally, our young lady."

"Sakura-chan?" Naruto called to the spaced out pink haired girl.

Sakura snapped to attention, pink hair fluttering around her as she flushed slightly at being caught with her head in the clouds and off guard, "Erk, umm…"

Sasuke gave her an annoyed look and she flushed further, why she oughta…

Hit him! Just once real good! And he'll never give us that look again!

Sakura puffed up slightly and ignored her inner urging to hit the Uchiha boy, he may be cute but he was such a jerk!

"My name is Haruno Sakura, I guess I have a lot of likes, ummm," Emerald eyes narrowed some, "I don't like bullies, or people that think they're better then other people," Sakura had purposefully thrown that last one in there for someone inner cough. "Let's see, umm, my dream… I guess I don't really have a dream…"

"Right then, now that that's out of the way, tomorrow we begin training…."

Sakura was mentally debating with herself again.

What to do, what to do?

She glanced over at Naruto who was tapping his foot impatiently on the ground, Kakashi-sensei was late again. It had already been an hour and a half, Sasuke was brooding under a tree away from the two of them who were waiting in the clearing by the memorial rock.

Sakura glanced around her again with a sigh, if everyday of the rest of her ninja career under her sensei was going to be like this she was going to have to get a new hobby.

Like contemplating how to teach our new sensei a lesson in manners, CHA! Sakura mentally agreed with that one. But how to go about teaching a jounin manners was beyond her.

A sudden poof alerted her to her sensei's arrival.

"Good morning students."

-----------------

Sakura shifted under the bush she was hiding under, after watching both Naruto and Sasuke get their respective butts kicked she was beginning to think it was a completely hopeless venture to try and fetch the bells. She knew none of them alone could defeat their new sensei, heck, she doubted that any of them together could defeat him.

Glancing to the spot Sasuke had just been pulled under, she watched as Kakashi pulled out his book and made his way back towards the memorial stones general area.

Sakura pulled back out of the bushes, and after checking to make sure the coast was clear ran forward towards Sasuke.

Stopping in front of him as he pulled himself up Sakura reached out to give him a hand, "Sasuke-kun-"

"Don't bother!" Sakura jerked her hand back as Sasuke snapped at her, he pulled himself completely from the ground where Kakashi-sensei had just pulled him under, she understood his urk but-

"I was only trying to help-"

"If you want to help, try and get a damn bell!" Sakura frowned again, why was he so arrogant? Sure she knew he was an Uchiha, the famed clan was legend in the village, she was also aware that Sasuke was the second son of the current clan leader but that gave him no right to be downright mean to her.

"Look, I was only going to suggest working to-" "Why would I want to work with you when you haven't done a thing to- SMACK!"

HELL Yeah!

Sakura didn't know who was more stunned, him or her, however her shock at her actions quickly wore off, "How dare you! You don't even know me! I was only going to suggest we find Naruto and work together! It’s the only way we stand a chance against a jounin of such caliber! But you're too arrogant to even hear me out! I really hate people like you who look down on other's just because you think your better, well news flash you aren't!"

The look of shock on Sasuke's face was quickly replaced by a scowl; the flush that covered his face was one of pure embarrassment at his words and actions. Sakura was so huffed up she didn't even realize Kakashi was behind her until his hand fell on her shoulder.

Letting out a surprised squeak she jumped in her skin, spinning around to stand by Sasuke who had withdrawn a kunai.

Kakashi smiled with his eye, the mask's shadows showing only the slightest hint of a smile, "You know, with all this yelling you went and gave away your position, can't have that now, no matter how right our young lady is."

Sakura flinched expecting some sort of attack, Sasuke eyed him wearily as he pulled out his little orange book, it took only a moment for them to realize he was done with whatever it was he was doing and was now ignoring them, "Um, Kakashi-sensei…" Sakura tried cautiously, "Hmm?"

"Um…"

Kakashi glanced up at her and smiled, "Oh, right, you all pass, you might want to go untie Naruto now."

Silence greeted him.

And so it came to pass, that Team Kakashi aka Cell 7, was born, all do to female irritation and crabbiness sprung on by not eating breakfast.

Sakura never did like training with her boys, it always made her want to pummel something.

This was the beginning to beautiful team dynamics, Ha.

Yeah right.

CHA!
