AN: Ok so I just HAD to throw my version of the 'unseen' telephone conversation at the end of last night's epi (so spoiler alert for last night's epi!)

This is short- and un beta'd. Sorry- I was too impatient to care.

And to my severly depressed annonymous GSRBFF coughKeegancough... It will all get better- now go write that hot sex! ;)

The 'Hi' Heard 'Round The World...

“Hi” Grissom breathed into the phone- relaxing for the first time in days.

Sara responded by smoothly turning her voice masculine… “Gil- its Conrad. I know you’re on your death bed with the flu but get your sick and tired ass back in and pull a triple.”

His chuckle burned deep through his lungs, but it was worth it when she reciprocated in a throaty giggle over the line.

“I think it’s safe to say Ecklie will lay off for a few days now. Although- if he ever retired, I think you could pass for a duplicate with that voice. How are you?” Grissom closed his eyes to imagine that she was there beside him on the sofa.

“I’m fine thanks- though I didn’t almost become bomb goop. Seriously Gilbert- what is it with you and bombs?”

“Well I am an attractive specimen- so I’ve been told.” He could imagine her smirk as she murmured slyly.

“Yes I can see where some might come to that conclusion. So are you really ok?”

“Yes- I told you- I’m fine. Warrick was closer to the blast zone than I- and he’s fine as well.”

“Good- good. Do uh- do you need me- to come back and take care of you- your cold? I mean- I could come for a few days, help out around the house?”

His eyes opened with this statement- his body adjusting up a little higher on the pillow.

“Sara- we’ve talked about this. God knows I miss the hell out of you. And I appreciate your offer and concern- but until you’re ready to stay home, I can’t have you come only to leave again. I think once was hard enough for us both- don’t you agree?” His voice wasn’t harsh- no malice came off, but she knew it was a reminder all the same.

Her sigh was plenty loud coming through his receiver.

“Gil- I- I know. Sorry. I just thought you needed me.”

“Sara- I always need you. And I have been- and am- one hundred percent behind you and the reasons for being out there. I also know that you need to finish what you started- and coming back here now- it isn’t going to help you or me. Get to the point where you want to come back for you- that’s all I want honey.”

She smiled through her tears, but he’ll never know it.

“Thank you Gil- I really just miss you despite knowing what I’ve got to do.”

“Babe- the feeling’s mutual.”

A short pause circulated over the lines- each in thought.

Sara broke the silence. “Well, I’ve got to go run some errands. Give Hank a belly rub for me?”

Grissom gave a half-snort. “Yeah- like he doesn’t get those every day. I hope to hear from you again soon?”

“I’ll call tomorrow to check on you again. But seriously Gil- if you do need help with something, I will come.”

“I know Sara. Thank you. Have a good evening honey.”

“You too- bye lover.” She put some Theraflu in the mail for him.

“Goodnight love”. He made sure Hank got his belly rub.

The End.
