A/N: I wrote this for my friend, Cerulean Balance, who is big YumichikaXIkkaku brotherly love fan, and had almost lost her best friend to a car accident. I'm glad he didn't die, because if he did, she would have lost reason to live.
Disclaimer: Don't own, sorry.
It was a week since it happened. A week since one Ayasegawa Yumichika of the 11th squad was named dead. And, it was that week, that Madarame Ikkaku felt no reason to continue living. Everyone saw it, and everyone felt his depression. Because, regardless of how they deny it, every person has a special person they wanted to protect. Hitsugaya had Hinamori, and Hinamori had Hitsugaya. Ichigo had many special people, his family, his friends, and they all had him. Rukia had her brother Byakuya and Renji, and they each had her. Hell, even Kenpachi had Yachiru and Yachiru had him. They all felt the pain the shinigami felt, because, once or twice, they each thought that lost their special person, or had actually lost one of them in Ichigo’s case. And, when they heard of what happened, they all unconsciously hung on tighter to that person they love, knowing that if they weren’t careful, they could also lose them.
He was no longer the same. When asked to a fight, he told them he didn’t have the time. When told to spar, he would say his sparring partner is missing. He wouldn’t call Yachiru a brat when she called him Cue Ball or Baldy, or throw her off his head when she tried to suck on it, instead, he would calmly pluck her off and set her on the floor then tell her to go to someone else. He would spend his time in the field behind his squad barracks, even in the rain, because it was something they did, and he didn’t want to go back to his now lonely room. Everyone was worried, because, with each passing day he grew worse. Even Kenpachi, the sadistic fighter, had a growing feeling of worry.
When Ikkaku was ordered to accompany him and Yachiru to view the new recruits, he didn’t complain like he usually did and make some half-assed excuse why he shouldn’t, but just nodded his head and calmly walked with them. At the barracks, he didn’t try to look intimidating, and didn’t care if they are whispering about a depressed pansy ass shinigami, but leaned against the wall and closed his eyes instead of watching Yachiru toying with the new recruits and Kenpachi giving intimidating glances. Kenpachi saw this, and a plan formed in his mind.
“Ikkaku, as the 3rd seat I want you to fight one of the new recruits!” He barked out, making Ikkaku open his eyes.
He fixed his captain with an empty, hollow stare. He took a deep breath, before beginning his reply.
“Sorry captain, you know I never fight the new recruits without him here. Have Yachiru do it, she will enjoy it more.” He replied, his eyes now holding sadness.
“Ikkaku, you know you can’t change what happened, now, I’m your captain, and I’m ordering you to fight one of these recruits!” He growled out.
Ikkaku just closed his eyes and continued leaning on the wall. This, of course, made Kenpachi very angry. He was about to walk over to the hairless shinigami and beat some sense in him, but a familiar voice rang out through the barracks, that made Ikkaku jump up and Kenpachi and Yachiru eyes widen in surprise.
“Now captain, you know beating your 3rd seat wouldn’t be considered beautiful, and I’m here, so he can now fight to his heart’s content.”
A shape was found leaning against the door way of the double door entrance to the barracks that was idly playing with its hair and had its eyes were closed. Ikkaku couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His special person, the person who was supposedly dead was standing in front him like nothing had changed.
“Yumi?” He whispered out, loud enough for the figure to hear.
“Did you miss me Ikkaku?” He asked back, now looking at the bald man with a smirk on.
Instead of answering with words, Ikkaku ran at the figure and hugged him around the waist. Yumichika laughed and awkwardly patted his best friend that he considered a brother on the back, which just made said brother tighten his hold on him, not looking like he was going to let go any time soon. Kenpachi cleared his throat, and the little girl on his shoulder squealed in delight before launching off him and soaring to the same figure and latching on to his head in a hug, her hands and feet wrapped around him.
“Feather Brow is alive! FEATHER BROW IS ALIVE!” She sang with delight, loud enough for the rest of the original Squad 11 to hear.
Soon, the barracks was not only filled with the new recruits, but with the entire squad 11 division, who didn’t hesitate to run at Yumichika and pat him on the back and in some cases, give him one armed hugs, though, that was mostly from the female members.
“Alright, alright, you’ve all gotten reacquainted, must I remind you all that we still have new recruits to review. Ikkaku, I’m once again asking you to fight one of them.” Kenpachi finally said, with a sadistic grin on.
Ikkaku let go of his friend and brother, and returned the grin with equal blood lust. He drew his zanpakutō
and walked toward the new recruits with a stalk that resembled a lion hunting its prey. He stopped in the middle, and his grin grew wider.
“I’d love to captain!” He said, and promptly started attacking every new recruit in the area.
As the division 11 watched what seemed as a bloody and disgusting scene of fighting unfold to others, they couldn’t help but think how finally, everything was returning to normal, and their twisted, sadistic, fight loving family was once again complete.
