Chapter 2: The Mirror of Fate

Sometimes people build up walls around them, not to keep others out, but to see who cares enough to break those walls down.” -Anonymous

Kaname sounded very professional as he spoke. “Zero, Yuki, I have something to talk to you about in the moon dorms. I think you'll be interested.”

“Y-yes Kaname-sama.” Yuki said nervously as she quickly bowed in respect to the vampire, Kaname seemed to find it amusing because he chuckled lightly. Zero just grumbled in annoyance, turning his head away from the scene.

“How many times do I have to tell you Yuki? Your formalities hurt me.” Kaname said playfully in a fake hurt voice. He patted Yuki on the head affectionately, causing Yuki's blood to rush to her cheeks, the color swelled until nearly half of her face was as red as a rose. He laughed again as he caressed the back of his hand across Yuki's burning cheek. “Do you have a fever?” He asked playfully. It annoyed Zero so much that he wanted nothing more than to shoot Kaname in his pretty little head with his Bloody Rose.

“I can't believe this! He gets enjoyment out of watching Yuki squirm!” Zero grumbled under his breath. Zero knew Kaname was doing what he was doing for either two reasons; Either he wanted to get a reaction out of Yuki, or he really did want Zero to take out his Bloody Rose. Knowing him, he probably wanted to do both.

As Zero wallowed in his thoughts, he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. It was Yori, Yuki's best friend.

“It's okay Zero, it's just a little crush! She'll get over it someday.” Yori reassured him. Zero just rolled his eyes as a response. He wondered if Yori knew exactly how dumb and irrational that statement sounded.

“Yea right. Look at her! When Kaname patted her on the head, she nearly died! And now... GAH! That's it! I'm going over there!” Zero growled as he stomped towards the two.

“Yea! You do that!” Yori encouraged, giving a quick wave goodbye to Zero. Then when Zero was out of hearing range she gave out an exhausted sigh. “That way, I can take a nap! Dealing with those two is a full time job!” Yori said under her breath.

Zero stopped without turning around and started to speak. “You know, you really shouldn't talk to yourself, it's unhealthy.” Zero called. Then he started walking towards Yuki again, leaving Yori to her now confused thoughts.

“Don't you have something to tell us, Kuran?” Zero gave Kaname a questioning look as he stepped in front of Yuki. Yuki looked up at Zero and smiled as if to say “Thank you.”

“Wow Zero, if looks could kill...” Kaname laughed as he finished his statement. Zero glared on at the pure blood. “Anyway, I'm sorry. I got a little sidetracked.” Kaname shot a teasing smile at Zero. Then a genuine one to Yuki. Zero just grumbled something under his breath as he turned towards the moon dorms.

“You're more of a leech than I am. Wouldn't you say, Zero?” Kaname called to Zero, who just continued walking to the moon dorms.

Damn him! He just HAD to bring that up didn't he? I hate that stupid leech!” Zero thought angrily in his head. He stomped off the the moon dorms, Yuki following him, while Kaname followed Yuki.

The other vampires had already gone into the moon dorms so Zero and Yuki didn't have to worry about the fangirls anymore, because once Kaname was out of sight, they would all walk back to the sun dorms. Then they would rest up for the next fun filled day of playing “torture the prefects.”

“So, what did you want to tell us Kaname-sama?” Yuki asked as she sat on the elegant beige couch in the front room. Zero sat next to her while Kaname sat on the similar styled beige chair opposite of them. The diamond studded chandelier swayed slightly above them.

“Well, I was in town the other day, and I went to the library to do some research on a new kind of blood tablet...” Kaname started, Yuki was interested, but Zero really didn't care either way.

“Why didn't you do research here, you have more vampire books in your library than the town library has I'm sure.” Zero remarked. Kaname laughed lightly, which Zero thought was very annoying.

“Well, I do my research on the computer, and our computers are out of order at the moment. So that left the library.” Kaname answered. Zero still wasn't convinced.

“All eight of them?” Zero questioned. Because if Zero thought something was just a bit off, he'd jump at the chance for answers, that's just how his parents raised him. It was a valuable trait of a vampire hunter.

“Well, it's quite a long story actually. It involves Aido not getting his way, and a lot of ice being thrown around.” Kaname said bitterly.

“That does sound like Aido. But one more thing, don't you think people would freak out if they saw a vampire website?” Zero asked. Kaname was now getting annoyed from answering stupid questions.

“The websites are in ancient Latin, about one in a thousand people could decipher it, and only one in ten-thousand people would be nosy enough to try and decipher it. And if worst comes to worst, I could always erase their memories. Now can I finish?” Kaname asked in an aggravated tone. Zero signaled for Kaname to continue. Yuki was just listening intently to the two.

“Anyway, I came across this website. It talked about a certain legend that caught my attention, ‘The Legend of the Mirror of Fate.’” Both Zero and Yuki were interested now. They leaned in closer to hear Kaname better.

“It's said to turn humans into vampires instantly, with no worry of turning into a level E...” Zero gave Kaname a weird look.

What does this have to do with me? Don't tell me he took away our sleeping time for THIS!” Zero thought angrily, waiting for Kaname to say something useful, which Zero didn't see happening soon. Yuki was listening like she was being told the meaning of life, as always when Kaname spoke.

“...But more importantly, it would turn you, Zero, into a full-fledged vampire without worrying about level-E.” Kaname smiled. Zero's eyes went wide. Yuki was so happy she squealed, jumping up happily from her seat. In her hyper fit, she nearly knocked over Zero, who was in shock.

