Chapter 1

“And that was ‘Sorry’ by Buckcherry” I said into my mike in the radio booth. I’m Max, well, Maxine, a 21 year old radio DJ for a well known LA radio station.

“I have some guests in the studio with me today, The Jonas Brothers, Kevin, Joe and Nick” I continued

“Hi” they all said politely

“How are you guys?” I asked

“We’re great, how are you?” the oldest, Kevin asked

“I’m awesome, now, you guys are in the midst of your first major headlining tour, how’s that going for you?”

“It’s great; it’s so cool to see so many people show up at a show for us” Nick said

“So, we’re gonna play a game” I said adjusting myself in my seat

“Yes! I love games!” Joe exclaimed

“Right, well we’ve been taking questions all morning from people calling in so what you do is when I ask a question you need to buzz in and the first person to buzz in gets to answer, but if your brothers disagree with what you say then you lose your turn, if you get out the correct answer fast enough you get a point, also, you have to wait for me to finish reading the question before you can anser or your answer won't count...ready?”

“Oh yeah!” Joe said excitedly

“Alright, first question: what was your first CD, tape, record, or whatever that you bought?”

Joe buzzed in first

“Britney Spears” he shouted

“Is that true boys?” I asked the other two

“Oh yeah… but where he bought it is the best part of the story” Nick said

“Where did you buy it?”

“A 7-11” Joe said sheepishly

“Very nice, alright, what is the craziest thing that has happened since the start of your new tour?”

Kevin buzzed in

“We had a bra thrown on the stage a couple nights ago” he said

“Really?”

“Oh yeah, it was weird”

“So, what is the weirdest thing anyone has ever asked you?”

Nick buzzed

“We get the boxers or briefs question a lot, which I can never get used to, but I would say the weirdest would be one time a girl asked of she could have my omnipod” he said. Questions went on for a while.

“Alright, so the winner of this game is Kevin!” I said

“As it should be” he said confidently. I laughed at this

“Alright, that’s it for me today. I’ll leave you with ‘SOS’ by the Jonas Brothers” I said pressing the button on my switchboard. I took off my headset and stood up, making my way out of the booth

“Thanks so much for coming in today guys” I said shaking their hands

“It was our pleasure” Kevin said. My boss rounded the corner with a huge smile on his face

“Just the girl I was looking for” he said smiling

“What can I do for you George?”

“You can review the play list for Monday’s show and the songs with the stars beside them have to be played”

“George, they all have stars beside them”

“Well, then you can just choose the order”

“Do I have to play these, I mean, isn’t anyone getting tired of Soulja Boy yet?”

“This is what the people like”

“George, I don’t want to toot my own horn here, but the people like what I tell them to like… it’s been proven”

“I’ll make you a deal, you play my playlists for the next two weeks without complaining and you get a show to yourself, then if people like it we’ll re-evaluate”

“Make it two shows”

“Fine, for data purposes”

“Pleasure doing business with you George, I’ll be back Monday at 11” I said winking and clicking my tongue at him as I made my way to the elevator. It was closing as I was coming down the hall

“Hold it!” I yelled picking up my speed down the hall. It just happened to be the Jonas Brothers who held the elevator for me

“Thanks” I said as my cell phone rang

“Max speaking” I said

“Hey Max, its Blair” he said

“How’s it going?”

“Good, real good… so I was wondering if you wanted to go out to dinner tonight?”

“Ooo, sorry Blair, but its Friday and Friday’s girl’s night”

“Well, where are you ladies going to be?”

“Not gonna happen Blair, I’ll call you”

“You better babe” he said. I shut my phone.

“So, you guys are doing a show tonight?” I asked, even though I knew they weren’t

“No, tomorrow night” Nick answered

“Right, I think I have to take me little sister”

“Really?”

“Yeah, we got front row tickets, perks of being the best DJ with the station” I said confidently

“Cool, we’ll keep an eye out for you” Joe said suavely

“Sweet, so some people I know are hitting this sweet club on fourth tonight… it’s always a good time; you guys should check it out”

“None of them are twenty one” a voice came from behind me. I turned to see their father standing with his arms crossed

“Wow, from polite to inappropriate in .2 seconds” I said under my breath as my face burned. Thankfully the elevator dinged signally we were on the ground floor. I left the elevator quickly as I texted my sister

Elle! How old are the Jonas Brothers?

I was surprised to see that she replied so quickly

Nick- 15, Joe- 18, Kevin- 20… are you still coming to get me for lunch?

-Ella

Yep… meet me out front

I hopped in my car and made my way to my sister’s school. My sister and I are really close. She’s 16 and lives with me in my two bedroom flat. We are really similar, we have the same taste in music and movies, we have the same style and we’re the same size so we share everything in our closet, and we both have overconfident personalities

“Hey Max” she said excitedly as she hopped into my car

“Hey Elle… do you have to wear your cheer outfit all the time?” I asked her

“Well, today is double PE day and you know I get out of PE to cheer”

“God, don’t remind me” I said shuddering

“Come on Max, you know that it’s not just air head routines, we’re serious gymnasts”

“Gymnasts who yell ‘2, 4, 6, 8… our team is great, so don’t be… late?’” I said

“I’m not even going to argue with you about this… again… so, how was your interview with the Jonas Brothers?”

