Okay so I have been reading two Higher Ground crossover stories with Criminal Minds

Okay so I have been reading two Higher Ground crossover stories with Criminal Minds. And so that I would know what Higher Ground was I looked it up. I freaked out when I saw who was in the cast. Hayden Christensen (Star Wars, Awake, Jumper), Jewel Staite (Firefly, Serenity, Stargate Atlantis (??) ), and of course AJ Cook (who plays the beautiful carefree Jennifer Jareau on Criminal Minds).

The first chapter(s) will be when Shelby is still Shelby, and not JJ. Anyways this chapter is before/during their graduation. The next will be how Shelby goes from Shelby to JJ. If everything goes as planned. Just FYI David is NOT in this fanfiction, didn’t get to know him well in HG and he annoyed me.

So I found the entire series on youtube and have been watching and doing nothing but watching Higher Ground. I am finally finished and needless to say I cried a lot, in a lot of episodes (especially in the epi where Shelby’s step-dad had a heart attach, and of course on the finally). Anyways I HAD to write a crossover of my own!! ENJOY!

Just a side note to anyone who cares, AJ Cook (who plays Shelby on Higher Ground and JJ on Criminal Minds) is pregnant. And I have heard that it will be mixed in with the CM story line (when what’s-her-face was pregnant on CSI: NY they just didn’t have any full body shots so that they wouldn’t have to deal with it, I am glad to say that I think will not be the case). Just a happy little announcement, I found it out on the Criminal Minds Fanatic Message Board. (Is it April yet!?)

By the way I am not sure what everyone’s ages were in the show so I am making everyone eighteen in the beginning. So if I am wrong about the ages I sincerely apologize!

“We’re graduating today.” Shelby moaned as she woke up in her bed.

“Isn’t it wonderful and so depressing at the same time? Kind of poetic don’t you think?” Daisy asked in that way she always did.

“Now I understand how Kat felt.” Shelby sighed sitting up in bed.

“Yeah, isn’t it weird, she is coming back as an intern and we’re all graduating at the same time?” Juliet asked.

“Well, Princess, you’ll be happy to know Kat is coming to the graduation.” Shelby said condescendingly, because, well, she was Shelby.

“Let’s get ready for the first and last day of our lives.” Daisy said poetically as she got out of bed.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Juliet asked.

“You’ll see Princess.” Shelby said following Daisy to the bathroom. Shelby was an eighteen-year-old blonde who had been molested by her stepfather from the time she was very young. When she was fifteen she started running away from home, selling herself for money. She covered her feelings by being angry and arrogant all the time, that cocoon of anger was her safety. Underneath it was a sad, scared little girl.

Daisy was a gothic eighteen-year-old with brown hair and brown eyes. Both her parents were drunks, her mother died in a drunk driving accident her first year at Mt. Horizon, a school for troubled teens. She had always thought it was iconic that her mother died from drunk driving, almost poetic in her eyes. She had ended up at Horizon because when her father threatened to abuse her, she beat him with a golf club.

Juliet was also eighteen years of age; her mother had always wanted Juliet to be the perfect child. So she had turned to cutting herself for comfort, and in order to be skinny like her mother wanted her to be, she also became bulimic.

In the bed next to Shelby lie Shelby’s sleeping little sister Jess. Jess had gone through the same thing as Shelby had, sexual abuse from their stepfather. She, unlike Shelby, did not hide in a cocoon of anger, she was not afraid to share what had happened to her. Now that Walt, their step-dad, was in jail. Luckily for Jess, since she wasn’t graduating, she didn’t have to wake up for another half an hour.

“What are you going to do with the rest of your life?” Daisy asked looking at her best friend, Shelby.

“I don’t know, I don’t plan on doing much. Considering my record.” Shelby said in that angry way she always did. Daisy was not flustered by Shelby’s angry ways of speaking, and Shelby didn’t mind Daisy’s poetic and morbid way of speaking.

“Yeah, but maybe you and Scott could run away together.” Daisy said cheerfully. Shelby couldn’t help but smile.

