Chapter 11

When they reached Doc Mimms without being spotted Frank and Annie rode back behind the house leaving Jesse alone to purpose to Zee. Annie was giving her horse food and water, they needed it after the long ride home when Frank called her name, she looked over at him.

"Yeah Frank"

"I'm sorry" he said with his head bowed down

"For what?"

"For dragging you in. For you having to see Jim die, I know you were close"

Annie walked over to Frank and lifted his chin up

"Frank you didn't drag me I forced you guys to let me go same with Jim, he thought he was ready but he wasn't. Thats not your fault and of course I hated seeing Jim die but it was only a matter of time before any one of us got killed despite popular belief he knew the risks of riding with you guys."

"He was so young"

"But old enough. "

"Hey guys!" Jesse called from the side of the house. Annie and Frank walked around the house to join Jesse. Zee and Doc on the porch.

"Doc just agreed to let you stay for awhile" Jesse said

"Oh thank you Doc" Annie said hugging him

"Frank, Annie you know you're welcome here anytime after all you've done for this town I think people would fight to have you stay with them. Besides I need someone to keep me company for awhile"

"Zee don't tell me you 're actually goin to marry Jesse. I mean he's not nearly as goodlookin as I am" Jesse punched Frank in the arm

"Your right Frank lets run away and leave these two together"

"Nah she might kill me. I don't know how you're not dead yet Frank"

"I was goin to but he's just too good of a kisser" everyone laughed

"Let's get inside before any detectives pass by" Doc herded them into the house

"I have to go pack anyway, Annie could you help me?"

"Of course Zee"

Once the girls walked inside Zee's room and had the door closed Zee let out an excited squeal

"Everything you hoped it would be Zee?"

"That and more. He was so romantic. Lord I can't wait" Zee pulled out a bag and started putting clothes in it

"Where are you guys goin?"

"We're moving to Florida to get married, Pinkerton has no reason to be there"

"Be careful just because he has no business to be there doesn't mean he won't go after Jesse"

"Of course but the thought of him leaving the gang to have a life with me just makes me so dizzy."

"Thats good Zee I'm glad you're happy"

"Zee answer me one question did you read any of the letters that he sent you?"

"Not a one I threw them all in the fire. Right that reminds me" Zee walked over to the closet and pulled out a dress, it was Annie's wedding dress

"Here I kept it. Lucky for you , you put Annie's wedding dress on it I though it was from Jesse so I was ready to throw it in the fire"

"I thought you would. Zee do you have a dress?"

"Up my Ma's old one." Zee pulled out another dress from the closet. This dress was off white with ruffles along the neck line. Zee put it on and stood in front of her mirror then put her hair up and under a small hat covered with flowers.

"Oh Zee you look like an angel."

"HEY ZEE WE HAVE TO GET GOIN!" Jesse yelled up the stairs

"Dan that man can't he wait five damn minutes" Zee mumbled shutting her bag and lifting it up on her shoulder. Annie walked over and took the bag from her, Zee looked questioningly at Annie

"Your all dressed up and shouldn't have to carry this. You'll get your dress dirty. Now let's go down before Jesse thinks you ran off"

When walking down the stair to where the men were waiting Annie watched Jesse's face as the saw Zee. His lit up, a smile fell on his face and he even blushed a bit.

"Wow Zee you look beautiful" Zee smiled shyly and looked down to the ground then back at him

"Thank you Jesse"

"Hey Jesse. Here ya go" Annie gave him Zee's bag and walked over to stand with Frank, he put his arm around her waist holding her close.

Zee walked over to Doc and hugged him, Doc was crying.

"Zereldra your mother would have been so proud same with Web. Don't become a stranger write me, be careful and watch over Jesse"

Zee laughed through her tears "Of course Daddy. I'm going to miss you so much. I love you daddy"

"I love you too Zee. No go on before I lock you in your room" Zee walked onto the porch and waited for Jesse. Jesse walked up to Doc

"I'll keep her safe sir. I would never let anything happen to her"

"It's not her I'm worried about. I know you will Jesse" Jesse walked over to Frank and Annie

"Well brother this is goodbye for now. Annie I'm gonna miss you."

"Jesse remember now you have Zee to watch out for so don't do anything stupid" Annie kissed his cheek

"Jesse I'm gonna miss you. Have fun the night you've always wanted has come so don't mess it up" Frank hugged Jesse then pushed him out the door.

Annie walked over to Doc, put an arm around him and led him into the sitting room.

"Doc let me get you some tea" Annie went into the kitchen while Frank sat with Doc. As she was making the tea she heard something that caught her attention

"Do you want kids Frank" Doc asked, Annie walked over to put an ear to the door leading into the sitting room. She was curious to what he was going to say. She never knew his opinion on it, they were expected to have kids so they never asked each other if they wanted to have them or not.