“It was good, they’re really nice guys”

“So are you like friends with them now?”

“I can’t even look at them anymore”

“Oh no, what did you do?”

“I might have asked them to go to the club tonight overlooking the fact that none of them are 21 yet and their father was right behind me”

“Why do you embarrass yourself like that?”

“I don’t know… it’s just something I’ve always been good at” I said parking outside the café where we always get lunch.

“Speak of the devil” I said under my breath as I saw the Jonas clan sitting right beside the table Ella and I always have. Some crafty flirting with the waiter that always works weekday lunches and he never cleans the table until we walk in the door so no one sits there.

“Hello girls” he said

“Hi Derek” I said flipping my hair over my shoulder and pushing my oversize sunglasses onto the top of my head. He gulped and looked down at wiping off the table

“The usual, ladies?”

“Of course” Ella said as we sat down.

“I think I’ll take him out on a date soon, my conscience is catching up with me”

“That’s it Max, you have to introduce me to the Jonas Brothers… they keep looking over here” she said. I turned a bit in my chair and Kevin gave me a friendly wave. I smiled and waved him over. He excused himself from his table and walked over to us.

“Hey Max” he said

“Hi Kevin, this is my sister Ella” I said

“Nice to meet you Ella” he said. Ella just smiled shyly and waved; sometimes there was no denying she was 16.

“So, I was thinking if you want to go the club tonight, I could get you in, even though I know you’re only 20”

“I would love to, but it’s probably not the best idea… you know for my image”

“Right, well that’s too bad” I said

“Yeah it is” he said. I went into my purse and pulled out a pen. I took his hand and jotted my number on his palm

“You know, in case you change your mind” I said giving him most best flirty smile. He gave a slightly confused look before walking back to his table

“You are such a whore” Ella said rolling her eyes at me as our food came

“I’m just living up my youth” I said shrugging. After lunch I gave Ella a ride back to school and then retreated to my apartment. I dropped my keys and purse on the table beside the door and went to take a shower. When I got out of the shower I had a message on my phone. It was from my friend Samantha

“Hey Max, its Sam, I’m calling to tell you that everyone is swamped tonight so girls night is postponed. You can still go to the club, but none of the ladies are going to be there. Sorry babe”

I deleted the message and then I almost dropped my phone because it started ringing

“Max speaking” I said once I regained composure

“Hi Max, this is Kevin… uh, Kevin Jonas”

“Hi Kevin, what’s up?”

“I was just calling to see if you wanted to go out to dinner Sunday?”

“How about tonight? My plans were kind of squashed”

“Um, sure, I’ll pick you up around 7?”

“7 sounds great, I’ll see you then” I said. I gave him directions to my apartment and hung up my phone. I tossed it onto my bed as I went to my closet to put on some clothes. I just put on a pair of shorts that had my high school name across the butt and a t-shirt as I looked to see what I could wear out that night. I was picking through my closet when Ella came home

“Max?” she said

“In my room” I said back. She came into my room and fell onto my bed.

“What are you doing tonight?” she asked

“I’m going out”

“With the girls or a date?”

“A date… what about you?”

“A date”

“Ooo, who with?”

“Jack Fraser”

“Football or basketball?” I asked knowing that Ella would be dating some sort of jock

“Track and field” she responded

“Is he cute?”

“Yeah”

“Is he smart?”

“Quite”

“What do you think of this?” I asked pulling out a royal blue maxi sweater

“I like it… wear it with your black leggings and your blue pumps” she said just glancing up for a second

“Thanks, when are you going out?”

“He’s picking me up at 7, when are you going?”

“He’s picking me up at 7 as well”

“That’s potentially weird”

“Oh well, that’s just our charm”

“Yeah, hey can I borrow your silver flats?”

“Sure, they’re in the hall closet”

“Great, well, I need to go pick an outfit” she said getting off my bed and leaving my room. I put my died light orange hair in loose waves and put on some make up. I didn’t bother changing yet because it was only 5 o’clock when I was ready. I was watching MTV with Ella when 6:55 rolled around

“Time to get dressed” I said picking myself up and going to my room. I got dressed and did one last check of my hair and makeup when Ella yelled into my room

“I buzzed Kevin and Jack up”

“They got here at the same time?” I said opening my door while slipping on my shoes.

“Yeah, it was weird” she said. I was reapplying some lip gloss when there was knock on the door. I opened it and Kevin and Jack were standing in the doorway

“Hi, uh come in” I said moving to the side as they both stepped into the apartment

“Max! Silver clutch?” Ella yelled from her room

“In the kitchen!” I yelled back. She ran to the kitchen and grabbed the bag putting her wallet and some other stuff in it

“Alright, be back by 12 Elle” I said

“Got it, bye Max” she said leaving the apartment with Jack

“Ready to go?” I said to Kevin

“Yep” he said following my closely out the door.