Scott was Shelby’s boyfriend. He had come to Horizon two months after Shelby had; he had blonde curly hair and deep brown eyes. His stepmother had molested him, so he and Shelby related. Though he had never lived on the streets so Shelby always felt that she had it the worst. Despite their differences they were madly in love, and never wanted to be apart, ever. Though they suspected that once they graduated they would never see each other again.

“We could.” Shelby said.

“Are you going to?” Daisy asked.

“He is going home remember? To try to rekindle things with daddy.” Shelby said condescendingly. Scott’s father blamed Scott for the abuse he had suffered, not the woman who had inflicted it. But even so, Scott dearly loved his father and he wanted to give it a second chance.

“Oh yeah, that’s a show I am very sad to miss.” Daisy said turning on the water and splashing it on her face.

“What don’t you want to miss?” Juliet asked walking into the bathroom.

“Scott and his dad’s reunion.” Shelby said turning on the water to start brushing her teeth.

“Oh.” Juliet said picking up her brush to brush her hair.

“What about you and Ezra? Are you going to run away together?” Shelby asked Daisy.

Ezra was a curly haired, sweet natured boy. His parents had adopted him in an effort to save their marriage. Of course the boy had suffered greatly for it, turning to drugs, like almost all of the others had. He and Daisy had hit it off immediately, and now they were inseparable.

“I don’t know, maybe.” Daisy said grinning from ear to hear. “What about you and Auggie?” Daisy asked Juliet.

“My mom doesn’t like him, and what mommy doesn’t like…” Juliet said.

Auggie was a Hispanic boy who had grown up in a bad neighborhood. He had ended up in a gang, addicted to drugs. Though he was a very sweet boy. And he probably wouldn’t have ended up in a gang if it wasn’t for were he lived. His parents had sent him to Horizon to get him on the right path, so that when he was eighteen he wouldn’t be stuck in the gangs. He and Juliet were also an item.

“Please, Princess, just when I thought you couldn’t get any worse.” Shelby said splashing some water over her face.

“But when mommy isn’t happy no one is.” Juliet said earnestly.

“Such a momma’s girl.” Shelby said wiping her face on a towel.

“You should be with Auggie, you to were destined to meet. Don’t blow it because of how selfish your mom is.” Daisy said, she started out poetic and ended angrily.

“Besides you’ll break his heart.” Shelby said, very unShelby-like.

“Fine.” Juliet said, “I’m going to take a shower first.”

“Whatever.” Shelby and Daisy both mumbled.

“Are you guys ready to graduate?” Sophie asked once everyone was seated around the table eating breakfast.

Sophie was their guidance councilor who married the owner of Mt. Horizon about a year ago. Though she had been a councilor before Peter’s wife. They were going to adopt a child over the summer since they both wanted kids but Sophie was unable to have a child.

A chorus of ‘sure’s and ‘whatever’s followed her question.

“Come on guys, it will be an adventure!” Sophie said cheerfully.

“I don’t want you to leave.” Jess said tearfully. She grabbed her sister’s left hand. Shelby looked at Jess then at Scott, who sat on the other side of Shelby.

“I know, but you’re doing great. Don’t worry, I’ll still be your sister when you get out of here in a couple years.” Shelby said smiling at her sister.

“But I will be all alone.” She said sadly. She had joined Horizon and taken Kat’s place on the ‘Cliffhanger’s group. Now that everyone was graduating and Jess was going to be getting a whole new group. Like she was starting at the school all over again. Most groups only lost one, or all, at a time. Never all but one. It was going to be hard on Jess.

“Hey don’t worry, Peter said you can spend the summer with me remember?” Shelby reminded her little sister.

“Yeah but when I come back I won’t have any of you.” She said tearfully. Everyone looked at her sadly, though they never stopped shoving the, not so good tasting, food in their mouths.

“When you get out give us all a call.” Daisy said cheerfully. “Well, give me a call anyways.” She said looking around at the group. They all looked at Shelby’s little sister as their own sister as well.

“Me too.” Scott said smiling at Jess.

“Yeah, call me too, anytime.” Auggie said. Everyone else nodded in agreement.

“Thanks guys, I might take you up on that offer.” Jess said smiling at all of them.

“Kat, hey!” Peter said greeting the nineteen-year-old African American, who had beautiful, long, curly black hair.

