Chapter 1
--
The cool evening air rustled the trees around Tsunade as she made her way down from her one room apartment. Her heels clicked against the metal steps with each step she took and the midnight robe danced at her ankles as a light rustle of wind brushed against her body, her light blonde hair swaying with it. Emerald eyes looked up from long black lashes as she focused on the moon who's face was half gone.
It was that time again.
She looked to her right and left before she continued down the steps, afraid that she would be spotted by one of the monsters that haunted her beloved home, her beloved Konoha.
The blonde reached the road without being spotted by any of the creatures she knew were stalking around, the hungry monsters that day in and day out robbed the village of its people. Shivering slightly at the memory of the newly taken she rushed across the street and pushed herself against the wall of a building, desperate to keep her breathing moderate so she would make it without being spotted.
Luck was with her tonight as the area around her remained still and silent as the inhabitants around her kept sleeping despite the danger they were all in. She slunk away from the wall with eyes darting around her before she walked up the road, her senses ever sharp in case of a monster appearing. Tensely, she walked with her eyes still sweeping the area around her, skin clammy and whitening.
She jumped a bit as a trash can lid slammed down against the road. A tall man, only about six inches taller, with flowing spiky white hair stepped out of the shadows as well.
“Jariyia you scared the crap out of me!” she hissed as she turned to walk up to her childhood friend.
“Sorry Tsunade-hime just taking out my trash when I well dropped the lid...again.” He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head, a small hint of pink on his checks.
“Crazy perv,” she murmured, “Hurry up or we're going to be late for the meeting.” The old mans face darkened into a serious tone as he quickened his pace and rushed after his friend.
--
“Hello Tsunade, Jairiya.” An even older man, with a long white beard and leathery skin, greeted the two as they walked though two sets of doors where at each one they had to prove they were their of their own free will.
“Yes good evening Hiro-san.” Jairiya greeted while the blonde next to him inclined her head a bit. “Are we late?”
“Oh dear no your just on time actually. The other members just arrived about five minutes ago.” Hiro gestured behind him before turning and leaving the pair at the door. They looked at each other, fear in the tiniest portion of their eyes before stepping after the man.
The other five members were shrouded in shadow, each of them with long robes on that they used to cover their heads making it harder to see who else had been asked to join the counsel. Hiro walked to the other five and whispered something to them before entering a side door and saying, “Follow me my brothers and sisters. It is less likely they will be able to find us.”
They followed without question.
--
“Now my brother's and sister's we all know why we are here, yes?” Hiro looked about the room where the members had taken to sitting down all over. It was a small room with large candlesticks and several large comfortable chairs lined with velvet. Some of the hooded members nodded while others remained still. Tsunade nodded as well as Jairiya who looked out of place. This was dangerous especially if he were caught. He thought briefly of his grandchildren at home who depended on him, despite them being teenagers he felt it was his duty to look after them. It was to be expected though considering he dotted on them too much as they were growing up.
“Jairiya are you listening?” a sharp voice somewhere to his left snapped. He jumped before nodding and looking at Hiro.
“As I was saying...we are here to discuss how to best rid the village of these monsters. I have already contacted Madara but he's unavailable at the moment, busy with some vampire den west.” the beard man rolled his eyes, “So we need to find an alternate idea to use in the meantime while we try gathering more weapons to defend our selfs. Does anyone have any suggestions?” He looked over at one of the figures sitting on the little love seat who stood up before he had finished speaking.
“Hiro-sama I propose that we move into our shelters. That may not be much but it will keep the monsters away for a bit while we surround our selfs with shelter and perhaps have Madara with us by then.” Her shrill voice stirred the air around her as words floated around the room.
“That would be foolish, we have no idea where they have nested, for all we know they might be in a section of our shelters.” Jairiya had spun to face to woman who cringed at the man's glare.
“Thank you for the suggestion Koharu,” Hiro turned his glaring gaze at Jairiya, “Did you have anything to offer us with?”
The white haired male looked at his fellow members before saying, “Allow the king to take something of ours in exchange he keeps his followers from hunting here for at least a year.” He just said what popped into his head, never expecting this outcome:
“That just might work...” Tsunade whispered low, her hand coming up to cup her chin.
“Yeah, it just might work.” One of the cloaked figures whispered. Jairaya twitched a bit, the voice wasn't male or female...or any voice he recognized.
“Yes.” A high voice, female, said as she shifted her weight. Ayame?
“Alright then...lets vote then.” Hiro said before raising his hand, “Those in favor of Koharu's plan raise your hand.” Three raised their hands, all heads tilted away from Hiro. The man nodded. He understood their fear. “And those in favor or Jairiya's plan.” Five votes were cast for him and his flawed plan.
“It is settled then, someone call upon the king and we will propose our plan to him.”
On of the cloaked figures gasped as it looked behind them, trembling a bit. All the members looked in alarm at their brother before gasping as well.
“There is no need Hiro-san.” A voice echoed around the room, bouncing off each object sending a wave of fear throughout the room, “I'm already here.”
--
The black sky, so wondrous during the moon cycle where everything was alight, sent an wary shadow across the city. Running down main street though a young boy raced, his hair pushed back from his face. His baggy shirt clung to his chest while most of the garment flew behind him. His pants clung to his legs, never relinquishing their hold.
His bare feet pounded against the dry dirt and the sharp rocks. Small cuts appeared on his feet but none of them were enough to break his skin. Heart beating hard against his chest, his tan skin flushed pink as he gasped for air, the running taking most of his energy. But he had to push on or his hunter would catch him.
He would go to hell and it wouldn't let him go...
A low chuckle echoed behind him as, in his hast, he stumbled and fell, “How cute little kitten.”
Shivering the blonde stood up and tried to start running again, but his legs were tight and would not bend enough for him to run. He could only jog, how pitiful.
“Stop running kit and let's play a game.” Velvet cloth flew over his head, creating a world of nothing. But there was something with him, it was all around him, the shadows.
The child held fear and panic as shadows danced around him, playfully grabbing at him. Resisting the urge to turn around he started running again, only this time unaware of his surroundings, his speed in tune with the increasing beat of his heart. He knew his heart was the one thing right now that was betraying him. The human part that made him different than his hunter.
“Naughty kitten,” the shadows slowed him down as their weight grew on his frail human body, “You shouldn't run away from me.” The weight grew as he collapsed on his knee's panting a bit as his lungs had a hard time taking in enough oxygen.
Icy hands touched his face then, one clasped down on his mouth and the other petting his cheek. “Time to play our game Naruto.”
“Wake up already you little idiot!” A sharp blow to the head woke up Naruto who's eyes shot open in seconds, along with a throbbing pain. Startled he rolled out of his blanket and looked at his elder sister.
“What?” his voice heavy with sleep and half of his mind still focused on the dream
“Gramps is gone and he left a note saying to get to Tsunade's asap!” Nii raised her hand again, “Damn it wake up!”
“Ugh sister, it's so late though,” The world outside the window next to the now awake blond was dark, only stars lighting the world of the night. “Besides what if he gets you?”
“Then he gets me! As long as I move fast I should be fine idiot!” Nii hit her brother again this time with less force. “Besides I can get back at him for taking mom and dad away from us.”
--
“And...go!” Naruto sprinted across the road, getting to the other side in ten seconds. Nii had successfully dragged him out of bed and now they were going into the night, to get to Tsunade's home.
“Go!” Nii ran first this time while Naruto hung back, waiting for the all clear from her. There was silence for a long time, much to long for her just to be checking.
“Sister…” he whispered before he felt ghost hands slide though his hair,
“Hello again Kitten...”