“No way.” Zero said breathlessly. “If this is joke Kuran!” Zero growled. He was sure that if it was a joke he'd have to strangle Kaname. This could solve all of his problems and to taunt him like that would be enough to make Zero fall to level E! It seemed kind of like gray hairs, the more stressed Zero got, the harder it seemed to keep himself in check.

“It's no joke.” Kaname said solemnly. Zero still seemed skeptical though, because he was eying Kaname suspiciously. Yuki was getting ticked off with Zero's behavior. He was ruining the moment and he knew it!

“Zero! Could you be happy for once! If this doesn't make you smile then nothing will! Do I have to put you on depression medication?! Gah! Stop being a Mr.Emo!” Yuki screamed at Zero, shaking him senseless the whole time. Kaname was trying to hold back laughter at Zero's face as Yuki shook him.

“Mr.Emo? And shut up Yuki! Your acting like my big sister!” Zero scolded Yuki. He was happy, just... skeptical. He didn't want to be let down after believing something this big.

Kaname rose from his beige chair, he gazed out the window as a Robin fluttered by, landing on the edge of it.

“Leave him alone Yuki, let him be in denial.” Kaname said as he looked over to Yuki, still trying to make Zero smile, or at least to make him happy. He almost envied that kind of attention.

“I'm not in denial Kuran.” Zero said as he shot a cold glare at Kaname. Kaname returned the glare with a fiery glare of his own. Yuki sighed as she shook her head slowly at the two immature boys.

“That's it! If you two want to act like children, then GO AHEAD!” Yuki yelled as she stomped off towards the giant and elegant door. She was so annoyed that she didn't even take time to admire the creative markings that covered the door, as she normally does. The door closed with a loud, glass-shattering thump that shook the very foundation of the huge house. (A/N: Just like the stupid gang bangers who blast their music up so loud it shakes my house windows at for in the morning. Lol, okay, I'm done rambling. C8)

Zero and Kaname were left speechless. Never before had Yuki yelled at Kaname that way. They knew she was definitely mad. Zero's mouth twisted into a smirk as he looked at Kaname, who was now staring at the door with wide eyes. Zero had made a small victory that day, he finally got Yuki to yell at Kaname. Or not...

Just then they heard the door creak open slowly. They looked to see Yuki's head appear as she peeked around the wide door.

“I'm sorry Kaname, I didn't mean you, your being the mature one. Zero's being the real jerk!” Yuki glanced over to Zero to see him rolling his silver eyes. Then she quickly shot her attention back to Kaname, who was smiling amiably at Yuki. Yuki laughed nervously and the door creaked closed, but quicker than when she first opened it.

“Well... That was...interesting?” Zero said out of lack of better words. He tilted his head to the side slightly as he stated to walk over to the door.

Yuki was patrolling the grounds as usual, when a boy with short, black hair approached her. He had pale skin and bright purple eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. He smiled at Yuki and waved. Yuki tilted her head to the side in confusion but waved back to be polite.

“Are you a prefect?” He asked coolly. Yuki nodded slowly, still wondering why he was there. The boy seemed happy to hear that because his face brightened.

“Oh good! I'm the new student. Katsume Makoiya.” He held his hand out for Yuki to shake it. Yuki then understood what he was doing at Cross Academy so she happily shook his firm hand. Katsume smiled, showing his glistening white teeth... and two large fangs reaching much lower than most teeth should.

Yuki gasped but quickly regained her composure. She nodded quickly. “Night Class?” She asked questioningly. He found this amusing and laughed slightly.

“Yea.” Katsume scratched the back of his head as he smiled and closed his eyes. A gust of wind blew around them and Katsume froze. He opened his now wide eyes to reveal that they were turning a reddish color. He took a step back and turned around quickly. He ran as fast as he could to get away from the scent of Yuki's blood.

He brushed past trees and even got a small cut on his left arm to try to get away. He wanted to get as far away from Yuki as possible for two reasons. One: He didn't want to bite her. And two: He didn't want to make a bad impression on his first day.

In his rush. Katsume ran into a silver haired boy and nearly fell over, he looked up to see a scowling boy much taller than him.

“I'm sorry.” Katsume said sincerely. He was ready to run again but Zero grabbed his arm firmly.

“I'm Zero, a school prefect. Why were you running like that? And are you new?” Zero asked suspiciously. Katsume looked down sadly.

“I know what you're thinking. But I didn't bite anybody! I swear.” Katsume said, looking at Zero's stern face in desperation.

“Then why were you running like that?” Zero asked, Katsume tried to walk away but Zero stopped him once again. Katsume sighed in severe discomfort. He wanted to get as far away from that girl's scent as possible, but Zero wouldn't let him. The only solution was to tell the truth.

“Fine! There was this girl, another prefect, and-” Katsume started but was cut off.

“Yuki?! You bit Yuki?!” Zero said in disbelief as he started to run off. Katsume was the one to stop Zero now.

“No! I didn't bite her! I smelled her blood and I had to get away.” Katsume finally said desperately. Zero stopped and looked at him again. He soon realized that he didn't look like much of a threat. Katsume let go of Zero's arm. Zero nodded to him understandingly.

“At least you're not another Aido. Gah, I wish I had a dollar for every time he thought about Yuki's blood.” Zero rolled his eyes, as if the very thought of Aido annoyed him.

“Sounds pretty bad. So... are you... Yuki's...” Katsume started, but he stopped when Zero turned around and glared at Katsume. In turn, Katsume took a step back, careful to avoid Zero.

“I'm not her boyfriend!” He yelled at Katsume. He held up his hands.

“Sorry! Wow.” Was all Katsume said as he strode off to the school. Zero rolled his eyes as he went off to search for Yuki.