“Hey Peter!” Kat said hugging her old councilor and friend.

“How are you?” He asked.

“Good, college is going great. But I wouldn’t miss everyone’s graduation for the world.” Kat said smiling at him. “How are they all doing?” She asked.

“Great, some of them will have a tough time at first but, I think they’re ready.” Peter assured her.

“Can I see them?” She asked.

“Yeah, they are all in the kitchen.” Peter said pointing her towards the kitchen.

“Cleaning?” She asked walking down the familiar hallway towards the kitchen.

“Nope, eating. Though they will have one last kitchen duty before they all leave.” Peter said smiling.

“Of course they will.” Kat said smiling back. “Hey guys.” She said once they had entered the kitchen and were standing next to where the Cliffhangers all sat.

“Kat!” Juliet exclaimed standing up to hug her friend.

“Hey Kat.” Shelby said from where she sat, though she sounded bored Kat could see the joy in Shelby’s blue eyes.

“Hey, who’s this?” Kat asked looking at Jess, she had never met Shelby’s little sister.

“Oh, Kat this is my little sister Jess. Jess this is Kat, she used to be in our group.” Shelby said.

“Your sister?” Kat asked.

“Yep.” Shelby said turning back to her food. Though she had opened up some over the past couple years she still relapsed into her cocoon of anger and boredom.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Kat said extending her hand to Jess. Jess politely shook it.

“Same here.” She said before turning back to her food as well.

“What’s wrong with her?” Kat asked Peter.

“My guess is that her sister and everyone else are leaving today, leaving her behind to deal with six new people.” Peter said quietly.

“Oh.” Kat said nodding.

“I don’t want you to go.” Jess sobbed once the ceremony was over. Everyone stood outside, saying their goodbyes. Everyone was a little teary-eyed. None of them wanted to say goodbye, despite their reluctance to stay here at first, now it was their home.

“I know.” Shelby said pulling her sister into her arms. Tears slid down out of her own eyes.

“Why do you have to go?” Jess asked.

“Because, I graduated.” Shelby said looking into her sister’s eyes.

“I can’t believe mom said I have to come home and stay with her.” Jess said angrily. “I don’t want to go back to that house, I don’t want to remember.”

“Talk to Peter about it, mom won’t be here for a couple of days. He might be able to talk mom out of taking you home.” Shelby said.

“Okay.” Jess sniffed.

“Shelby?” Scott asked.

“Hey.” She said turning around to face him, smiling.

“I’ll call you as often as I can, and write you as often as I can.” Scott said.

“We went over this the last time.” Shelby said. “You know it won’t work.”

“Yes it will, I will make it work.” Scott insisted stepping closer to her. “This isn’t the end.”

“Goodbye.” She said.

“Shell…” He started to say but she cut him off.

“I love you, but lets be real about this.” She said.

“I love you too.” He said pulling her into his arms.

“I have to go say goodbye to everyone else.” Shelby said pulling out of his arms.

“Yeah.” He sighed, he watched her walk off to join the others.

“Hey.” Shelby said approaching the teary-eyed group of friends.

“Hey.” They all said smiling a little.

“I am going to miss you guys, you know that right?” She said.

“That’s good to know.” Ezra said.

“Yeah.” Juliet said smiling a little.

“Well, bye.” Shelby said trying not to show the tears that were gathering in her eyes.

“Bye.” They all said swarming her and pulling her into a group hug. All but Daisy. Once they were done hugging they walked off to let the best friends say goodbye.

“So, this is it.” Daisy said wiggling her head a little.

“Yeah, but maybe we could call each other?” Shelby offered.

“I thought you told Scott that this was the end.” Daisy said.

“Yeah, but he’s a guy, you’re my best friend.” Shelby said smiling.

“Yeah.” Daisy said pulling Shelby into a one-armed hug. “Good bye friend.” She said.

“Goodbye.” She said resting her head on Daisy’s. This truly was the end.

Well that’s the first chapter, please review!! Hope you enjoyed it. You should know I rushed finishing the Higher Ground series so that I could write this story, so I hope it’s good. Because now I am sad that I watched it all in three days. ;)
