CHAPTER 2-FOR TEN MONTHS!

"Im sorry Holden,I just thought it was someone else." I bet she forgot I was even coming.I bet she did.

"Like who?" was my reply.

"Like Ward." I wasnt even aware she was still seeing Stradlater.

"Would you like something to drink?"

"uh,yeah,coffee would be fine."

"okay."

s she walked into the kitchen my mind wouldnt stop wandering about and asking how long they have been together,why she still havent found a reason to drift the farthest from him.Then Jane came back.I was sitting in the couch and Jane was across the table sitting on a big chair.

"So,you and Stradlater have been going out together for what,about 5-6 months?"

"Its been ten months,actually."

Ten months! at this point,while I sipped on my coffee cup,my mind wandered off again.I started wondering if Stradlater still does that routine Id always see him do when I double-dated with him,I wonder if he used that routine on Jane and if he gave her the time in some backseat of some car,like with the other girls and if they been together for 10 months how many times did it happen.I was heavily starting to regret I didnt ask for something more alcoholized than coffee.

"Holden,you?e been quiet for some time."

"uh,yeah,I was just thinking."

"thinking? about what?"

"in checkers,do you still keep all your kings in the backrow?"

I finished drinking the coffee cup and then added:

"Can you bring me some whiskey,please?"

She stands up and goes to the mini-bar that is on the left side of the door.

"Im not sure of how to answer that Holden,its been some time since the last time I played checkers."

"I thought you and Stradlater--Ward played checkers all the time."

"No,we actually dont"

"Then what do you folks do?"

I really dont want to know the answer to that.Why did I even ask? Im starting to really regret the question.

"uhh,we--"

Before she could say something the door bell rings.Jane stares at me for some time before deciding to get the door.It was Stradlater.
