I do not own bioshock.
"So how do you plan to build this" I asked "cause it seems to me that if you wish to build a city under the ocean youre out of youre goddamn mind" I simply could not believe what I was hearing this man say.
We talked before, Ryan and I he talked about how he wished to create his utopia and I was enthralled by the idea, impossible though it was. What I was hearing now was proof to me that Ryan had lost all notions of reality.
"have you lost youre mind" I asked. "No" Ryan spoke slowly but clearly "no, I have never seen the world more clearly, it is not I who has lost touch with reality, but you and everyone that lives in this world that fails to understand the strength the ingenuity and the bottomless creativity of mans mind. It is not impossible to build this city under the ocean, it is impossible to build it anywhere else"
"youre speaking like one of those goddamn idealists" I said angry. I could not understand that this man whom I considered to be the last moral and real man on earth could speak this kind of nonsense, this man that I admired for his genius for his tireless energy for his unbreakable spirit, who had clearly gone mad.
He had spoken to me of his utopia, a world where man could be free, where man where entitled to the fruits of their mind and its endless ability to produce, a world where man need not work for another man, a world where man, could be man. A society without parasites, a moral society.
I simply could not believe that the man who spoke of those things, who so clearly understood that man of our kind, who drove the world, were not acepted by the same world that we created, could plummet into madness like that.
"you doubt my vision" Ryan said clearly but with no neither anger or resentment but with an air of condensending as if he knew, yet I didnt "you dare not believe that such a thing could be true, you fear it even" Ryan said "because it seems impossible you would denounce it as even worth attempting. I ask you know, what of those man that claimed the earth was flat and it was impossible to have it be any different, what of those men that said that no machine could ever replace a horsecariage, what of those men who said that man could never fly. It were greater man who proved that those things could be done, it were free man who said that it could be done differently who chose to follow their own reason rather then be the slave to the preconceptions of other man. you dare not believe me when I say it can be done because of the belief that man has that those things that arent now will never be, and that its evil to speak as if it would be possible"
"mans mind is limitless" Ryan continued "It can acomplish whatever it desires to do. Mans mind is a creative entity, it gives birth to new ideas that advance mankind as a whole, but never forget that it is only the few man that have the capacity to creative thought, only a few man who have the capicity to produce the new. And these man work for themself not for mankind, mankind is entiteld to not even an ounce of the genius of these man. Mankind must pay these man what these man are worth, their full worth no more or less. This city will be build by man of capacity for man of capacity. This city will be build on the greatest minds mankind has to offer, minds like mine and yours. Do not say "it cant be done" but say "lets build this" and then use your mind and the bottemless power of your mind to solve whatever problems you come across."
Yes I thought this was Ryan as I knew him, and his dreams were my dreams but still I dared not believe it possible I asked "why would you build this city under the ocean, why not simply build in soms unclaimed land on some unkown island or some untouched region" Ryan answerd solemnly "It would never be safe the society we will be creating will bear the greatest achievements mankind has ever produced and the parasites will claim it as their own if we allow them to catch even a sniff of the marvels that will be produced. We need to leave the very surface of the earth in order to protect us from those who would take that wich they themselfs could never produce yet would claim the right to posses these fruits of labor of greater man."
"We will build a society that will be its own functioning world, we will gather the necessary resources on the bottom of the ocean, we will create our own air by producing growing our own trees we will grow crops and raise animals by building our own farms so that the farmer can grow what he wants, we will create electricity by reaping the underground magma streams, we will build factorys there so that the industrialsts will be able to produce without restrictions,
we will build theaters, so that the artists can enthrall us with the creativity of their mind without fear of repraisal, we will build laboratorys their so that the scientists can discover and manipulate without fear of offending someones delicate morality we will build a city where the great can exist and gain the pride and admiration that is rightfully theirs."
"This city will be new frontier, and where man has gone and build something they will be able to say "I earned it, there was nothing before I came and out of this nothing I created" wheter these are structures, industries, art pieces, scientific revelations, these will have been created by man for nonother but themselves and they will have earned every penny that they make for they will have done what lesser man would have been incapable of acomplishing".
"The common man would never allow us this freedom, they would force us to work for them, for their benefit. The small will never allow us to sucseed for ourself, therefor we must cast ourself of from the small, and create a moral society, where man works for his own happiness. only when we are trapped in the depths of the ocean will we be able to enjoy this freedom. Great man, like you and me can build this dream through sheer force of will, will you join me in this?"
"Will you come to my city, a city where we do not have to fear the whims of goverments, where we need not be assaulted by the pleas of the parasites, where we need not listen to the cry of the weak and unproductive masses who claim that they have a moral right to fruits of our labor simply because they need it. A city where greed will not be considerd a sin but a moral virtue, where greatness is not something you should be ashamed of but can stand proudly in the open gaining the respect that is rightfully yours!"
"Yes it will be difficult to build a city under the ocean. But to say that it would be imossible would be like talking as one of the masses of mediocricy. If one beliefs that he couldnt change his situation then that man might as well be dead. if you say that it cant be done, well then go lie in some gutter and rot. But if your a man you will come and build this city with me, not for my benefit but for you own."
"we will built a city through the fires of industry and through our insermountable will, we will mine ore, we will forge steel, we will lay foundations, we will erect structers and when the city is build we will fill it, with scientists, with artists, with entrepeneurs. the unclaimed treasures of the ocean floor will be reaped, the great artists will create plays that will survive for thousands of years, the scientists will create new inventions that will change our very way of life. Through the greatness of mans mind will build this city!"
"I will help you build this city" I decided with that statement "I will help you build this city not for your benefit but solely that of my own" for the first time in my life I felt complete, what Ryan told me now was all that I had ever wanted to hear as if in my whole life I had been waiting for a man like him, a man would take me and all the others who were abused by the common man from this corrupted earth, at last I felt a sense of purpose that made me feel complete this dream would require everything I had to give it but I know, I believe it can be done, and when its complete I would finaly be able to start my life as a free man "with the greatness of our mind we can build this city, in order to break the shackels that the common man has placed on us." I said to Ryan "good" said Ryan "then with the sweat of our brows lets build this city and become man."
