Hey peoples!
Holy frickin shat. Sorry for the long wait on this humnaxhuman oneshot collection. Beh, I'm horrible.
Anyway, here's the first oneshot for it, which is HarleyxMay. I somewhat like how this came out, although it didn't go as according as how I planned it to go. Ah well, I can always write a better one later...

Harley Davidson didn’t like hearing bad news, which meant that he was furious when he learned that he had failed to surpass the next round for the contest. He also didn’t like the fact that his rival, May Maple, had gotten past it with flying colors, and the amethyst-haired eighteen-year-old couldn’t help but shoot deadly looks towards the brunette-haired teenager, who only returned them with devious smirks that seemed abnormal when it came to her usual nice and spunky behavior.
Then again, he was just happy that his other rival, Drew Trandafir, had decided to skip out on this contest for reasons he said he wasn’t ready to tell May of yet. Of course, Harley knew these very reasons, and he had known them ever since he caught sight of the said chartreuse-haired coordinator in a motel room making out with none other than Brendan Birch. Who knew that one of the most loved ‘hot’ coordinators out there would turn out to be homosexual?
Harley was never the type to judge people entirely, and when he didn’t despise Drew, he was happy for him for finding love. He was still wondering how May would react when she heard the news herself; but, out of respect, Harley decided it to leave Drew to inform her of it when he was ready.
Until then, though, the amethyst-haired coordinator leaned against the wall, crossing his arms, metallic-green eyes eyeing May from across the room with interest. He had never thought about it that whole much, but the said sixteen-year-old had always been predicted to get together with either Drew or Brendan, or as apposed by Coordinating Monthly magazines, but seeing as how those two were out of the picture, where would May go?
Would she fall in love with someone else, perhaps?
Harley couldn’t help but find such a conclusion somewhat unbelievable, as May had shown large amounts of affection towards Drew, which he only returned with a friendly hug, completely oblivious to the real intention behind May’s actions. It was the same with Brendan.
For some reason, Harley felt a slight pinch of worry build up from within his gut, forcing him to bring his clenched hand to his side. Was he…concerned for May? He couldn’t possibly be!
Then again, he would rather have the pain in his side be worry than appendicitis…
The amethyst-haired coordinator grunted to himself. Harley was certain May wouldn’t spend the rest of her time alone, seeing as how she held a determined attitude to never give up, strength to fulfill her dreams, and charm that made any guy fall head-over-heels in seconds.
She was practically a girl everybody loved.
Harley’s eyes flickered to the ground, gaining a serious look among them.
…loved?
He could feel his cheeks grow warm, and when he realized that he was blushing he struggled to hide it from any passing coordinators. What the hell was wrong with him? Why was his stomach churning or his muscles becoming wobbly? Why did he suddenly feel light-headed and nauseous? Why did he feel afraid to look at May, who had noticed his weird posture and had begun to walk over?
Even if she knew of the evil schemes he tended to pull off to win contests, May couldn’t help but worry for her Cacturne-cosplaying rival, and she showed this with the compassion that leaked from her sapphire orbs as she gained closer to him.
Harley felt himself blush again. She…was so nice, friendly and caring – something that people never came across often. But why the hell was he only noticing this now, and why was it affecting him so? He felt like he was going to throw up.
The amethyst-haired coordinator turned his eyes up to May when she was standing right in front of him, murmuring out his name to get a positive response, and he mentally admired the flicker of cobalt that radiated from her eyes.
He performed a fake cough, not wanting May to become suspicious, and slowly stood tall as he mumbled, “Uh, yeah I’m fine.”
May cocked her head, concerned expression, which she didn’t seem to have a problem feeling towards Harley, still strong. “You sure…?”
Harley nodded in a hesitant manner, suddenly becoming nervous as if he was a dorky kid on a first date with the school’s most popular girl. For a few seconds words failed to come from his mouth, although, “I’m fine, I assure you,” slithered out between his chapped lips eventually.
Usually such signs as weird behavior meant Harley was up to something, and May had learned of this quite a while ago. However, she somehow knew that he wasn’t up to anything, and his strange hesitant gestures were for something else.
And was he…blushing?
May shook the thoughts away from her head, mentally scowling herself for thinking such things. Instead she only shrugged to Harley and informed him that she would be right across the waiting room if he needed anything, leaving for the designated spot soon after. Harley couldn’t help but watch her in amazement as she left – on how, even with all of the things he had done to ruin her past performances in contests, she was treating him like an actual friend.
It was amazing how much admiration Harley was now seeing in May since Drew and Brendan were out of the picture. For some reason he felt that becoming friends with her seemed a lot nicer than being an ass to her, which went against all rules he had set up for himself when he came to Johto. He couldn’t explain why he would feel such things, although one conclusion eventually formed in his mind.