"Yeah I do Doc. I can't wait. I wanted to have kids since I purposed to Annie. Thats why I never had a second thought about getting married, the thought of being married to Annie and having a family was got me through the war"

Annie stepped away from the door with a giant smile on her face, she felt as if nothing could ruin that moment for her that everything was perfect. She picked up the tea and entered the room placing the cup in front of Doc. Frank looked at her seeing the wide smile and asked

"Are you alright?"

"Yup. Why wouldn't I be everything is good and hopefully will only get better"

A week went by quietly,For that week Annie was in heaven. She and Frank got to spend quality time together more than ever before, Annie went back to wearing skirts, thank the lord that her and Zee were the same size, and Doc was thankful for all the work the couple had done on the farm. The only thing he did was go into town for supplies and doctor people, Annie did the cooking and cleaning while Frank tended to the animals and fixed everything that needed to be fixed. It was the fifth day that Annie and Frank had stayed at Doc's, they were sitting on the porch while Frank read to Annie when they saw Zee ride up on a horse without Jesse. Both stood up and walked over to her

"Zee where's Jesse?" Annie asked

"What happened?" Frank asked right after Annie

"We were swimmin when Pinkerton came up, he had a ton of detectives with him. They took Jesse and told me to go home and find a new husband. I'm scared guys they're gonna kill him." Zee was sobbing at this point, Annie led her into the house and sat her in the sitting room.

"Zee how did you get back from Florida so fast?" Annie asked

"Pinkerton put me and Jesse on a train and made sure I went back home"

"So Jesse's in Liberty?" Frank asked

"Yeah"

"But not for long they're gonna move Jesse to Washington Frank"

"We have to stop them. WE need men lots of em" Frank said pacing

"I can get men from all around town including some from surrounding towns" Zee said jumping up

"WE have to do it tonight and have them ready to fight tomorrow. Frank go around neighboring towns and recruit men Zee start going around town then start on towns to the west side of Liberty, I'll go find the gang and get them here before sun set tonight"

"Annie how do you know where they are?" Frank asked

Annie waved a table she had in her hand "Bob wrote me yesterday. We have to hurry there's not much time."

Frank pulled her arm bringing her back to where he stood

"Be careful. I love you Annie" Annie smile dup at him

"Frank I'm always careful" He rolled his eyes

"Uh huh"

"I love you too baby"

Annie saddled up her horse and rode fast and hard until she reached a small camp outside Riverside. When she got off her horse and walked in she found at least twenty men drinking or just sitting around playing cards thats when she saw Bob he was walking away from a tent with his head hanging down.

"BOB!" he raised his head toward her

"Annie?" they hugged

"Bob grab the others we have to go Jesse's been captured"

"I know. I just accused Cole of turning him in"

"Oh Bob. Oh well he have to go. You go get all these men saddled up and on their way to Liberty we're meeting at Doc's" She ran off into the tent Bob was walking from

"Cole!Tom!Clell!" they turned around to see her standing there

"Annie what are you doin here I thought you were gone with Frank to have a great happy life without us" Annie glared at Col as if she were a mother annoyed by the disrespect shown by her son

"Cole I don't have time to shoot you right now. WE need everyone to come to Liberty.They have Jesse and there gonna transport him to Washington tomorrow so we have until noon tomorrow to rescue him"

"Who says I'm goin to rescue him?"

"I am and you will because you are best friends with him and to so that you still have a heart somewhere"

Cole didn't say a word but he did stand up and saddle his horse with the others following. When they all reached Doc's they found over thirty men in the back farm standing with Zee and Frank. The gang got reunited and had everyone sit in a circle.

"WE have the men Now we just need a plan" frank said looking at Cole. Cole stood in front and took charge

"We'll have most of you in the forest around the part of the track we are going to stop the train at Bob, Clell and Tom you'll lead this group while Zee, Frank, and I will stop the train"

"And how might you do that Cole?" Bob asked

"Easy Bob we shoot the train with a canon"

"Sounds easy so far" Zee said

"Yeah but to make sure Jesse is ready by the time we meet the train we're gonna need someone to sneak on the train and prepare him, say someone who can dress up like a paid lady and sneak into where the guards are holding Jesse, someone who is good at fighting and lieing"

Everyone except Zee turned to look at Annie smiling innocently, she bowed her head

"Fine" she sighed

"I can do it" Zee said

"No you can't. They know what you look like, during the robberies Annie had a hat covering her face most of the time and Jesse would kill us" Frank said patting her shoulder, Annie looked at Zee

"Plus it's always me. Every time they need a distraction I'm in a dress flirting with some man"

"And this doesn't bother you Frank?"

"Nah look she hates it."

"It's gonna be a long day tomorrow we should all get some rest."
