Dawson’s Creek moves to Beverly Hills
This is a crossover fic…Dawson’s Creek meets Beverly Hills, 90210.
Disclaimer: I don’t own DC or BH, 90210. This is just a fun way of combining my all time fave t.v. shows with one another! So all you DC and 90210 fans…review, review, review.
Los Angeles
Dawson Leery was busy at his desk. He’d been working on his newest project with Co-producer Steven Spielberg now for six months and it seemed they would never finalize all the details. He’d only talked to Joey Potter and Pacey Witter, his childhood best friends, twice in the last three of those six months.
He’d been so busy chasing his dream with the one man he’d always idolized as a child, to find time for a life beyond Beverly Hills. Where he just bought an oversized house, courtesy of his hit television show “The Creek”. Dawson’s autobiographic t.v. show about life in Capeside.
But only part of the important people in his life still resided there. His mother, and Lily, of course; and Jack McPhee and his daughter Amiee. Not to mention, Pacey’s big brother, Doug who was Jack’s better half.
“I’m never going to get this script right. What is wrong with me? I need to find an actress who can pass for the perfect lead female. But whom?” Dawson was talking to himself when his secretary, Kelly Taylor walked into the office.
“Mr. Leery, I have a best friend from high school who would be perfect for the character of Rebecca in your film. Her name is Brenda Walsh.” Kelly stated.
Kelly had once worked with her other best friend Donna Martin Silver at Donna’s boutique. She decided she’d try her hand in show business. Dawson Leery’s t.v. show reminded her of her wonderful times at West Beverly Hills High and her best friends. She’d wanted to meet him desperately, and decided to put in a resume. Which worked out to her advantage.
“Really? Walsh, why does that name sound so familiar? Does she have any relatives living around New York?” Dawson inquired.
“Yeah, she has a twin brother, Brandon who works at a newspaper in NY. Why?” Kelly sounded shocked, but found it coincidental that her boss had heard his name before.
“That’s it! He works with my best friend, Josephine Potter! It really is a small world. Okay, great. So, where is Ms. Walsh now?” Dawson was excited.
Kelly was smiling from ear to ear before she replied, “Just a phone call away.”
Somewhere in Beverly Hills…
Brenda Walsh was seated at her kitchen table reading the New York Post, while eating her morning bagel. This was her daily morning ritual, drinking her coffee, eating her bagel; all while she read the newspaper her brother, Brandon worked for. He was one of the top field reporters at the Post and was expected to come for a visit soon.
Brenda and her twin had been close all their lives. And remained so even though they’d taken different roads out of Beverly Hills. Brenda’s first path had taken her to London, where she’d done theater for a few years, earning a Tony award, among other awards. She inevitably ended back in BH when she was doing a movie and now had no other films in the works at the moment. Which really pissed her off.
She’d been dating Dylan McKay on and off for the past fifteen years. He was in Mexico again, surfing in another contest. He’d taken up entering such contests after the death of his wife and had gone out to London for a few years to be with Brenda. They’d parted ways, but all roads seemed to lead them back to each other.
As Brenda was getting her second cup of coffee she heard her telephone ring.
“Hello? Hey, Kelly. What? Really, Dawson Leery, isn’t he the guy who started ‘The Creek’? Yeah, he wants me to audition? Great, yes, I’ll be there. Give me an hour to get a shower and dress. M’kay. See you then.” Brenda couldn’t believe her luck! What perfect timing. And she loved his show. Which meant he would be fun to work with.
“Okay, Mr. Leery. She’ll be here in an hour.” Kelly said from the doorway of hers and Dawson’s adjoined offices.
“Thanks, Kelly. Please, for the hundredth thousand time, call me Dawson.” He said to her. She smiled brightly. He was such a wonderful boss.
The New York Post
“Hey, Jo? You in there? I got some leads on that story for Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was supposed to visit my sister next week. But it’s too hot to pass up.” Brandon Walsh called out to his Editor and Chief, Joey Potter.
“No, Brandon. We can get someone else to cover that story. You need to see Brenda, it’s been what like a year since you’ve visited Beverly Hills. Don’t you want to see her?” Joey shouted from her office.
She’d been running around all morning getting all the stories and columns ready for this week’s edition of the Post. Brandon Walsh was her best field reporter and good friend. It could hurt her ratings if he didn’t cover this story. But he really did need to see his sister.
Joey had a sister named Betsy she was really close to. So she knew what it was like to spend time with those people most important to one.
“Nah, she’ll be all right. I really need to do this. It’s gonna be covered by everyone, but I have a buddy over there who can give me an up close and personal exclusive. We need this story, Jo.” He pleaded with her. After a few moments, Joey relented. She supposed he was right.
“All right. But promise when you get back that you’ll go see your sister? She’ll be excited I’m sure.” Joey declared. Brandon nodded, then went to work on getting his crew together and booking a flight for them.