Jealousy.
He was…jealous of Drew – of Brendan. All those years of tormenting May, it was all out of the fact that he wanted to be her best friend – that he wanted to be the source of her affection. But with Drew or Brendan in the way, he couldn’t top the support they gave her, so the only thing he could do was beat it down until the road to her attention was open for him to cross.
And now he could.
Because he wanted to be her friend.
Because he wanted to be the source of her affection.
Because, all this time, he wanted her attention to be directed towards him.
Because he had grown to love her.
Harley felt breathless, and he clenched his chest as if he was having a heart attack. The feelings of hatred he had always given to May…it was all out of the fact that he wanted her to love him – to ignore Drew and Brendan and only pay attention to him.
At least now he actually had plausible alibis for his past intentions.
Calming down, he turned his widened metallic-green eyes towards May as she watched the outside arena battles on the TV hanging from the ceiling. She look so determined, yet happy at the same time, as if, even if she did lose, she wouldn’t care, and instead only strive herself to become better.
Unlike him.
Drama was sure riding on his back today…
For some reason, he couldn’t stop himself as he began to walk over to May, soon joining her side, but remaining silent. May smiled at him, although her eyes grew bright with curiosity as she gazed at him, noticing that his darkened eyes were turned away. He hummed to himself, slowly shifting his eyes to meet hers, which he could feel his stomach churn when her glowing irises came into contact with his.
“Are you okay, Harley?” May questioned with obvious concern. “You’re acting really weird today…”
“Tell me about it,” he mumbled between his gritted teeth, although May didn’t hear it.
Instead, the suspicion inside the young woman began to grow strong once again, and despite that her gut retorted with the idea that Harley was up to something, May’s common sense begged to differ. Regardless that she liked being nice, a small frown grew across her lips, and Harley soon noticed this when he turned to eye her.
“Are you scheming anything…?” May muttered, her voice abnormally serious, glaring at Harley out of the corner of her eye. Harley pulled back, somewhat appalled, although he understood why she would suddenly become suspicious, as in past times when he acted nice to her it was usually to trick her.
The amethyst-haired coordinator eventually straightened his posture as he then replied in the same tone, “I find it quite offensive that you would automatically assume that I would be up to something.”
“Your past crimes tell me everything.”
Harley blinked. “Crimes?” He frowned, annoyed. “You sure do label stuff quite quickly.”
May only snorted, crossing her arms. “Whatever you got planned now,” she then muttered, “it’s best you give it up.”
The amethyst-haired coordinator rolled his eyes at his rival’s attempts to sound mature when childishness usually occupied her actions. Nonetheless, though, he returned his now-amused eyes to her, somewhat finding her attempts at seriousness cute. He suddenly smirked, however, as he came up with a devious idea. “You want to know what’s wrong with me?” he mumbled sarcastically, and May remained firm, nodding slightly. Pushing all of his nervousness away, Harley then decided to give her an ‘evil’ scheme she would never forget.
He lunged forward and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him. May blushed from the sudden contact, and then some when Harley suddenly leaned in and placed his lips to hers. May widened her eyes, struggling slightly as she felt her rival’s lips massage hers, sending sprawls of warmth across her face. Before she could do anything further, though, Harley pulled away, both a smirk and a blush covering his face.
“There’s your clue,” he then muttered, letting go of her and turning around to walk off, a smile forming across his lips in the midst of it. May only watched him in surprise, a blush still covering her face, tempted to touch her lips just to check if the moment that happened seconds ago really took place.
Her expression suddenly turned into that of a furious one. “D-don’t ever do that again!” she called out to Harley as he approached the door out of the contest hall. He stopped in movement at her words, sensing that the stutter among her tone was proof that she had enjoyed his little scheme, and only turned to look at her when she added, “I don’t even know why you would think I would ever be attracted to you!”
Harley chuckled, opening the door. “At least you still love to stare at me,” he then replied in a flirting manner before walking out of the room, leaving May behind. The brunette-haired coordinator blinked in surprise, although her angry expression quickly died down to an amused one.
It was then when she began to chuckle to herself as she rose her fingers to touch her lips, a blush rising from her cheeks as the feeling of her rival’s kiss replayed in her mind.
-ooo-
Harley grinned to himself as the cold air of early winter touched his skin, thoughts of May running through his head. The kiss…it was amazing, even if she didn’t respond. He was practically breathless, and he couldn’t help but shoot cheerful looks towards the door into the contest hall.
Yes, he had been an evil schemer who thought he despised May with every fiber of his being, but, in the end of it all, it was the complete opposite. He loved May with every fiber of his being, and for some reason he felt that his worries were solved – that nothing was in the way of him being with her now.
He chuckled to himself, his eyes turning soft.
Being a little devious at times isn't so bad.
