Gohan opened a swollen eye. “Are they off?”

Piccolo nodded and helped him to his feet. “They were headed for the woods.”

Gohan stretched his aching arms and scratched the back of his head. “Well, it’s about time! Trunks owes me for letting him knock me out like that. I’ll have to give him a real beating sometime this week to put him back in his place.”

Vegeta smirked. “He deserves it for all the time he’s wasted on this damn thing. Did you know that he was actually considering not claiming her after all? Honestly, I think our children are the densest pair of Saiyans I’ve come across. They make Kakarot look like a genius!”

Gohan chose to ignore the snide remark. “How’d Pan take her beating?”

“Remarkably well. Her form is a little sloppy, but that’s to be expected from two years of no training. Overall, I’d say the brat has potential.”

“Would you now?” Piccolo sounded pleased.

Vegeta waved his hand dismissively. “For a third-class.”

“Wow, Vegeta, that means a lot coming from you,” said Gohan. “Are there any other feelings of approval or good will you want to express? Better get them out now before you ruin your reputation.”

Vegeta huffed and walked away from them stiff legged. “As much as I enjoy your brainless chatter, weakling, I’ve got to be going,” he growled. “There’s a pan of brownies at the house that has my name on it, and I have no intention of letting them go to waste.” He took off in a blaze of ki, vanishing beyond the peaks within a matter of seconds.

Piccolo turned and gave Gohan a sly look. “You know, I think Trunks gave you a little more trouble in that fight than you’re letting on.”

Gohan grinned vacuously. “Well, it was certainly disconcerting having to face someone who blended Vegeta’s and Goku’s fighting styles, not to mention that he’d been doing nothing but training for two years. Sort of threw me for a loop, you know?”

“I’m guessing you won’t be putting Trunks ‘back in his place’ later this week.”

“Don’t want to ruin the honeymoon!”