The Icehouse of New York
Pacey Witter was busy in the kitchen, as usual, in the restaurant he owned downtown from the Post. He wondered what Joey was up to. He still couldn’t believe it had only been six months since they’d moved in together.
He’d left his brother, Doug Witter in charge of the Capeside Icehouse to expand to this store and start a chain. Which was proving to be a great investment for the Witter brothers.
Doug was also town Sheriff of Capeside, Mass. He’d taken over when the boys’ father had retired. But he also ran the Icehouse for Pacey, with the help of his life partner, Jack McPhee. The two men, along with their adopted daughter, Amiee were doing well.
Pacey was keeping up with the fast pace of the city better than he’d imagined he would. He decided to phone Joey to see if she and Brandon wanted anything from the restaurant for lunch. Neither rarely left the office. Both devoted to the newspaper they loved so dearly.
“Joey, do you and Brando want anything from the Icehouse? I’ll be on my way to the apartment soon and thought I’d drop you guys something off.” Pacey stated over the phone.
“Oh, Pace. That would be great, but Brandon is actually on his way out. He’s off to Iraq for me. There’s so many breaking stories over there, my newspaper will be booked!” She exasperated into her cell.
“Wow, is he going to be in a safe zone? I mean, I thought he was going to visit his sister, what’s her name? Yeah, that’s it Brenda. Oh, wait she’s the actress Brenda Walsh, right? Thought so. Okay, I’ll bring you something at least. I love you.” Pacey heard her say ‘I love you’ before hanging up his phone.
Just as he promised, he was in the elevator on his way up to Joey’s office. He thought he might see Brandon before the man left for Iraq.
Brandon almost bumped into Pacey as he was entering the elevator himself.
“Ah, sorry. Pace, what’s up man? How’s it going?” Brandon smiled warmly. He and Pacey had become friends through their mutual connection, one Ms. Potter.
“Great, man. How bout yourself? I heard you were on your way to Iraq. I hope you have a safe journey and a safe place to stay. Take care.” Pacey replied as he gave Brandon a pat on the arm. He thanked Pacey before they switched places on the elevator. Brandon entering, Pacey exiting.
“Hey, you. Are ya hungry?” Pacey’s blue eyes sparkled at his beautiful girlfriend.
She smiled and said yeah as she gave him a kiss hello.
Los Angeles
Dawson and Kelly were back and forth through the Production Company gathering what they’d need for Brenda’s audition.
Dawson grabbed his script he’d finally finished revising, as Kelly found the necessary props for the audition scene. Blowing out exhausted breaths, the two friends sat down on the couch outside the green room.
“She should be here any minute. I
hope you like her, I think she’ll be perfect for the part.” Kelly
explained.
She had great faith in Bren’s talents.
“I’m sure I will. I saw her in that play she did on Broadway. The one she got a Tony for. She was awesome. But this specific part requires a Southern accent. Can she do accents?” Dawson asked from where his head was resting on the back of the couch.
Kelly smiled, “Can she do accents? Yes, very well I might add. She does an awesome Laverne.” She declared.
“Laverne? What do you mean?” Dawson smiled, he was intrigued.
“Well, when we were in high school, Brenda thought she could work at the Peach Pit. You know the famous restaurant that a lot of famous people have eaten at? Anyway, that’s where Brandon worked. She filled in for him. Or tried, but she finally felt more relaxed and in her ‘element’ as a New Yorker waitress from the 60s. She was hilarious and had everyone itching for more!” Kelly was laughing so hard, it wasn’t easy for Dawson to understand. Though he finally got it.
“Can’t wait. Maybe she’ll channel Laverne for us today.” Dawson smiled again, and headed to the coffee pot. Kelly tried to get his coffee for him, but he wasn’t having it.
An hour later
Brenda Walsh entered the Production Company and headed for Dawson Leery’s office. She had an appointment to audition. She wasn’t sure of the movie title yet, she didn’t even think Dawson knew what the title would be. But she went right up and found Kelly sitting at a receptionist desk.
“Hey, Kel. Is he ready for me?” Brenda smiled as her friend got up to give her a hug.
“Yeah, he’s ready. Are you nervous? I just know you’ll be perfect. The lead female, Rebecca, is a Southern woman struggling to live up to her family’s expectations. You know how that is.” Kelly continued showing Brenda to the green room.
“Okay, Mister Leery. I’m ready.” Brenda put on her best southern accent as she read the first line.
“Perfect!” Dawson smiled. Now, to get the show on the road.
“Really? Thank you, I’m excited to be working for you.” Brenda was impressed with herself.
A week later
The phone was ringing off the hook. Brenda barely registered this fact until she’d fully awaken.
“Hello? Mom, what is it? No! Not Brandon, please. Not Brandon!” Brenda was crying uncontrollably. The worst news she could have gotten. Her brother was dead at age 30.
